USTA STATEMENT ON WINTER NATIONALS CANCELLATION
Due to the ongoing situation surrounding COVID-19, the USTA has canceled the USTA Winter National Championships, scheduled to take place December 28, 2020 – January 3, 2021 in Arizona and Florida. The decision to cancel was made based upon the guiding principle of ensuring the health and safety of all those involved with the event and with the support of the USTA Medical Advisory Group. In addition, recent CDC recommendations to limit interstate travel as well as the logistical challenges with differing quarantine and health regulations across states and regions were taken into consideration.

Notes
IMPORTANT! PLAYER CONTACT INFO!
Due to a new policy
from the USTA's legal department, tournament directors will no
longer have access to phone numbers and email addresses of the
tournament participants unless the player re-enters their best
contact information at time of event registration. This means that
if a player does not enter their phone and email information each
time they register for a tournament, the tournament director cannot
contact them for any reason, including withdrawals, defaults, byes,
rain delays, etc. Your cooperation will ensure that tournaments can
continue to communicate necessary information to you. Thank
you.

2) WILD CARDS:
Wild Cards are granted for the USTA
National Championships by the USTA Wild Card Committee.
**Eligibility**: Applications for Wild Cards will be considered in
extreme cases where extenuating circumstances have made the normal
procedure of qualification and endorsement impossible. Wild Cards
also may be granted based on the recommendation of the USTA
National Coaching Staff that a player has demonstrated significant
potential at the national and international level. No player that
is under suspension by the USTA may be awarded a wild card. No
player who has a national stating below the standing of the first
alternate may be awarded a wild card unless, in the opinion of the
wild card committee, the player will improve the overall strength
of field of the tournament.
**Applications**: Request for Wild Cards are submitted by players
using an online application. A link to the application is posted on
the USTA website and shall be posted by the tournament to its
website:
http://www.playerdevelopment.usta.com/PlayerDevelopmentWildCards/
Wild Card applicants do not require Sectional Endorsement, but the
application must be approved by the Sectional office. Note:
Applications MUST be filed separately for each National
Championship and received by the appropriate deadline (See
below).
**Deadlines**: Applications must be received no later than five
days after the entry deadline for which the Wild Card is sought.
Earlier application is strongly encouraged.
**Awarding of Wild Cards***: The Wild Card Committee will meet as
soon as is practicable after the entry deadline to select from
among the Wild Card applicants. The USTA Junior and Collegiate
Competition Department will coordinate distribution of applications
and the meeting time. As soon as Wild Card players are selected,
they are notified by the USTA Junior and Collegiate Competition
Department. The Tournament Director should also attempt to make
contact with the player to receive the entry fee and any additional
information that is required.
If you have any questions about Wild Cards please email
jrcomp@usta.com
Wild Card recipients should be notified by TBD.
3) ENTERING MULTIPLE DIVISIONS:
A player may be entered in up to two age divisions of USTA National
Championships when entries close. The TennisLink system will select
players for these divisions in the following order: 18s, 16s, 14s,
and 12s. If a player is entered in two age divisions and is
selected into the older division, that player shall not be eligible
for selection into the younger division. If a player is not
selected for the older division, that player is eligible for
selection in the younger division and is eligible to be an
alternate in the younger division, but not the older
division.
Additionally, a player may not enter one division in singles and a
different division in doubles at sites where two divisions are
held.
Contact the Director of Junior Competition IMMEDIATELY if it is
discovered that a player is entered, at the time entries close, in
two concurrent USTA National Championships. Players who are found
to be entered in two concurrent National Championships will not be
accepted into either USTA National Championship and must be levied
Suspension Points.
4) SECTIONAL ENDORSEMENTS:
Make sure that your junior
player is on your section's endorsement list for this tournament.
To find out if your player is on the list, please contact your USTA
Junior Competition Manager for your section.
5) DOUBLES INFORMATION:
1. All players entered into
singles will automatically be entered into doubles as well. If you
WOULD NOT like to play doubles, you need to email the tournament
director to withdraw from doubles at
enrique@reffkintenniscenter.com
2. The deadline to specify a specific partner is TBD. If you do not
specify a partner or withdraw from doubles by TBD, you will be
randomly assigned a partner.
3. To register with your doubles partner, you need to email the
tournament director your child's name and USTA number along with
the name and USTA number of their partner. You must CC: (copy) your
doubles partner when you email the tournament director with the
pairing.
Special note: If any of the 128 singles players withdraw from
doubles only, then we will fill the doubles draw based on the
ordered singles alternates list. If we do have a doubles spot, we
will email you an online invoice. In order to confirm you want a
doubles only spot, that invoice will need to be paid within 24
hours. Accepting a doubles only spot will not change your position
on the ordered singles alternates list. If you are asked to fill in
for doubles, you will be randomly assigned a partner.
6) DRAW AND MATCH FORMATS:

