COVID Related Policies - PLEASE READ!!!!
Out of an abundance of caution,
the following policies are effective for tournaments at Star Island during the
Covid situation for the safety of our players and staff, and in order to
minimize our impact on the resort:
1) Osceola County currently
has a facemask ordinance. Players do not need to wear them during play but
should have them with. Non-players should be wearing them on property unless
you are seated in an area that you can comfortably social distance.
2) Star Island Resort is open and families are welcome and encouraged to book a room and make a Stay-cation
of the weekend! Discount room rates are available using the code USTA.
3) NO SPECTATORS, no pets! Players are allowed 1 parent, guardian, or coach per family. Unless you have a room
booked at Star Island on Friday or Saturday night, please NO spectators, siblings, or
additional family members or friends on property during the tournament. Please show up no more than 15
minutes prior to each match and leave upon completion of play. Star Island is a pet-free resort, please do not bring any pets on property unless they are a service animal wearing their vest.
4) All resort amenities are
closed to tennis players and their families including the pool area. The playground is completely closed to all resort guests and tennis guests. Please make sure all players know this before they arrive, we know it is normally a favorite area for players and siblings. Unless
you are a resort guest, please only enter the pool area to use the restrooms or
for purchasing items from the mini-mart.
5) Bring your own seating
for players and parents. We are encouraging each player to bring a portable chair
to the courts with them so they can avoid having to use shared benches.
6) Balls – each player will
be given their own set of tennis ball to use during their service games for all
of their matches. During return games the players should place their tennis
balls on their chair or in their bag to avoid other players handling them. Please
use your racquet or foot to return balls to your opponent or ones that come
from other courts. During tie-breaks each player should keep 2 of their balls with them, leave the 3rd ball on your seat.
During warm up please use just one set of balls to avoid confusion. During serving warm up, one player should hit approx 2 minutes worth of serves that your opponent returns, then the second player should get their balls to warm up their serve. Please don't use the traditional serving warm up of catching the balls and alternate serves.
7) Scoring devices will be given to one player in each match, determined by a coin flip or volunteer. That player will hang the scoring device on the net and will be responsible for keeping score the entire match. The opponent will not touch it at any time. Upon completion of the match the scorer will return the scoring device to the tournament desk so it can be sanitized before it is used again. 10 and Under players will each have their own scoring device.
8) No hand shaking, racquet
tapping, or foot tapping before or after matches. Please show your opponent your
respect by giving them a wave from across the court and congratulating them on a
good match, win or lose. Please maintain proper social distancing during side changes.
9) We will have hand sanitizer on-site but please have players keep their own hand sanitizer with them in case the need arises.
10) Parents – please don’t
gather in groups near the tournament desk or courts, and make sure the kids do
the same.
We understand many of these rules may feel invasive and are somewhat exclusionary
toward parents or families that are used to spectating and attending tournaments,
but our goal is to provide the safest possible environment we can for everyone
involved while still allowing the kids to have some fun and enjoy themselves on
court.
Thank you for understanding
and follow these rules, and we welcome you back to USTA tournaments at Star Island!!
