Dear Players
and Parents,
We are pleased
to announce that the remainder of the Palmetto Championships in Florence is
now rescheduled for Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26 for both
main draw and consolation rounds. We will be using Florence Country
Club and local high school courts as tournament sites to maximize the safety
of all those involved in the tournament and to ensure social distancing. More
details will be posted on the tournament homepage shortly (ID: 700124820).
If you are
unable to play on the rescheduled dates, you must reply IN WRITING
VIA EMAIL to florencepalmetto@gmail.com by 12:00PM ON
TUESDAY, JULY 21. If a player does not inform the tournament staff
that they will be unable to play in the tournament and does not show up for
their matches, they will be issued suspension points per the rules at Friend
at Court.
There will also
be mandatory safety guidelines in place at each tournament site. These can be
found below:
* There
will be a limit of two spectators per player who may be on site while
their junior player is on court.
* Face
masks will be required when anyone is within 6 feet of another
individual (outside of family members).
* If
social distancing protocols and guidelines are not being adhered to,
those individuals will be asked to leave the tournament site and players
may be subject to disqualification and default.
* All
players must use the Match Tennis App virtual tournament desk and score
reporting.
* All
players will virtually check in at least 15 minutes prior to their
scheduled match time.
* Players
and spectators must leave the site within 10 minutes after the
conclusion of their matches.
* Temperature
checks will be done on all staff members prior to play starting.
* It is
highly recommended that players and spectators also do temperature
checks prior to arriving to the site for match play.
Virtual
pre-tournament check in for the rescheduled dates MUST be completed by
11:00PM ON MONDAY, JULY 20TH if you plan on participating in the rest of the
tournament. The
previous pre-tournament check in has been deleted and you must complete the
new pre-tournament check in for the rescheduled dates of the
tournament. NO PLAYERS will be permitted to begin their match until
they have completed the Virtual Check-In that is posted on
TennisLink or you can click the link below to complete it.

Virtual
Tournament Desk & Score Reporting
To ensure
social distancing, our tournament will not be using a physical tournament
desk. We will instead be using Match Tennis App's Virtual Tournament Desk to
facilitate match check ins, court assignments, calling matches, and score
reporting. All tournament communications will be done through mobile devices.

All players

Tournament Sites & Length
All rescheduled matches played in Florence will be scheduled at three 6-court sites...The Florence Country Club, West Florence High School and South FlorenceHigh School..
Most (but not all) matches will be played at: -Girl's 14U-Florence Country Club -Girl's & Boy's 12U-South Florence High School -Girl's & Boy's 10U-West Florence High School All finals will be played at Florence Country Club
Pending good weather the Girl's 10U should finish Saturday afternoon. The Boy's 10U, Boy's 12U, Girl's 12U and Girl's 14U should finish Sunday

Tournament Operations Safety Plan
Pertaining to Covid 19
The state of South Carolina and the
host cities (Belton and Florence) and counties (Anderson and Florence) are in
the approved phase and meet reopening criteria where youth sporting events can
take place. All requirements,
recommendations, policies and guidelines from these governments, local health
organizations, USTA, USTA Southern and USTA South Carolina (as outlined) will
be followed (and are not repeated in this document).
Players will check in and receive
court assignments via Match Tennis App. At the conclusion of
the match the players should report their score as soon as possible using Match Tennis App.
All tournament desks will be located outside if needed and be taped off to insure
social distancing of at least 6 feet. T-shirts, bag tags
and meal gift cards will be provided each player on court before/during their first
match. A five minute warm up will be
allowed prior to every match. The
tournament website and a rain app will be used in case of inclement weather.
Masks but be worn at all times in all
restrooms and other indoor tournament facilities. Masks must be worn outside on any tournament
grounds in situations where someone is within 6 feet of another individual.
Scheduling will be done on 2 hour
increments (1 hour and 20 minutes for 10U). Players will be advised to come no sooner than 10 minutes before their
match times and must leave within 10 minutes of their match conclusion.
Per guidelines, each match will be
played with two cans of tennis balls, one an even number and the other an odd
number. Tennis balls will be arranged in
cases by the number and two cases (one with even numbers and one with odd
numbers) will be placed on court.
Players will be responsible for taking their balls from the case and
opening the can. At the conclusion of
the match they will take their balls and their can with them. We will not collect used balls.
The tournament will be played at three 6-court facilities (Florence Country Club, West Florence High School and Wilson High School) and all common touch points at each site will be
disinfected with MonoFoil using a pump sprayer.
MonoFoil is an eco-clean formula that is safe and non-toxic and kills
microbes (including Coronavirus) for four to six weeks. Guidelines are, ·Temperature checks will be done on all staff and officials before entering the facility each morning -Tournament staff will wear masks at all times. Officials will wear masks while on court with players and also when they are within 6 feet of another individual. -Masks are encouraged for everyone, and required when in the restroom or any other tournament facility. Masks must be worn by everyone outside when they cannot social distance (6 feet or more)
- Entrance
to all courts will be through side gates which will remain open

The
clubhouse at FCC will be open, but a limited number of people will be allowed in this area
at one time
·
The
restrooms at each facility will be cleaned multiple times each day and no more
than 2 people will be allowed in a restroom at one time ·
Tournament desks will be at each site, and will be taped off so everyone will be at least six feet from staff
and no congregating will be allowed
·
No
more than two people may be in the tournament desk area at one time
·
Multiple
hand sanitizer stations will be available
·
Multiple
touch free trash cans will be available
·
Hand
sanitizer will be placed on each court -The tournament recommends that only 1 parent/spectator per player be on the premises for the match; some high school courts allow viewing from the car or from a distance away from the courts
·
Bleachers
will be available for spectators and signage will be placed to insure
social distancing
·
Rackets
can be restrung in the FCC clubhouse and will be sanitized prior to pick up

SCORE REPORTING
At the conclusion of your match you may report your score to the tournament desk if you are having trouble entering it on the Match App.

FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES TO ENSURE YOU'LL RECEIVE COURT ASSIGNMENTS VIA TEXT
* When setting up your Match Tennis App account, all family members should sign in with the same username and password.
* Make sure you add three DIFFERENT contact numbers during the Pre Tournament Virtual Check-In THAT WILL BE ON during the tournament. They all should be cell numbers since messages will be in the form of texts. When you are called to court, all your contact phones will receive the message.
* If you need to add or change contact numbers go to “My Account” in Match Tennis App and click “Completed Waivers” to add or change contact numbers.

Refunds
No refunds will be provided for any reason after the draws are made at noon on Monday, July 6. A $5 crediit card and handling fee will be deducted from all refunds.

SEEDING
Because the Palmetto Championships is a Southern Level 2 tournament, the USTA Southern standings will be the primary consideration used. The USTA Southern Seeding Criteria is as follows:
Seeding will be based primarily on the most recently published USTA Southern Combined Standings List (used for selections prior to the date of seeding the tournament) of the division in the order in which players appear on the list. In addition to the list, other criteria to consider includes: -Players who have a standing in a younger age division may be seeded in any group of seeds if they are in the top 10 in the most recently published USTA Southern Combined Standings Lists of any younger age division. -Players with current top 50 USTA National standing, top 100 ITF ranking, top 1000 ATP or WTA ranking should be considered for seeded.
There will be approximately 1 seed for every 4 players in the draw. Seeds 5-8 and 9-16 (if necessary) will be alphabetical.

Sportsmanship
The Palmetto Championships encourages good sportsmanship from players, parents and coaches and abides by the USTA slogan: "Great Sports Make A Sport Great!" The tournament presents 3 sportsmanship awards each year.

DRAW SIZES, FORMATS & SCORING
The Boy's 10U division will play a 32 compass draw and the Girl's 10U a 16 compass draw using the green ball on a 78' court. No-ad scoring. Short-sets with first to 4 games (win by 2) with a 7-point tiebreaker to be played if games reach 4-all.
The 12U divisions will play a 32 draw with a feed-in consolation thru the round of 16 and the 14U Girls will p;lay a 64 draw with a feed-in consolation thru the round of 16 using the yellow ball on a 78' court. Regular scoring. Regular sets with a 7-point tiebreaker to be played if games reach 6-all. A 10-point tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
Players should expect 2 singles matches per day. All age divisions will play out in 3 days, weather permitting.
The Tournament Referee may change the scoring formats if there are scheduling or weather issues.

Tournament Rules
A 5-minute warm up is allowed for every match.
The USTA Rules and The Code govern play...refer to Friend At Court. The USTA Point Penalty System will be in effect and enforced. All infractions will be reported and result in suspension points.
USTA Certified officials will be at all sites.
Players who start the tournament are expected to complete all scheduled matches (including consolation and playoff) unless they are injured, ill or have a family emergency.
No coaching or interference from parents or coaches. Misbehavior or the demonstration of poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated and may result in disqualification.
Athletic trainers will be available during the tournament.
Please respect the facilities. Plase trash in containers and return chairs, etc. to their original location. If you see a problem with any facility (courts, restroom, grounds, etc.) please report it to the official there.
Dress Code: Proper (modest) tennis attire is required.
Cell Phones: Players' cell phones must be turned off prior to warm up. Talking on cell phones is not allowed on court except during breaks after the 2nd set. The ringer on cell phones belonging to parents and coaches must be turned off when in close proximity to the courts. Move away from the court when talking on a cell phone to avoid distracting the players or other spectators..

Warm Up Courts in Belton and Anderson
All courts in Belton are used for tournament play. Eight hard courts are available at the Anderson Sports & Entertainment Center, Jim Ed Rice BLVD, Anderson, SC 29621 are available any time, including after dark.

The Chick-fil-A Palmetto Championships has been played in
Belton, S. C. since 1957 and is South Carolina's highest level
closed junior tournament (Level 1 S. C. and Level 2 Southern).
Championships are determined in 5 age divisions for both boys and
girls in singles and doubles. The Palmetto is closed to
residents of South Carolina only.
ATTENTION Unfortunately due to a confirmed positive Covid-19 on site the city of Florence has closed the facility. As a result the tournament has been suspended until further notice. We are sorry but we had to make this decision in the interest of public health.

Players are selected manually by the tournament director after the close of registration.
Entry to this tournament is open to specified residents only. Entries must be submitted by Tuesday, June 30, 2020 11:59:00 PM Eastern Time. Only USTA members can register online if available.
