Saturday 7:30 p.m. Update:
If you have not had an opportunity to review the draws that were posted earlier today, please do so now and text me with any questions. Note - in the consolation draws for Mother/Daughter Doubles and Father/Son doubles, after we see how singles matches are going and which players make it to late rounds, we may be able to move up the consolation draw times. They are scheduled now assuming certain players make it to finals and/or consolation finals in their respective singles draws. Will update draw and let players know if match times are changing.

Saturday 12:15 p.m. Weather Update:
Good news and bad news, the GOOD news is that tomorrow's forecast looks beautiful and utilizing all courts and some format modifications, we should be able to get everything in and everyone headed home by mid to late afternoon tomorrow. Currently it is still raining, forecast looks dismal and conditions to get courts dry even when it does stop are not good. We do not want to keep everyone tied up all day, so we are calling it for today. IF by chance we are able to get some dry courts this evening, I will send out a message for those that are staying at the resort or close to see if we can knock any matches out. But make your plans like we will not get any matches in today. 1) If you are NOT able to play tomorrow and need to withdraw, please send me at text to (210) 999-0692. Even those of you that previously told me you were not going to be able to play Sunday, please message me again. If you fail to send text to withdraw and we still have you in the draw for tomorrow and you do not show for your match, you will receive a default no-show and the loss of points associated with the default no-show. 2) By around 4:00 pm today, maybe sooner, I will have the new draws posted. But if you were scheduled today anytime before noon, you can already know you will have an 8:00 or 9:00 am match. 3) We will play the 10 & Under division tomorrow starting @ 8:00 a.m. 4) Tentatively, my plan is to play the singles Sunday morning and parent-child doubles from around noon - 4:00. There may be some overlap, but that is the general plan. 5) We will NOT play the junior mixed doubles - those entry fees will be refunded. 6) Tentative format changes: Singles and parent-child doubles main draw will play regular 2 out of 3 sets NO-Ad scoring; all consolation will play 8 game pro-set AD scoring. 7) We will not be able to guarantee play on clay courts as we will utilize all courts as they become available.

Saturday 10:00 a.m. Weather Update:
It is currently raining at the Resort and radar shows that we will probably have rain for several hours. We will post again at 12:00 noon. All other information in previous post still stands.
|
Saturday 7:30 a.m. Weather Update:
We have heavy mist that has arrived ahead of the system, we are going to go ahead and suspend play as the radar shows the cell moving directly for us. Next update will be at 10:00 a.m. or of conditions change. When play DOES resume, all matches scheduled from 8:00 a.m. thru 10:45 a.m. will go on as we will have access to all courts for use. I will give a minimum of an 1 1/2 hour notice to allow time for travel. At this time, we are not throwing in the towel for the day. We hope we will be able to resume play and get as many scheduled matches in today as possible by using ALL courts and modified format. Withdrawals or questions: Text Diane @ (210) 999-0692

Saturday 6:00 a.m. Weather Update:
Conditions are currently dry. Radar shows we might get lucky and system miss us. I will post next update when conditions change OR 8:00 a.m., whichever comes first.

Friday 6:00 p.m. Tournament & Weather Update:
We are having a great day here in Horseshoe Bay - we had just a little rain earlier in the day, but we were able to start on time and have had a fun and dry day of tennis.
Currently, the forecast looks sketchy for tomorrow. I will post my first update at 6:15 am. - we have to wait and react to actual weather and conditions and not forecasts. I may not know a lot at that time, but I will at least let those scheduled at 8:00 a.m. matches know if they need to be heading this way. If we do run into some weather delays, we will utilize all courts and possibly shorten formats in an attempt to catch up and hopefully get all (or most) of the scheduled matches in tomorrow.
Anyone with questions or needing to withdraw, please text Diane @ (210) 999-0692.

