And congratulations again to the SOUTHWEST DIAMONDBACKS and COACH STEPHANIE WOOTEN for winning the Team Spirit/Sportsmanship Award! The Diamondbacks were quick to offer squeegee assistance, pick up trash (including other teams' trash), respectful to officials and tournament staff, and treated their opponents with courtesy, along with enthusiasm for their own game.
Kudos also to Ryan Tin (Texas Texans) and Calvin Wellman (Florida Lightning) for being the ONLY two players in the entire tournament to thank the Tournament Director for more than 100 hours of tournament service for this event.

Congratulations to the Southwest Diamondbacks for winning the team spirit / sportsmanship award for the 2018 USTA
Boys' and Girls' Zone Team! The Southwest Diamondbacks showed great spirit through some tough matches, as well as team bonding and enthusiasm for their team and respect of
opponents. They displayed outstanding sportsmanship off the court, with
friendly behavior toward officials and tournament staff, and Arlington Tennis Center
staff. Coach Stephanie Wooten was also a leader off court. Her team even pitched in to clean up trash left by an opposing team. Congratulations to the Southwest Diamondbacks and Coach Stephanie Wooten!
The Southwest Diamondbacks will have the official presentation of the plaque Monday morning before their first match. Diamondbacks: Please arrive by 10:30 AM, and be prepared for a picture!

TEXAS HEALTH RESOURCES SPORTS MEDICINE: TOURNAMENT FUELING TIMELINE
Playing multiple matches throughout a tournament requires proper fueling and hydration in order to compete at your best. Choose the appropriate amount and type of food before and between matches to maximize energy levels: ~ 3-4 Hours before match: Goal: Have a balanced meal to provide lasting energy for the match. Examples: Eggs, toast with jelly, glass of milk; turkey sandwich, pretzels, fruit salad; grilled/baked chicken breast, rice, green beans, roll ~ 1-3 Hours before match: Goal: Have a small meal or large snack to provide energy. Examples: Fruit smoothie, Greek yogurt, granola, berries, peanut butter and jelly sandwich ~ 30-60 Minutes before match: Goal: Have a carbohydrate-rich snack to top off energy stores heading into the match. PLAYER CHECK IN
Tournament check-in for PLAYERS is scheduled for Wednesday,
July 25, 12:00-2:00 PM at Arlington Tennis Center. Check-in
is mandatory. In
addition to important information about the tournament, players will need to
confirm cell phone numbers with tournament staff, and they will receive player
packets and player gifts.

PLAYER and COACH WELCOME LUNCH
Lunch will be provided to team players and coaches on site, free of charge, during check-in on Wednesday, July 25, 12:00-2:00 PM. Lunch will tentatively be turkey sandwiches, chips and cookies.
Note: Lunch during check-in is provided as a special courtesy to our players
and coaches. If you have restricted dietary issues, please consider bringing an alternative meal with you, or visit one of the dozens of area restaurants near Arlington
Tennis Center, as they will be able to accommodate special requests.

PLAYER & PARENT SEMINAR: ROAD TO COLLEGE TENNIS
Arlington
Tennis Center Head Tennis Professional, James Helvey Jr., will speak to players
and parents about the collegiate pathway. Coach Helvey was Head Tennis Coach at
Texas Wesleyan University for three years, before moving to Cameron University,
where he served as Head Tennis Coach for 24 years. During his career, he led
his teams to four conference championships, eight NCAA regional championships
and had an overall win/loss of 802-392. Additionally, Coach Helvey was the
NCAA/ITA Coach of the Year, and he served as the ITA National Chair for 10
years.

must be present at sign in. That is, parents, coaches, etc., may NOT sign
in for players. The player must sign themselves in as an On Site
Alternate.
* OSAs
who sign in after 2:30 PM on Wednesday, July 25 will be selected for teams
only after OSAs who checked in timely have been placed (or they have
declined), and then by order of check-in time.
* If a position is not available for an OSA at the close of
check in, the OSA must communicate with the tournament director whether or not (s)he will be available should a team member become unavailable once the
tournament begins (e.g., a team player becomes ill). The tournament director may then release the OSA to leave
the site, but the order of selection will not change.

tournament. * Coaches will be given information on practice courts at the
coaches' meeting on Wednesday, July 25.
* In addition to practice courts at each site, area high
school and park courts are available on a first come, first served
basis. * All players are expected to practice with their teams.

