SELECTION LIST & ALTERNATES
The selection list is now posted. If you see your name on the competitors list, that means you have been selected to play. Otherwise your name will appear on the "Alternates by Event" link above. IF YOU CHOOSE TO ENTER ANOTHER TOURNAMENT, YOU MUST NOTIFY MEGAN HENEGHAN (Heneghan@scta.usta.com or (310) 824-2559) TO WITHDRAW YOUR NAME FROM THE ALTERNATE LIST IMMEDIATELY. If you entered in two divisions and did not get into your first choice but got into your second choice, you were removed from the alternate list of your first choice. If you failed to notify the SCTA of your choices, we assumed the higher division was your first choice.
If you are an alternate, enter in another tournament, then end up getting into the Talbert (because you didn't notify Megan immediately), you may NOT withdraw from the other event to play this one. If you do, you will lose ranking points from both tournaments and be assessed 5 suspension points (10 suspension points gets you suspended for 3 months- 1st time suspension).

**SCTA SPECTATOR POLICY**
ATTENTION ALL SPECTATORS (INCLUDES PARENTS, COACHES, RELATIVES, FRIENDS, ETC.) In an effort to promote a more enjoyable and fair experience for all, the following policy is in immediate force and effect, and shall be diligently and stringently enforced. USTA Southern California (SCTA) has implemented a “ZERO TOLERANCE” policy for improper behavior.
1. Any attempt by a spectator to speak to an official regarding a line call or other ruling during match play shall be cause for immediate removal from the playing area and, if warranted, from the premises.
2. Any spectator behavior deemed unacceptable towards a player, other spectator or staff member shall be cause for immediate removal from the playing area or the entire premises. If said behavior is directed towards a player, either before, during or after a tournament, it shall result in an automatic and immediate suspension of that spectator’s right to attend USTA Southern California tournaments, for a period of time to be determined by the USTA Southern California Grievance and Sportsmanship Committee.
3. Refusal to adhere to a removal request shall trigger immediate enforcement of the point penalty system against the player with whom the spectator is involved (per point penalty system regulations), including possible immediate default.
4. The On-Site Official is the SOLE judge regarding unacceptable behavior.
Umpire/Spectator communication, whether it be about a ruling or any other facet of a tennis event is prohibited while a match is in progress. Being a parent, coach, etc. does not endow special privileges. With the only exception of the right to remove their own child from competition at any time, a parent or coach is merely a spectator. REMOVAL IS NOT SUBJECT TO APPEAL.
|

WELCOME
Welcome to the 3rd Annual Henry Talbert Junior Championships. This tournament is a SCTA Level 1 (advanced) Tournament as well as a USTA Level 3 Tournament for points-per-round ranking purposes.
|
WHO WAS HENRY TALBERT?
Henry was born, raised, and attended schools in Los Angeles. He played on public courts and never forgot that this is where tennis starts. He attended UCLA and eventually worked in many capacities for the USTA in White Plains, N.Y. In 1974, Henry began his 39 year career with the USTA. Instrumental in the establishment of community and recreational tennis, Henry became the first African-American to be a USTA administrator on the national level. His goals were aimed at increasing participation in our sport and implementing activities that provided youngsters, adults, and seniors with tennis playing opportunities. Henry became the Executive Director of the Southern California Tennis Association (SCTA) in 1997 to his retirement in 2013. He set high standards for himself and others and was always there to encourage and mentor. He loved Junior tennis and attended many junior tournaments. He was a true friend to all people and also to tennis. His caring and loving is why we have the Henry Talbert Junior Championships. Henry lost his battle to cancer on January 12, 2014 and is dearly missed by all who knew him.