Friday 8:30 AM Update:
Looks like today's showers may be done around 1:00 pm and hopefully we should be able to start today on time (or close to). Depending on how much rain we get, the clay courts may be too wet to play on - we will just have to play by ear. We will have the hard courts available if we are unable to use clay. Please keep checking the draws as we have had several withdrawals. I "try" to contact to let you know, but it is your responsibility to keep checking. If we do have a rain delay today, I will post again around 1:00 pm. If there is no post by 1:30, plan on arriving and being ready at your scheduled match time today. We will take each day as it comes regarding weather. If you have not registered for virtual check-in, please do that now by texting me the player name to (210) 999-0692. I do NOT need any other information - just player(s) names. Separate email is being sent out with site map. If you are NOT familiar with the property, especially the Whitewater courts, please make sure to arrive early and locate the various court areas. You dads, feel free to throw your blower in your trunk - more blowing power always comes in handy when we are trying to get the hard courts dry - I think we are going to need for tomorrow. Questions or withdrawals - text Diane @ (210) 999-0692.

VIRTUAL CHECK-IN AND SAFETY PROCEDURES:
Updated 11/25/2020
Horseshoe Bay Jr. & Family Red Clay Open
– November 27-29, 2020
Virtual Check-in and Tournament Safety
Procedures
The following are the safety protocols we have set in place
for the HSB Jr. Red Clay Open, Nov 27-29. The safety of our players, spectators
and tournament staff is our highest priority.
While we want everyone to have a great tennis weekend, we must adjust and
adhere to these guidelines in hopes that our efforts will result in both player/spectator
safety and the continuation of USTA tournaments in Texas. The following safety measures follow the
State, Local and Resort rules and regulations currently in place due to the
COVID Pandemic.
PLAYER REGISTRATION FOR VIRTUAL CHECK-IN:
· If you have not already done so, ASAP text
the tournament director, Diane Curry Asper @ (210) 999-0692, the player’s name
FROM THE PHONE YOU WILL BE USING FOR CHECK-IN THIS WEEKEND. Families with multiple players please use a
separate phone when possible for each player, unless only playing doubles
together. If you have registered for a
virtual check-in at one of our previous tournaments, you do NOT need to
re-register.
VIRTUAL CHECK-IN AND SCORE REPORTING:
·
Players will
check-in for their matches and report their scores via text to this number
(210) 999-0692.
·
By setting up
this "virtual check-in", we hope to prevent players from congregating
near the tournament desk. We ask that
players wait for their match to be called in their car, resort room, or within
the resort grounds using the social distancing and congregating rules stated
below.
·
Please plan
to arrive at the Horseshoe Bay Resort 15 to 30 min prior to your scheduled
match time. If it is your first time at
the resort, please arrive 30 minutes early for your first match so you can
navigate the resort parking and become familiar with ALL court locations. Penalties for lateness to court will be
assessed.
·
Please DO NOT
CHECK-IN UNTIL 15 MIN PRIOR TO YOUR SCHEDULED MATCH TIME. Due to the scheduling of the tournament to
maintain a limited number of players/spectators onsite at any given time, we
will not be trying to put on early matches so arriving/checking-in only 15 min
prior to match is suggested. When you arrive, please text the tournament
director that you have arrived. Most of the time we hope to text immediately
back the court number for you to report to, so please be ready. A sample text should read:
o
Joe
Tenniswinkle 10:15 here - We only need player name & scheduled
match time.
· When both players have virtually checked-in
and a court is available, the tournament director will text both players
and advise which court for the players to report to. A sample text could read:
o Tenniswinkle and Smith report to
Court # 3
· A site map of the HSB Resort is being sent to
everyone via separate email. Here is a
summary of the courts and where they are located. Please use map and go along as you read
below:
o Courts are broken down into 4 separate
locations – 2 groups of clay courts and 2 groups of hard;
o 2 WhiteWater clay courts # 1 & 2 are
located above the #11 on site map – just past the 360 Grill and putt-putt;
o 4 Main clay courts # 9, 10, 11 & 12 are
located to the right of the #8 Palm Pavilion (big white tent);
o 4 lower hard courts, # 3, 4, 5 & 6 are
located above the #9 Water Gardens on map; courts are actually blue not brown as shown on map.
o 4 hard courts, # 15, 16, 17 &18 are
located to the right of # 14 Palm Villas;
o There will be no warm-up courts available on
site nor any available prior to the first morning match starts as courts will
be sanitized for the start of the first matches of the day.
