SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDS!!
A BIG Congratulations goes out to Morgan Johnson of the Boys 18's and to Thai Thompson of the girls 18's divisions for earning our Sportsmanship Awards. The Tournament Committee and Referees voted and offer our congratulations to both of these fine athletes for being tremendous Role Models for our younger players. While we had a tremendous tournament and MANY players that were also tremendous sports and a tribute to our sport, we are recognizing these two athletes. Thank you to ALL who take pride in being good sports and good people both on and off the court. Knowing how to treat others is essential to success in life. We enjoyed seeing all of you this weekend, representing 9 states here in Paducah, Kentucky and hope to see you back next year. Thanks again, your tournament committee. :)

Rules Changes as of 2011
The following rule changes will take place for all USTA Sanctioned Tournaments beginning in 2011:
•All matches with a full 3rd set receive a 10 minute break before starting the 3rd set (this change gives the 10 minute break to the 18 & Under Division)
•When playing a Match Tiebreak in Lieu of the 3rd Set, players receive a 3 minute break where coaching is allowed.
Suggestions: The players should stay on the court during this time and coaching should be done through the fence.
Note: If a player is not back to the court and ready to play after the 3 minute break, the player is defaulted from the match (this stems from the rule that if you are late after a break, the player receives a game penalty)
Note: If a player goes to the restroom during the break, he/she is granted extra time. The opponent can receive coaching throughout the entire break if the player who is going to the bathroom is believed to be receiving coaching.
•A player loses the point if he/she reverses the call from “out” to “in”.

10 & Under Divisions—Singles & Doubles
Beginning January 1, 2011, ALL 10 & Under tournament play in Kentucky (and Southern Section) will use the QuickStart Tennis Play Format. The following are mandatory parameters for all play in 10 & Under tournaments:
•Racket—up to 25 inches in length
•Ball—Orange Low Compression Ball
•Court—60’*21’ for singles, 60’*27’ for doubles
•Scoring—Singles—2 short sets to 4 games. At 4-4, a Set Tiebreak (first to 7, win by 2) is played. In lieu of a 3rd set, a Set Tiebreak (first to 7, win by 2) is played to determine the winner of the match. Doubles—1 set to 6 games. If the score reaches 6-6, a Set Tiebreak is played (first to 7, win by 2)
All 10s tournaments, including the Creason and Southern Closed, will use the parameters listed above. Players should be able to keep score, call their lines, and, ultimately, complete the match without a permanent court monitor.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
For more information on 10 & Under Tennis, log on to www.10andundertennis.com or contact USTA Kentucky at 1-888-582-8674.
