INCIDENT: LOOKING FOR A WITNESS
Several people (mistakenly?) went to the Greenspring Valley Hunt Club for practice courts (the Garrison Forest School, our site, is farther down the street). Apparently someone, who claimed his daughter had a very high ranking, got into an altercation with the Pro and, on the way out, keyed the Pro's car. If ANYONE has any idea who this might have been, please contact us - by phone or email - immediately. Thank you!

Congratulations
To Howard Head Sportsmanship Award winners Chris Vrabel and Danna Gandelman! And to singles winners Tina Jiang and Luca Corinteli. Thanks to all the officials and help at the desk, the Stowers family (for all the good food), referee Dave DeGrafft, trainer Jenn Cook, and string Dave Oster. And, finally, thanks for the great weather for the final few days. And very special thanks to all the parents and players who both exhibited some great sportsmanship and patience (through our several rain delays) and who also said such nice things to us about the tournament. That's the reason we do it!

Tuesday News
Doubles winners (girls) Tina Jiang and Katrine Steffensen (8-3) were joined by (boys) Luca Corinteli and Josh Goodman (8-4). The 9 am Wednesday singles finals will be Tina Jiang v. Alexandra Sharshakov and Luca Corinteli v. Joshn Goodman. The girls winner of the Howard Head Sportsmanship Award was Danna Gandelman. The boys winner will be announced Wednesday. Again, if you see any mistakes (we occasionally make them!), please email. Thanks and see you tomorrow: Finals and 3/4 playoffs at 9 am followed by awards ceremony and Papa John's for everyone!

Monday News
Parking: School is in session. Please do NOT park by the courts - even if the gate is down. You must park in one of the lots off Woods Road by the Field House. ALSO: Please let us know if you see mistakes in spelling, scores, etc. -- they happen.

Dampness!
It's Sunday morning and we have some showers! They are predicted to pass through and the day is supposed to be lovely. But for now . . . we are on a two hour delay. If we need to increase that, we will put that information on the weather phone: 410 581-4760.
|
SUNDAY SCHEDULE
Boys' Singles: All Sunday matches will stand as scheduled (only two consolation matches are still in progress, will resume at 8 am, are close to finishing). Girls' Singles: All Sunday matches will stand as scheduled. Girls' Doubles: Those matches in progress will resume at 1:30 pm Sunday. The two remaining rounds will follow. Boys' Doubles: Matches scheduled for Saturday will now be played at 2:00 Sunday. The next round (which was scheduled for 2 Sunday) will now play at 4 Sunday. The quarterfinal round, previously scheduled for 4 Sunday, will now be played Monday. ALL DRAWS WILL BE UPDATED WITH THIS INFORMATION AS SOON AS I'VE GOTTEN HOME, HAD DINNER AND A SHOWER! :)

Saturday morning weather
looks fine. And at this writing, the weather phone is not working (can't change the message). So just come on out, we'll start at 8 am.
|
WEATHER!!
Everyone is excited about the weather! Well, no need: The reports keep improving. In fact, we are again planning on trying the dinner and meeting at the courts this evening (for a while, we were skittish and thinking indoors). And the courts should be available 3-6 for hitting today. As for tomorrow, one computer model has some rain early, the other says perhaps some Sunday evening. So for now, we're just on as always scheduled. We wil update the weather phone -- 410 581-4760 -- by 6 am in the morning and continue updating as is necessary. If you don't get through, it's because too many people are calling; so just try again in a few minutes. Please do not call the on-site number (410-935-8331), which is a personal cell phone and a number we try to keep free for actual emergency use. Note that even if we were to lose tomorrow entirely, we would be able to complete the tournament on Wednesday without changing format nor violating maximum number of matches played per day.

Draws and tentative schedule
We are posting the draw now for several reasons: One, we wanted to get updated weather information on the web site. Two, the unsettled weather seems to be unusually unsettling people, and we don't want to add to that! Please note that posting them this early inevitably leads to more alterations since we may still have some last minute withdrawals. So please be certain to check the draws as late as you can before your first match. And do not use this as an excuse not to come to the mandatory meeting: We really do like to see you there, and it's the only time we have to give you the complete run-down on tournament specifics. See you tonight!

Mandatory Meeting Friday Night
The USTA requires us to host a mandatory meeting (which we combine with 20 practice courts and a free dinner for all attendees on Friday night!). This is a time for check-in, picking up t-shirts, etc., and signing up for doubles or confirming doubles entries (needed since partners often do not get into the singles draws, etc.). We also use the time to distribute the program, draw and schedule. Finally, it is also used to give out last minute information about the tournament. The meeting is mandatory. You will not be defaulted for not coming to it, but you will be responsible for information given out then. Please do not call for that information; we simply cannot speak to 128 entrants separately: That is one reason for the meeting. NOTE: The courts will be open from 3 pm to dark on Friday afternoon, the dinner will be at 6, and the meeting at 7. PLEASE go to the website for specific info. Thanks! See you Friday!

Payment
If you are an Alternate who gets selected OR an accepted Player who is subsequently informed that your credit card transaction was unsuccessful, please send a check for $75 made out to BTP and mail it to: Baltimore Tennis Patrons, ATTN: National 12s, 1107 Kenilworth Drive, Suite 101, Baltimore, MD 21204. Withdrawing from the tournament
We do expect there will be some withdrawals. Note: You may only withdraw because of injury, illness, or personal emergency. Other withdrawals are considered Defaults and Code of Conduct reports will be filed in those cases. To withdraw, you must notify us in writing, preferably by email to llevy@mcdonogh.org. In accordance with USTA policy, only players who withdraw more than 7 days before the start of the tournament will have their entry fee returned. Doubles Sign-Up
No need to sign up on line, but you can. Doubles sign-up will be open on site, and we will ask ALL players to confirm doubles sign-up and partners on site in any event. So you can sign up now or later. Note: NO need to inform us of doubles intentions, changed intentions, etc., before you arrive on site because draws will not be done until later. NOTE: Doubles sign-up will close at the conclusion of the Friday night mandatory meeting. ALSO: We are now planning to start doubles Saturday afternoon; draws will be posted on site by noon.

Double Billing
USTA has informed us (as several of you had!) that they mistakenly double billed some of you for this tournament. They also tell us that those funds have been returned. Please accept our sincerest apology for this mix-up!
|
Changing Sites
If you wish to change sites, you must request permission in writing from both tournament directors (us at llevy@mcdonogh.org) at least 10 days before the tournament begins. The request may or may not be granted.