FORMAT and SCORING
Line Ups * Singles
team lineups are determined by the Section. * Doubles team lineups are
determined by the coaches, but the order is expected to follow the Singles
lineup. * The #1 boy and girl in Singles must play #1 Doubles.
Scoring * All
singles will be best of three tie-break sets. * Doubles will be a six-game set, no ad, with a regular tie-break at FIVE all.
Teams * Teams
will be divided into two flights, but will not be seeded.
Schedule and Team Scoring * Days
1-3: The Round Robin team format will be used for the first three rounds,
consisting of four doubles matches, two mixed doubles matches and 12 singles matches. * Mixed doubles matches count towards the team score,
but results do not count for national rankings.
* Day 4:
The Round Robin format will consist of six doubles matches, 12 singles matches,
followed by Championship and 5th Day doubles matches.
* Each
singles and doubles match counts for one point. * The team
that wins the most points (maximum of 18) is the winner of the Team Match.
* Ties (9-9) will be determined by a mixed doubles super tie-break.
Flight Winners * The team in each flight with the most Team points after the fourth day will be declared the winner of that flight. * The team with the
second most points in its flight is the second place team, etc. * A specific
process will be used to determine winners in the event of a tie.
* Flight winners will play 5th Day Doubles on Sunday afternoon, and Singles on Monday morning to determine the Zone Team Champions. * Day 5:
The first place teams in each flight will play off for first and second
place using the same format as Day 4 (no mixed doubles). Note that Day 5
Championship doubles are played the afternoon of Day 4, resulting in only
singles played on Day 5.
* There is no playoff for third place. However,
teams not in the Championship Team Match will be paired for 5th Day Doubles (on Saturday) and final matches
(on Sunday, consisting of singles only). Third through sixth place teams in each flight will have a true playoff, regardless of whether they are from the same section, or not.

COACHING
Coaches
are selected by the Sections. Players may receive coaching on changeovers or
set breaks on court at the net post where players rest, or off court from
behind the court and outside the fence. Coaches may enter the court only on
changeovers or set breaks, and coaching must not interfere with play on other
courts.

Gifts: Players will receive several gifts at check-in, including a T-shirt

Tennis Center's stringing staff is among the most experienced
in our area. We will have a stringer available throughout the tournament for
quick stringing turn-around.
Trainer:
Arlington
Tennis Center has arranged a partnership with the Texas Health Resources to provide a trainer at the
main site during the primary hours of the tournament. We sincerely hope
that you do not require the trainer's services. Wireless Internet: Arlington Tennis Center is
pleased to provide free wireless Internet to our guests.

PLAYER AWARDS AWARDS - SUNDAY, JULY 30
The Player Party will be held Sunday, July 29, 6:30-8:30 PM, tentatively scheduled on the Arlington Tennis Center Lawn. The festival will include dinner and entertainment, with the Championship matches and Team Spirit Sportsmanship award "bannerized' on site. * RSVP for the Player Party is required from Players, Coaches and guests no later than check-in on Wednesday, July 25. * Players and coaches are FREE.
Other guests who will eat and participate in games are $15 per person. * Parents and other guests who will eat only are $10 per person. * Full payment for guests is required at check-in on Wednesday, July 25.
Note: The player festival is provided as a special amenity to our players and other guests. The menu will be hamburgers, chicken burgers, chips, cookies, tea and lemonade. If the menu
does not meet dietary preferences or requirements, players and guests may dine at one of the many restaurants in the area before the Player Party.

ADVANCE PLANNING
Alcoholic Beverages: Alcoholic Beverages are prohibited on the property (including the parking lot).
Cell Phones: Please note that players may NOT use cell phones on court or at the tournament desk. Please turn them OFF. Spectators who use cell phones on the property should be mindful of whether their conversations interfere with tournament play (in which case, they will be asked to leave the area or turn the phone off) or normal business operations of the facility. Thank you for your cooperation.
Dress Code: We require that players and spectators wear traditional attire appropriate for a family tennis environment. All guests (players and spectators) are required to wear shirts (including ladies wearing shirts over sports bras), with no bare stomachs / abdomens or backs. Low and wide cut tanks that do not cover sports bras are not adequate coverage. Shorts and skirts should be of an appropriate length, as well, and transparent or 'see-through' garments are not allowed. As determined by the discretion of the Tournament Director, Referee and/or site managers, attire with offensive, suggestive or disrespectful images or language will not be allowed. Players and spectators who do not dress appropriately will be required to adjust their attire. The dress code applies to players and spectators at all sites throughout the tournament. Failure to comply may result in suspension points..
Pets: Pets are prohibited in the Arlington Tennis Center proshop/building and inside the fenced areas around the courts.
Smoking: Smoking is prohibited in the Arlington Tennis Center proshop/building & inside the fenced areas around the courts, as well as 50' from any entrance or fenced area.
Spectators: We welcome spectators for this event! However, spectators are not allowed on court at any time, at any site.
Water: Water coolers are not placed on court at Arlington Tennis Center or on alternate site courts. If playing at Arlington Tennis Center, a commercial ice machine and water fountain are located on the west patio and players and guests are also welcome to purchase bottled water, fountain drinks, sports drinks and juices in the proshop. In addition, while water may not be on court at alternate sites. Players are expected to bring their own water to their matches.

VIDEOGRAPHY / PHOTOGRAPHY
Videotaping/Photography: Personal videotaping and photography are not allowed at any site, except persons who are videotaping 'their' player (parent, guardian or person designated by the parent/guardian) from a non-distracting position off court, OR persons designated by the tournament staff to photograph or videotape aspects of the tournament for use in print or on public websites. Personal videotaping equipment may not be affixed to any facility property, including fencing. The umpire or tournament staff may direct the videotaping or photography to stop if it is determined that the action is interfering or distracting to either player.
