Tournament Update -- Friday 2pm
Parents/Players/Coaches of WG NTRP,
The tournament committee has met to discuss the very real
chance of us not being able to play on Sunday, due to the rainy forecast Sat
night/Sun morning. Accordingly, the committee has decided to complete the tournament on Saturday, utilizing the
4-game Short Set format (authorized by the ITF/USTA) for both the singles and
doubles
4-game Short Set scoring system: first player/team to
win 4 games by a margin of 2 games is the winner. Scores such as 4-2, 5-3 are
acceptable. Should both players/teams win 4 games apiece, a 7-point Tiebreak
will be played without any interruption in play. In this case, the final score
will be 5-4, as the tiebreak counts as 1 game.
Even though we will be playing short sets, the winner is awarded
full ranking points for the match, just as if they had played a best of 3 or
best of 5 tiebreak sets.
The draws are being updated and will be posted by 5pm. Please remember to check both your singles and doubles draws! Singles will play first and the doubles will not start until the afternoon. Thank you for your patience, we look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Thursday 2:30pm Update
We are watching the weather and it's beginning to look like playing Sunday could be problematic. It's supposed to rain Sat eve and continue overnight. Saturday looks good, so we might cancel doubles and just play 3 rounds of singles on Saturday utilizing modified scoring. At any rate, we'll continue to monitor the weather and the tournament committee will meet Friday afternoon and announce their decision. We'll post all times by 5pm Friday afternoon, so please check this site tomorrow and before heading out on Saturday! Thank you for your patience and understanding.
|
Draws are posted for Saturday Only -- pls read below Directory posted below & Weather watch!
Thank you for playing the WG Jr. NTRP. The tourney is sanctioned
for this weekend only. We will be using 2 sites: Willow Glen HS and Westmont HS
(click link below for directions). The current forecast is calling for rain developing
Saturday night and continuing thru Sunday. We will be monitoring the forecast
and it is quite possible we may have to change the format on Friday. For
example, we could drop the doubles event and/or shorten the scoring format. These
decisions will be made by the tournament committee not before Friday afternoon.
Should changes be made, please check here for the latest updates. We will likely
also send out an em, but keep in mind, Tennislink’s address book is not always
accurate; but you should always check the website for the latest info,
especially before heading out.
Please check the directory below for your name, note your
flight and check your schedule for starting times. Only Saturday times are
listed and Sunday times will not be posted until after the tournament committee
makes a decision about Sunday play (as changes will likely be made). All Round 3 and some Round 2 matches are not posted, they are currently scheduled for Sunday (weather permitting). Our goal
is to finish the tourney, but our secondary goal is to finish the singles draw –
even if we have to do this on Saturday..
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
Remember to always check the website for the latest updates.

Thank you for your interest in the Willow Glen Jr. NTRP Round-Robin. The tournament will be held at the Willow Glen HS and possibly other local venues
This is a ratings-based, non-elimination tournament that utilizes the Junior NTRP rating system (everyone who has participated in a USTA event has a rating). Players are placed into 4-player groups with similar NTRP ratings, regardless of the players’
ages. This is why there is only one division - the 18's.
Players are scheduled to play 3 singles matches and one doubles match over the weekend. Playing doubles is MANDATORY - we will assign you a partner from within your group. Top finisher within each flight will receive a medal. Medalist is determined based on Singles results only!
This is a very popular format as it offers the potential for a lot of great tennis packed into 2 days. The format is exactly the same as the popular UTR Round-Robin tournament, except it is designated as a Challenger event and offers Challenger-level points. All regular UTR players are welcome to participate in this tournament and all levels are welcome. Please register for singles and doubles, a doubles partner will be assigned by the Referee! This tourney is appropriate for the novice thru advanced players as your flight will only consist of other players near your rating!
