Player/Parent Contact Info
Tournament directors do not have access to phone numbers and email addresses of the tournament participants UNLESS the player re-enters their contact information at time of event registration. This means that if a player does not enter their phone and email information each time they register for a tournament, the tournament director will not be able contact them for any reason, including withdrawals, defaults, byes, rain delays, etc. Your cooperation will ensure that tournaments can continue to communicate necessary information to you. Thank you.

Seeding and Selection
The use of Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) will be used for the seeding and placement of players in the draws for this tournament.
Universal Tennis Ratings provide tennis players worldwide a common scale to determine their level of play. The 16-level scale (from beginners to elite world-class professionals), precisely and reliably determines individual players' ratings based on actual match results without regard for age, gender or where the matches are played. The Universal Tennis website allows visitors to view more than three million tennis results.
For the seeding selections UTR Ratings will be used. Click the "more info" link for the seeding lists.

Hotels
I highly suggest you use a discount search site such as Expedia, Travelocity, and even "Google" cheap hotels in the 85258 zip code. Look for hotels in Old Town Scottsdale, Salt River Fields areas, as they will be the most convenient to the 2 Scottsdale sites. For the Mesa Tennis Center location look for hotels in the Mesa area for the best deals. It is high season in the Valley.

DRAW
The draw will be held on Friday, February 10, 9:00 am, at the USTA Southwest office, 7010 E. Acoma Drive, Suite 201, Scottsdale. Draws will not be posted until scheduled over that weekend, and will be posted by Tuesday, February 14.

Doubles / Doubles Partner
You must play singles and doubles in the same age division for L3-4 tournaments. If you have not indicated your doubles partner, please do so by Wednesday, February 8th, 5pm, or you will be matched up. Please email BoilerSal@cox.net with your doubles info.
You may email me your name and your doubles partner's name. Only email me, CONFIRMED doubles pairings (you and your partner agree to play together).
If you enter online and do not put in your doubles partner's USTA# it WILL NOT match you up. Please help in making the doubles matchups a smooth process. You are only guaranteed to play doubles if you sign up with a partner (and they do not withdraw).
3/4 Doubles Playoff There will be a 3/4 playoff for all doubles draws that are not round robin format. All L3, L4, and L5 events will have a 3/4 playoff in doubles draws that are not round robin format.

Birth Certificate and Eligibility
This tournament is open only to permanent residents of the USTA Southwest Section. Permanent residency is defined by the parent or legal guardian living within the section for 184 days per year. Additionally, the player must be a U.S. Citizen and hold a USTA membership card with a USTA Southwest Section designation. Birth Certificate must be on file with the USTA Southwest Section office to compete. Email your birth certificate to bdamore@southwest.usta.com or fax to 480-289-2701.

USTA Southwest Dress Code
All players are required to wear appropriate tennis attire. Cut off shorts, bare midriffs, compression shorts & tights (alone), or any other attire that is simply recreational and not tennis oriented is not acceptable.
|
Withdrawal Policy
If a player withdraws or defaults from any sanctioned tournament in the Southwest Section (L3-L6), after entries close, that player will be assessed 4 suspension points unless medical documentation of the injury or illness is provided to the Tournament Director AND Southwest Section Junior Player Development Manager within 48 hours after the completion of the tournament.
"Player shall not enter tournament player cannot finish. Player shall not enter a tournament (including mandatory consolation) knowing the player will be unable to finish." p119 Friend at Court.
In theory, the Junior Competition Committee feels that it is important to adopt and strongly enforce National’s ruling on the Suspension Point System. In recent years, several players have been pulling out of tournaments, especially L3-5 events, on the final day of competition or once a player is in the back draw.
Once the Open Draw is held, February 10th, 9am, there are NO REFUNDS.

Electronic Wearables
Effective Immediately, The use of smart watches or any electronic device that can receive electronic communication, must be in off mode and in bag unless on break between 2nd and 3rd set.
|
Overrule Policy
Once a player has been overruled a second time, they will be cautioned that after another overrule, they will be penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct under the Point Penalty System: point, game, default.
Rationale: This policy is based on Friend At Court Comment IV.D-15 which states, “An official should consider cautioning a player if there have been two overrules during the same set. Once an official cautions a player that subsequent overrules will be penalized under the Point Penalty System, the official must penalize subsequent overrules.

Video Taping Policy in Central Arizona
The recent increased usage of and improvements in technology have afforded tennis players many advantages. One advantage is instant feedback via video analysis of match play. While many chose to use this tool during their personal practice, it has become a commonly used tool for recording match play during a tournament. Given the benefits and potential hazards of videotaping and social network postings, the USTA Central Arizona District has adopted the following policy and procedures to ensure the goodwill (atmosphere of fairness and good sportsmanship) and protection of the player population for junior tournament play.
Policy: No videotaping of both players during match play at a USTA Central Arizona sponsored event, (regardless of location or facility), will be permitted without mutual consent in writing. (Form to be provided by the USTA.) Cameras are allowed to be hung from the fence (before the match has started) and or set up outside the court. No cameras are to be placed anywhere on the court or inside the fence surrounding the court. Please note that this does not apply to parents or coaches videotaping their own children or players exclusively. It only applies to those who are interested in videotaping match play which includes both players.
Procedure: In order to videotape match play (both players) during a USTA Central Arizona sponsored event, all parties must be in mutual consent of the filming process and sign a consent form stating that the video tape will be used for personal viewing only and will not be posted to any social networks for universal access. The consent forms should be made available by the tournament directors. The party filming must fill out the consent form and obtain the signatures of the parents of their opponents. The form must be submitted to the tournament director no later than the time the player is to check in for their match. All forms must be submitted to the Central AZ Office by the tournament director to be kept on file for one year. Noncompliance with this policy will be considered unsportsmanlike conduct and is subject to the Point Penalty System.
