Thank you for your interest in the 6th Annual Zimmerman/Johnson USTA National Tournament at Stanford University. The tournament is a USTA International Tournament that earns National Level 2 Ranking Points. The tournament will be played at the Taube Family Tennis Center, 625 Campus Drive, Stanford, CA 94305. Additional courts on the Stanford Campus will also be used (Taube South, across the street from the stadium; West Campus Courts, 198 Campus Drive). This tournament is categorized as a USTA International Tournament, meaning players entering do not have to meet the US Citizen or Certain Alien eligibility requirements of other USTA National Tournaments - it is open to international players. A current USTA membership is also required. Because selection is based on the National Standings List of the division and up to four wild cards per division, international players will only be accepted if they apply for wild cards - see more information below on applying for a wild card.

This tournament is categorized as a USTA International Tournament and will use the ITF age eligibility cutoff date of December 31 to determine age eligibility for a division.
• Example #1: If you are currently 12, but will turn 13 on or before December 31, 2019, you ARE NOT ELIGIBLE to compete in the 12 Division and must enter the 14 Division.
• Example #2: If you are currently 14, but will turn 15 on or before December 31, 2019, you ARE NOT ELIGIBLE to compete in the 14 Division and must enter the 16 Division.
• Example #3: If you are currently 16 and will turn 17 on or before December 31, 2019 you ARE NOT ELIGIBLE to compete in the 16 Division and must enter the 18 Division.

Entries close for the tournament at 11:59 AM Eastern Standard Time on Thursday, August 15th (one minute before noon Eastern Time). To avoid potential problems that arise when attempting to register at the last minute, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that players enter well in advance of the deadline. A player that does not enter by the deadline is a Late Applicant and is placed on the bottom of the Alternate List.

Players may enter up to two divisions in this tournament, but will only be eligible to be selected and play in one division. It is important to understand the consequences of entering two divisions. When selection is done, selection will be done in descending division order.
• If a player is selected into the older age division entered, the player will not be selected into the younger age division.
• If a player is not selected into the older age division, the player will only be considered for selection into the younger division.
• If the player is not selected in the younger division the player will only be eligible to be an alternate in the younger division, unless the player receives a Wild Card in the older age division.

BG18 Champion: Champion will be considered for a Main Draw Wild Card into a $15K Pro Circuit Event; however, at this time no guaranteed wild card has been secured.

During registration, each player will be asked to read and sign the USTA Junior Player Oath below:

I recognize that tennis is a sport that places the responsibility for fair play on me. I promise to abide by the rules of the game, which require me to give the benefit of the doubt to my opponent. At all times I shall strive to compete with the true spirit of sportsmanship, recognizing that my behavior on the court is a direct reflection of my character. Whether my matches end with my victory or defeat, I promise to conduct myself in a way that honors my opponents, those who support me, and the game of tennis.

All players are required to submit a signed USTA Waiver & Release Form before competing in the tournament. A separate Stanford Waiver Form is also required. The Stanford Waiver MUST be completed PRIOR TO ARRIVAL. Both forms will be sent to all accepted players shortly after selection with instructions on submission.

The singles draw size is limited to 16 players per division. A compass draw will be played that guarantees all players 4 matches, barring withdrawals after the start of the tournament. Please note that this is a non-elimination tournament. Barring injury that does not permit continued play, players who enter are committing themselves to play this tournament to completion on Sunday.

Two rounds will be played on Friday and 1 round each on Saturday and Sunday. All matches will be the best of 3 Tiebreak sets. Last matches on Sunday will go on (provided we are running on time) by 1:30 pm.

Selection for the tournament will be done as follows:
• 12 players that meet ITF age eligibility from the most recently published National Standings List of the Division.
• Up to 4 wild cards.
• If fewer than 4 wild cards are awarded, vacancies will be filled with ITF age eligible players from the National Standings List of the Division used to select players under the 1st bullet.

Alternates will be ordered as follows:
• All timely applicants that meet the ITF age eligibility will be ordered using the National Standings List used to select players for the tournament.
• Late Applicants: A Late Applicant is a player who enters after the entry deadline. Regardless of position on the National Standings Lists, a Late Applicant is placed on the bottom of the Alternate List in the order in which it is received. Two Late Entries received at the same time are ordered by lot.
If a Wild Card recipient declines the Wild Card, the Tournament Committee reserves the right to select another player to receive a Wild Card.

Onsite Alternates: Onsite Alternates are those players on the Alternate Lists who have come to the tournament site to be a last-minute replacement for a withdrawing player. Onsite Alternates may be admitted into the draw to replace withdrawing players until the completion of the first round of play. Any player receiving a bye or a withdrawal in the first round who withdraws prior to the second round can also be replaced by an onsite alternate because this withdrawing player has not yet played a match in the event. This does not apply to players receiving retirements as these are considered matches won.

