COVID-19 impacts Akron Open Championships -now the Akron Open
Series 2020 events
Safe protocol changes this years Akron Open Championships. With the
popularity of this Akron Event we could not cancel it. However, we
are changing it to react to our COVID-19 environment. So now we
have an Akron Open Series 2020. We will celebrate this
tournament tradition in a new way. We will have a series of limited
participant events that will be held on certain days and times
starting July 12 to July 26th. Each event will be open to a certain
level and limited to 8 players/teams per bracket. Each bracket will
play at a set time and will play to completion. This will allow for
less travel back and forth, no waiting and with less groups of
people. All play will consist of compass draw if we get 8
players/team. If we do not get the 8 players/teams we will do an
alternate format. Play will be continuous for the players. There
will be no player swag bag this year. Payers/team will be randomly
selected to fill the spots. Towpath will have the right to cancels
the event based on current conditions. Spectators are not
allowed.
Women's Draw will be from 4pm-8pm
Men's Draw will be from 6pm-10pm
Player Selection TypePlayers are selected manually by the tournament director after the close of registration.
Entry TypeEntry to this tournament is open to all USTA members. Entries must be submitted by Sunday, July 19, 2020 11:59:00 PM Eastern Time. Only USTA members can register online if available.
