Format
Attention all players!!! This is a 2 weekend but most matches will be held over the first weekend unless we have large draws or weather. The tournament format for challenger players is fmlc, first match loser consolation for singles and single elimination for doubles. All challenger singles players will be scheduled for 2 singles matches at least if the numbers work out, The challenger level is 2 out of 3 with a 10 point tie break and an 8 game pro set for doubles. First Match loser consolation will be an 8 game pro set. Regular scoring will be used for all divisions. Please check the draws online if you lose your first match. The front desk will give you a best case scenario time for your match and will try to be updating the draws in real time. As it goes with consolation, sometimes in the second round when a seed loses a match then a consolation match may be scheduled if it was the seeds first loss. If the seed wins then the consolation match will not occur if it his opponents second match. Consolation can be confusing at a 2 day event. Please only go by what the draws say and you cannot go wrong! Players are responsible for their start times. If a front desk person tells you what time your consolation match is then please check the draws as players are ultimately responsible for their start times. Again, please click on the consolation bracket draw before you head to your match to double check what time you play!!!! As I said, we will be trying to update the draws in real time so please check the draws twice before you come to your consolation match. Good luck and have great tournament!!!
Please sign up for doubles with a partner before the deadline. You must have your partners usta # to sign up. This # can be found on the norcalusta website. Your partner must also sign up with you or you will not be put into the draw! The tournament will not move you up a division or age category in doubles if there are not enough entrants. Please email me one week before the deadline if you would like to be placed on a looking for a partner list.

Scheduling
Hi, This is a 2 weekend tournament. We will play all matches on the first weekend unless we have large draws or weather. All players will be accepted and no draws will be limited most likely. You may play anytime from 8am to 8p for start times depending on your age group. Usually we start matches at about 8a and finish putting on matches at 8p on Saturday and 6p on Sunday. No avoidance requests will be accepted. Younger age groups will be played earlier than older age groups in general.
|
If you were not accepted for doubles
Hi, if you did not sign up with your partner and your partner did not sign up with you in the same age and division as your singles, then you were not put in the doubles draws. Hope you understand.

How to find your start time
The following instructions are to be used after the posting of the draws on Wednesday morning * Remember that the 'Challenger' events are now called 'Entry Level' events.
YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE AN EMAIL WITH YOUR MATCH TIME AND LOCATION SO PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW.
On the right of the 'Important Information' button there is a new 'draws' button. Click on it and select the event that a player is registered to. Know that some draws (e.g. "B12s - Challenger", "B14s - Open", ...) are quite large so the system divides them in two, so a symbol (with a picture of a draw on it) allows you to select the top or bottom half of the draw and you could be on the second part of the draw. On the left of each draw, find the player's name and follow the line to the right. That will show you the first match, with a date/time and the abbreviated site name (e.g. GHS is Granada High School), The sites (names, abbreviated names, addresses and Google maps), are available on the tournament web site. Come 15 minutes before your scheduled match time. After your match, report your match result (win or lose) and then check the draws online from your phone or look at the hard draws posted at the tournament desk

Thank you for your participation!
Hi all players and parents, thank you for your participation! Some parents expressed concern over the 6 game pro set format. After being rained out for half of the day on Saturday it was necessary to reduce the format because we only had 2 days to complete the event. If we had not reduced the format then many divisions and categories would have to be cancelled. also, some players and parents asked about switching the format back to 2 out of 3 sets for the finals. Unfortunately the format can't be changed back due to usta rules. It was a good decision to reduce the format to a 6 game set instead of a longer format because on Sunday you may not start a match past 6p and we barely made that deadline even with the reduced format. We also played till as late as the rules allowed on Saturday. Thanks to my staff for doing a great job squeegeeing on Saturday and thanks to all of the players and parents for your participation and compliments about my staff! Hope to see you at the next tournament with better weather! Also, this is our only tournament that is a 2 day even in 2016 and it was not by choice. Our tournaments always have large numbers and most all of the rest except younger player tournaments are 2 weekends or 3 days! Thanks again and refuse to lose!

Concurrent tournament permission granted by Hunter Gallaway
Hi, We will try to finish this tournament in one weekend! I grant concurrent tournament approval to any one playing in the Niru open or any other tournament starting on the 16-17th. The best way to play both tournaments is to just sign up for the Lafayette tournament and then if you lose or are completed by Sunday evening, then you will most likely be able to sign up online on Sunday evening for the next weekends tournament. If you do it this way then you do not need concurrent permission from both directors. We have an alternate site permit on the 9th for 6 extra courts so we will have a total of 15 courts on Saturday the 9th to use. Please remember that there are no guarantees that your draw will be finished on the 10th. Good luck and refuse to lose!

Attention all players and alternates
Thank You for applying for the tournament! This is a limied draw/tournament director selection tournament. The selection process is determined by the usta. If you were not accepted then you were automatically put on an alternate list and we will notify you if a spot opens up. Please email us if you do not want to be put on the alternate list. You also will not be charged for your entry fee. This is a new tournament that was sanctioned this year. The problem with the usta sanctioning a new tournament and not a longstanding one is that we cannot prepare for the amount of players ahead of time. We hate turning any players away and would like to give the most amount of players an opportunity to play. Please check your start time on friday just in case your opponent has withdrawn and your schedule changes!

Selection process, Eligibility, Seeding
This tournament is a Tournament Director selection process. That means that you are not in the tournament until we accept you. Most likely we will accept all players unless we have extreme large draws. We will follow the usta rules on the selection process if we do not accept all players. It is a top down selection process for open players and bottom up for challenger players. Eligibility to this tournament is open to all usta members that fall in the correct age brackets. If your birthday is during the same month of the tournament then you must play in the next higher age group. The seeding method that is used is whatever the current norcalusta list is on the day that we do the draws.

Rain delay info and hotline!
Please check this section of the notes to stay up to date on a possible Rain delay! Please do not come to the club until you read this section of the home page!!! The forecast is for some rain over the weekend but hopefully it will go away and give us a decent window to play. We will not cancel a day before noon due to the rules. We have lights, so plan on playing under them if we experience delays due to rain. The format may change if we experience a delay. The rain hotline is 925 9372582. Please only call this # in case of an emergency or if you are en route to the club and it begins to rain. If you are driving from more than 2 hrs out then you may call the director directly. Unfortunately, usually we will not be able to start a delay more than 2 hrs before the first match times. If it is raining Friday before the tournament we may start a delay Friday night after 8p. So please check this section before going to bed on Friday night if the weather looks iffy or by 6a on Saturday. Good luck and hopefully the rain will not be a factor!
