not make it to the OPTIONAL EARLY REGISTRATION period on Tuesday, July 2
(see below), you must register at the tournament desk at least one hour
prior to your first scheduled match on Wednesday. The draws will be posted at the tennis center at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2.
OPTIONAL EARLY REGISTRATION ON TUESDAY There is NO
player meeting scheduled for this tournament, however, all players must
'register' at the Tournament Desk prior to their first scheduled match
of the tournament. We will be offering an OPTIONAL early registration
period on Tuesday, July 2, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. To register, players
will need to provide a completed MEDICAL RELEASE FORM. We will have
these forms available on site, but it will be a much quicker process if
you can complete the form beforehand and fax it to Wendy Franz, FAX #
989-631-5532, or bring the completed form with you when you register for
the tournament. Please see the message further below (MEDICAL RELEASE
FORM) that includes a link to the form). When you register we will ask
for local contact information and the name of the hotel you are staying
at, and we will give you a copy of the tournament program and your
tournament shirt. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REGISTER EARLY ON TUESDAY YOU
WILL NEED TO REGISTER AT THE TOURNAMENT DESK ON WEDNESDAY MORNING AT
LEAST ONE HOUR PRIOR TO YOUR FIRST SCHEDULED MATCH.

DOUBLES INSTRUCTIONS ALL players who plan to play doubles need to email Wendy Franz at franz@midlandtennis.com to confirm that you plan to play doubles and to tell us who your partner is. If you need help in finding a partner, please let us know. If you are not paired up by Tuesday, we will do our best to assist during the Optional Early Registration Period from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thanks!
GROUP AND PRIVATE HITTING SESSIONS There will be a group hitting session on Tuesday, July 2, from 5:30-7pm. The session will consist of structured drilling and point play and will be run by two of our top pros! Cost is $15, and advance registration is required. Please email Steve Host at shost@midlandtennis.com to sign up (you can pay when you get here). Private hitting sessions may also be available, depending on the day and time of the request, and the prevailing private lesson fee for the pro you hit with will apply. PRACTICE COURTS The Midland Community Tennis Center is a nationally-recognized tennis facility featuring 16 indoor hard courts, 15 outdoor hard courts, and 4 outdoor clay courts. All tournament play will take place outdoors on the 15 hard courts, weather permitting. ALL PRACTICE COURTS AT THE TENNIS CENTER WILL BE AVAILABLE ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS, THROUGHOUT THE TOURNAMENT (no reservations). Please see our Welcome Center staff when you arrive for all practice court requests and court assignments. Players cannot enter any courts (outdoors or indoors) without a court assignment card from the Welcome Center. Outdoor practice courts are FREE. The indoor court rate is $26.00 per hour and fees must be paid prior to receiving a court assignment and entering the court. NOTE-Players reserving indoor courts for practice may lose their court (you will get a refund) if rain forces play indoors. Tournament matches will begin each morning at 8:00 a.m. During each morning of play, outdoor courts will be available (weather permitting) until 8:00 a.m. Once play starts each day, there will not be any outdoor courts available for practice at the tennis center. Additional nearby outdoor practice courts are located within ten minutes of the tennis center at H.H. Dow High School (8 courts) and Midland High School (8 courts), as well as several nearby middle schools. Directions and a map will be available at our Welcome Center when you arrive, or click on the link on this page (Midland Driving Directions and Map) to print a copy of the map now. IMPORTANT-Please make sure you bring your own practice balls. Tennis center hoppers, ball carts, ball machines, and demo racquets are not available for tournament player use.
FINDING PRACTICE PARTNERS We will provide a sign-up sheet at the tennis center starting on Tuesday to help players find other players to warm-up or practice with during the tournament.
USTA NATIONAL LEVEL 2 TOURNAMENT For ranking purposes, this is a USTA National Level 2 Tournament. The DRAW SIZE will be 32 for singles and 16 for doubles. This tournament will feature a feed-in consolation (FIC) and a 3rd-4th place playoff for the singles draw. The scoring format for Main Draw Singles will be the best of three tiebreak sets. The scoring format for the FIC matches will be the best of three tie-break sets with a 10-point match tiebreak in lieu of a 3rd set. The FIC will be played through the semifinals (no finals will be played in the FIC). Players losing in any main draw singles round through the quarterfinals will be entered in the FIC. Play in the FIC is mandatory, as is the 3rd-4th place playoff. Doubles scoring format will be an 8-game pro-set with a match tiebreak (first to 10, ahead by 2) at 8-games all. Doubles will be single elimination and will have a 3rd-4th place playoff. All matches will be played at the Midland Community Tennis Center/900 E. Wackerly Street/Midland, Michigan 48642. TOURNAMENT WITHDRAWALS & ENTRY FEE REFUNDS If you need to withdraw from this tournament PRIOR to the entry deadline, it must be done on this site (See Edit Registration). You will need your registration confirmation number. All withdrawal requests AFTER the entry deadline must be made to Wendy Franz, Tournament Director, by phone and in writing by email. See contact information below. Requests must include player name, USTA number, a detailed reason for the withdrawal, mailing address, and phone number. AFTER THE DRAW HAS BEEN MADE: 1)Withdrawal requests due to injury or illness will require written verification from a medical professional, to be e-mailed or faxed to the tournament director no later than 12:00 p.m. Noon on Friday, July 5, 2013. 2) Withdrawal requests due to personal circumstance will require a written description of the situation to be e-mailed or faxed to the tournament director no later than 12:00 p.m. Noon on Friday, July 5, 2013. The tournament Referee shall determine whether the situation is a personal circumstance, and whether or not suspension points will apply. TOURNAMENT PROGRAM Each player will receive a tournament program when they register for the tournament. In lieu of a player meeting, this tournament program will contain helpful and important tournament information, and each player will be responsible for understanding the contents of the program.
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE OF PLAY Wednesday, July 3: SINGLES MAIN DRAW Round of 32 and Round of 16, SINGLES FIC CONSOLATION DRAW First Round, DOUBLES Round of 16 and Quarterfinals. Thursday, July 4: SINGLES MAIN DRAW Quarterfinals and Semifinals, SINGLES FIC CONSOLATION DRAW Second Round and Quarterfinal Qualifier, DOUBLES Semifinals. Friday, July 5: SINGLES MAIN DRAW Finals and Third-Fourth Playoff, SINGLES FIC CONSOLATION DRAW Quarterfinals and Semifinals (the Consolation Finals will not be played), DOUBLES Finals and Third-Fourth Playoff.
DRESS CODE Players will be expected to wear appropriate tennis attire befitting a national level tournament during all tennis matches. Any player not meeting the dress code will be asked to change before going on the court. BOYS - No tank tops or sleeveless shirts that are not designed specifically for tennis by sports manufacturers. Boxer shorts must not show above or below shorts. GIRLS - The bottom of the shirt must meet the top of shorts or skirt when arms are at rest (throughout the entire match). Players wearing compression shorts may be asked to put on conventional shorts or skirts over them.
TOURNAMENT BALL The Wilson Extra Duty Hard Court tennis ball will be used for this tournament.

PRO SHOP AND STRINGING SERVICES The Midland Community Tennis Center has a nationally-recognized full-service pro shop, "Advantage", that offers stringing, racquets, shoes, apparel, and other items. The pro shop will be open during tournament hours, and expert racquet string will be available. Personal stringing machines are not allowed in the tennis center building or in the outdoor facility.