· Following the text from TD to report to court,
players will have 5 min to report to court and be ready to start their 5
MINUTE warm-up (WhiteWater clay courts 1 & 2 will have 10 min to
report). Bathroom runs and making sure players have adequate water for match
should be done PRIOR to the virtual check-in 15 min prior to match time.
Due to safety regulations, there will be
no water on court or in pro-shop area to refill water bottles, so please bring
plenty of back-up water. Ice
machines are located at the ends of Palm Villa buildings # 5 and #6.
· Please text TD if
your opponent does not promptly arrive so we can help locate. A late penalty may be assessed if player has not arrived to
court within 5 min of text from tournament director (ten minutes for players at
Whitewater).
·
Baskets with
new cans of balls will be on court when the players arrive. Please limit
warm-up to 5 minutes. There will be
extra cans of balls on court to utilize if balls are lost for new balls and
please use used balls in baskets if the match is already underway.
·
Players will
tap rackets, “air” high five or “air” fist bump in lieu of the traditional
handshake.
·
As soon as the
match is finished, IMMEDIATELY text winner’s name and score to the tournament
director @ 210-999-0692, then leave balls in the or hopper of used balls on court and exit the
resort property. Please allow 10 minutes
for scores to be posted and next match times can then be viewed online. Please text score to TD PRIOR to
leaving court so the court can turn over as quickly as possible.
·
Players can
bring their own chair to utilize on court.
If you choose to use the player benches or chairs provided, supplies to
sanitize the player bench will be in the baskets below the player bench. Please be sure to sanitize your seating area
prior to and after use.
·
If players
have questions, please text Diane @ (210) 999-0692. There will be no official tournament desk
available. Awards will be distributed
adjacent to Court number ten near the Palm Villas following the division finals.
·
In an attempt
to limit resort personnel in the tournament area, the clay courts may not be
swept between every match – they will be swept periodically – just not between
every match.
·
Our
tournament referee, Molly Waldrop, will be roving the courts throughout the
day. Should players need an official,
please text the tournament director @ (210) 999-0692 and she will notify
official
SPECTATORS:
· We ask that each player limit the number of
spectators they bring to 1 OR 2 per player if possible. This will help limit
the number of people at the resort tennis areas at one time and help allow for
appropriate social distancing.
MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING IN COMMON AREAS:
·
All players,
spectators and tournament staff are required to wear masks at ALL TIMES (except
during play) while on the resort property.
This is the rule of the resort.
Players may only remove their masks once they go on court to play. We ask that everyone also observe the 6’
social distancing regulations and limiting the number of people congregating to
no more than 10 people gathered in one area.
Tournament staff may ask groups to distance if needed.
·
Spectators
are encouraged to bring their own chairs to watch match. This will allow spectators to socially
distance from other spectators.
·
Spectators
are not allowed to remove chairs from the Palm Villas pool area OR from any of
the patios/seating areas of the Palm Villa guest suites.
MATCH FORMAT and SURFACES:
· All Singles and Doubles divisions:
o Open Divisions and all Doubles: 2 out of 3 sets with 10 pt. tie break in lieu
of 3rd set with regular ad scoring;
o Non-Qualified Divisions: 2 out of 3 sets with 10 pt. tie break in lieu
of 3rd set – no ad scoring;
o Match format may be changed due to heat/rain/other
delays.
· It is our goal to play as many matches as
possible on clay. Currently the tournament is scheduled to allow
all main draw matches to play on Clay for Open and Qualified singles divisions,
and all doubles. All consolations rounds
will be played on hard court as well as most non-qualified singles divisions. One
round of round robin play MAY be played on hard court.
POTENTIAL DELAYS:
Currently there is
a high chance of rain on Friday and Saturday.
Delays will be sent out via Tournament Communications Center message via
email and text. Please check those
messages and/or the tournament page for updates.
UPON REQUEST:
Separate match tennis
balls will be available upon player request.
Please message tournament director prior to start of tournament. We will provide 6 new tennis balls per match
– 2 cans with different #’s. Each player will be assigned their ball # for
their service games. This will help to limit and possibly avoid any touching of
the opponent's tennis balls. While there are no direct medical concerns, this
has been brought up as a personal concern by some players and we will always
make the best decisions for players' safety, comfort and peace of mind