14s

minutes prior to their scheduled match time.
8) TOURNAMENT SELECTION PROCEDURES &
ALTERNATES
Selection should be completed by
TBD
9) LATE ENTRIES POLICY
Late entries are not accepted
into the tournament. Their only option is to apply for a Wild Card
(which must be done within 5 days after the deadline).
10) WITHDRAWAL/ENTRY FEE REFUND POLICY FOR USTA JUNIOR NATIONAL
CHAMPIONSHIPS
AFTER ENTRY DEADLINE:
Immediately contact the tournament
to withdraw from the tournament. All withdrawals must be emailed so
documentation is in writing. Email player withdrawals
enrique@reffkintenniscenter.com. Players must also fulfill the
written verification requirements described below if the withdrawal
is for injury, illness, or personal circumstance and the player
wants to avoid being levied USTA Suspension Points.
Withdrawal After the Entry Deadline:
Players who withdraw after the entry deadline for any reason are
NOT entitled to a refund.
The required written verification of an injury or illness must be
from a medical professional and can be emailed to
enrique@reffkintenniscenter.com
Players that suffer from an illness or injury during the tournament
may obtain written verification from one of our certified athletic
trainers that will be at the El Conquistador Resort and Reffkin
Tennis Center. It is the player's responsibility to obtain this
written verification and deliver it to the tournament director at
the time of withdrawal.
All withdrawals for any reason without the proper written
notification are recorded as defaults and a code of conduct report
will be completed for any player who fails to submit written
verification/medical verification to the tournament director by
January 3rd, 2020, 9PM.
If the player is withdrawing because of a personal emergency, the
player must deliver a written explanation of the situation in
detail to the tournament director, and the referee will determine
whether the situation will be categorized as a personal
emergency.
For more information about withdrawals, click the link below:
https://www.usta.com/content/dam/usta/pdfs/Junior
Competition_Withdrawals and Entry Fee Refunds.pdf
11) HOW ALTERNATES LIST IS ORDERED:
The Tournament
Committee shall prepare an alternate list of those players with
timely entries not accepted into the draw who appear on the
Sectional Endorsement Lists and who are doubles finalists from the
four preceding USTA National Opens. Alternates shall be ordered
using the National Standings List used to accept players into the
draw to fill remaining vacancies. Late entrants who are eligible
for selection shall be listed below these players by the date and
time on which the late entry is made. If multiple late entries are
received at the same time, they shall be ordered by lot. Late
entrants are not ordered by position on the National Standings
List.
12) HOW ALTERNATES GET INTO THE DRAW:
The ordered
alternates list at the top of the website I updated immediately if
we do have a withdrawal. There is no need to call or email and ask
if there have been any withdrawals.
Before the draw is made, withdrawal of a player that was accepted
as part of a section's quota will be replaced with the next
available player on that section's endorsement list. Withdrawal of
a player who was not accepted as part of a section's quota will be
replaced with the next highest remaining alternate. After the draw
is made, withdrawing players will be replaced with the next highest
remaining alternate.
13) ON-SITE ALTERNATES:
Only those players that have
gone through the registration process and appear on the alternate
list will be considered for on-site alternate substitution. On-site
alternates will be considered in the ranking order that they appear
on the alternate list. Any alternate player wishing to be an
on-site alternate must check in with the tournament desk at the
appropriate location listed below, ready to play, between TBD. At
TBD they are considered late. Alternates checking in after the
first round has commenced will be placed at the bottom of the
on-site alternate list, regardless of ranking. If any player shows
up at or after TBD they will be on the bottom of the list
regardless of what number they were on the ordered alternates
list.
On-site alternates should report to the following sits below
between TBD at the tournament desk on December 28th:
Subject to change:
Girls' 12s - Reffkin Tennis Center
"REFFK" and Tucson Country Club "TCC"
Boys' 12s - Reffkin Tennis Center "REFFK" and University of Arizona
"UA"
Boys' 14s - Tucson Racquet Club "TRC"
Girls' 14s - El Conquistador Resort "ECRES" / Oro Valley Community
Center "OVCC"
(addresses listed in the "18" tournament sites section.)
Checking with the tournament desk staff person at the appropriate
age division check-in site above between TBD on December 28th
automatically checks in alternates as an "on-site alternate" for
singles and for doubles.
SPECIAL NOTE:
The highest alternate on the ordered alternates list posted on the
tennislink website that checks in on time on 12/28 to the
tournament desk staff at the correct site will be the first player
admitted into the draw if there any players that withdraw at the
last minute from the tournament. HOWEVER, if there is a player in
the tournament that cannot play their first match but believes they
can play their second in consolation we will NOT replace that
player with an onsite alternate. Since the spot in the tournament
is theirs, they can choose to not play their first match because of
some personal circumstance and then try to play their next match in
consolation.
14) CHECK-IN:
All players must check-in on December
27th at any time between TBD at TBD.
If you absolutely cannot attend check-in, go to the link below,
provide us with the reason you are not attending, and fill out the
other information requested. This form needs to be submitted by
