COVID Related Policies - PLEASE READ!!!!
Out of an abundance of caution, for the safety of our players and staff, and in order to minimize our impact on the resort, the following policies are effective for tournaments at Star Island during the Covid situation:
1) Osceola County currently has a facemask ordinance. Players do not need to wear them during play but should have them with. Non-players should be wearing them on property unless you are seated in an area that you can comfortably social distance.
2) Star Island Resort is open and families are welcome and encouraged to book a room and make a Stay-cation of the weekend! Discount room rates are available using the code USTA.
3) NO SPECTATORS, no pets! Players are allowed 1 parent, guardian, or coach per family. Unless you have a room booked at Star Island on Friday or Saturday night, please NO additional spectators, siblings, family members or friends on property during the tournament. Please show up no more than 15 minutes prior to each match and leave upon completion of play. Star Island is a pet-free resort, please do not bring any pets on property unless they are a service animal wearing their vest.
4) All resort amenities are closed to tennis players and their families including the pool area. The playground is completely closed to all resort guests and tennis guests. Please make sure all players know this before they arrive, we know it is normally a favorite area for players and siblings. Unless you are a resort guest, please only enter the pool area to use the restrooms or for purchasing items from the mini-mart.
5) Bring your own seating for players and parents. We are encouraging each player to bring a portable chair to the courts with them so they can avoid having to use shared benches.
6) Balls and scoring device– each player will be given their own ball tray/scoring device and a set of tennis ball to use during their service games for all of their matches. During return games the players should place their tennis balls on their tray to avoid other players handling them. Please use your racquet or foot to return balls to your opponent or ones that come from other courts.
7) No hand shaking, racquet tapping, or foot tapping before or after matches. Please show your opponent your respect by giving them a wave from across the court and congratulating them on a good match, win or lose. Please maintain proper social distancing during side changes.
8) We have hand sanitizer on-site but please have players keep their own hand sanitizer with them in case the need arises.
9) Parents – we love you, BUT, our issues maintaining social distancing during our recent events has not involved the kids!! Please don’t gather in groups near the tournament desk or courts to socialize with each other or our staff, and make sure the kids do the same. Help us keep our events safe and running by following the rules. Thank you!
We understand many of these rules may feel invasive and are somewhat exclusionary toward parents or families that are used to spectating and attending tournaments, but our goal is to provide the safest possible environment we can for everyone involved while still allowing the kids to have some fun and enjoy themselves on court.
Thank you for understanding and follow these rules, and we welcome you back to USTA tournaments at Star Island!!

Parents and Coaches Rules!!
This is a quick reminder to the parents and coaches - Level 8 tournaments are entry level events... the kids will make bad line calls (usually not on purpose!), they will lose track of the score, serve from the wrong side, foot fault, and make just about every error you can think of. We all tend to live a little vicariously through our kids, but please let them work thru it on their own!! These tournaments are non-elimination events that don't earn ranking points and are designed to get them used to match play and prepare them to play in higher level events. The 8 and Under players will have a court monitor on each court, the other divisions will have 1 monitor per 3 courts. Tennis is an individual sport, parents and coaches are not allowed to be inside the fence, talk to the players (other than cheering), or take part in the match in any way other than as a spectator. Thank you!