Any onsite alternate player desiring admittance must check in and be ready for play no later than 15 minutes prior to the first scheduled match time of the event for which they are an alternate. The order of the alternates is based on the original Alternate Lists published by the tournament, not a more recently published list, and not in the order in which the players check in.

Up to 4 Wild Cards per division may be awarded by the Tournament Committee. To guarantee consideration for a Wild Card, please submit a Wild Card Application by the entry deadline. Four players will be numerically seeded in each division. Seeding will be based on the most recently published National Singles Seeding List of the division, except that ratings, international players, players with ITF rankings, and players with outstanding results in the next-younger division may also be considered.

Information on if and how inclement weather affects the tournament schedule will be posted to top of this website as court conditions change. This tournament does not have indoor back up. In the unlikely event matches have to be cancelled due to inclement weather, the order of cancellation is as follows: singles consolation (non-East draw), singles main draw (East draw).

Prior to Entry Deadline: Prior to entries closing, a player may withdraw and automatically receive a refund of your entry fee by clicking on the "Withdrawal" link that is in the Edit Registration box at the top right of this page.

Withdrawals After Entry Deadline & Before Tournament Starts: Immediately contact Andrea Norman (AndreaN64@aol.com 408/892-7273) if you need to withdraw from the tournament after entries close and before the tournament starts.
• If the withdrawal is due to a injury or illness, the USTA Regulations require the injured or ill player to submit written verification from a medical professional before the end of the day on September 15th (the last day of the tournament).
• If the withdrawal is due to a personal circumstance, the player must submit a written description of the situation no later than the end of the day on September 15th (the last day of the tournament) and the Referee shall determine whether the situation is a personal circumstance.

Withdrawals After Tournament Starts: Follow the instructions above, except that you must CALL Andrea Norman - do not email. Also, if the withdrawal is due to an injury or illness the player MUST see the trainer at the Taube Family Tennis Center before leaving Palo Alto.

The draws will be made at the home of Assistant Tournament Director Andrea Norman on or about Sunday, September 8th. Draws will be published on Wednesday, September 11th so that players can reserve practice courts when at registration on Thursday, September 12th.

Players, parents, coaches, and other tournament guests are invited to Stanford University for Tournament Registration, a Welcome Dinner and Player Meeting on Thursday, September 12th. Registration begins at 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The dinner and meeting begin at 6:00 pm.

Tournament Registration on First Day of Play: Players that do not attend registration on Thursday evening must check in at least 30 minutes prior to their start time to register.

There will be no charge for practice courts.

Practice Courts on Thursday, September 12th - Day Before Start of Play
Following the announcement of players selected for the tournament, practice Courts at Stanford University may be reserved in 1-hour blocks from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, one time slot per player. To make a reservation, no later than midnight Pacific Time on Monday, September 9th, click on the link that follows to request a practice time. Up to 4 times may be submitted, in preference order. Assignments will be made on a first come, first served basis and announced by Wednesday, September 11th. During high-demand request times, two players may be assigned to a court. Openings in the practice court schedule can be reserved at Tournament Registration starting at 10 am on Thursday, September 12th. more info

Reservations for practice courts for Friday can be made in person during tournament registration on Thursday, September 12th from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm. Draws will be published on Wednesday to enable you to plan a practice court time.

Practice Courts for Saturday and Sunday can be made at the main Tournament Desk at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Practice Court Policies:
• Practice courts will be scheduled as set forth above.
• During periods when no reservations have been made, courts are available on a first come, first served basis.
• During high demand times, courts may have four people assigned to a court (this could be two groups of 2 Tournament Players, or 2 Tournament Players, each with their coach/hitting partner). Coaches, parents, players not in the draw, and other tournament guests are NOT considered "Tournament Players."
• Courts are available in one-hour blocks on Thursday before the start of the tournament and in half-hour blocks during the tournament. Please surrender your court if you have had use of it for a full half hour and players are waiting to get on.
• Please be courteous to other players, parents, and coaches. Unsportsmanlike conduct should be reported and is subject to penalty under the USTA Junior Suspension Point System.

Wilson Tennis Balls are the official balls of the tournament:
US Open Championship Extra Duty balls will be used for the Boys' Divisions.
US Open Championship Regular Duty balls will be used for the Girls' Divisions.

Stringing services will be available. Information will be provided in the player registration packet.

All players are required to wear appropriate tennis attire and dress in a manner consistent with being a participant a USTA Junior National Tournament. Sports bras, shirts with inappropriate language, shoes not designed for tennis, and any other attire that is recreational and not tennis-oriented is not permitted. T-shirts (other than the tournament shirt) are not acceptable on the final Sunday of the tournament. Players not meeting the dress code may be asked to change prior to going on the court.
