SUPER SERIES INFORMATION
Tournament Overview:
Super Series are level-based singles tournaments that group
players by their ratings into 4 Compass Draws of 8 players in each division. A
total of 32 players are selected for each division. The intent is to put
players in a draw with similarly skilled opponents to maximize competitive
match opportunities, and the tournament is intended for advanced players.
Because players are selected and grouped based on ratings, which does not rate
players based on age, Super Series events are offered in the 18s and 14s
divisions, but not the 16s and 12s.
14-and-Under Players - Entries Permitted in Two
Divisions, But Will Be Selected for One Division:
The purpose of Super Series is to group players with
like-ratings. 14 and under players with ratings similar to older players might consider
entering the 18s division. A 14 year old that has a rating that makes the
player competitive with older players, but that isn’t certain the player will
be selected for the older division, might consider enter both the 14 and 18
divisions. This is permitted in a Super Series without prior approval of the
Tournament Committee. A player entered in
both divisions that is not accepted into the 18 division will be eligible for
selection into the 14 division. Before the draws are published, a player may be
moved from the 14 to 18 division.
Draw Size and Format; Match Format:
The draw is limited to 32 players in each division. Players
will be flighted into four 8-player compass draws in each division using
ratings. (See below under Selection Process for description of how ordering is
done.) If the draw is full each
participant will play 3 singles matches. All matches will be the best of 3
Tiebreak sets (unless it is shortened for the health and safety of the players).
Some players will have one match on Saturday and two on Sunday; some will have
two on Saturday and one on Sunday.
Selection Process:
The top 32 rated players with timely entries in each
division will be selected using the most recently available weekly average Universal
Tennis Ratings, except that if the player has a projected rating, the daily
rating will be used. In the event two or
more players have the same rating, a tie will be broken based on the players’
highest rankings on the most recently published Combined Sectional Final
Ranking Lists as follows:
• 18 Divisions. The
players’ highest rank on the 18 Division list will be used. If both players do
not appear on the 18 Division list, the 16 Division list will be used. If both
players do not appear on the 16 Division list, the 14 Division list will be
used. If both players do not appear on the 14 Division list, the 12 Division
list will be used.
• 14 Divisions. The
players’ highest rank on the 14 Division list will be used. If both players do not
appear on the 14 Division list, the 12 Division list will be used.
Seeding:
The Computerized List Method of seeding will be used.
Seeding shall be determined using the most recently available Universal Tennis
Ratings. Ties in ratings will be broken using the same procedure described
under the selection process.
