Thanks!!
Thanks to everyone for making the 51st Mountain View Open a success. If it weren't for everyone's cooperation, there is no way we would have completed this year's tournament. Starting with the players, who were so patient and understanding through the rain delays, and players who even helped to roll the courts; the officials who worked long days and were the first out there to help roll the courts; the volunteers who did a great job keeping things running smoothly, and again, rolling the courts; and friends, family, and fans who also lent their support, and yes, helped roll the courts! Hopefully, we don't see this much rain during the Mountain View Open again, but it's good to know that so many people are willing to help make it succeed regardless of the conditions! See you next year!

Sunday 5/26 update
8:46pm: Thanks for everyone's incredible patience and cooperation today. After too many rain delays and restarts, we finally finished most of the scheduled matches, except for one mixed semi and two men's doubles semis. Those are moved to tomorrow.
Order of play will be: 8:30am Men's singles semifinals 10am Women's singles final noon Men's singles final 12:30pm Mixed doubles semifinal 1pm Men's Doubles semifinals (if someone in the doubles is also in the singles final, that match will be delayed until after the singles final) 3:30pm Mixed Doubles final
---- 11:43am: We have several courts dry now, so if people check in, we can get matches started again.
---- 10:31am: Rain stopped, sun is out, we are rolling the courts dry. Play will not resume until noon. Will update if it gets pushed back further.
---- 10:07am: It started raining around 10am. All play is suspended for now. Over half of the 8am matches are completed. 8:00am: All courts are dry and ready for play and the forecast is getting better. Please check in early for your match if you can to get things. We are leaving the doubles times as is for now. Will keep you posted.
------- 725am: The courts were in better condition than expected. It sprinkled for a couple minutes a little while ago, but not enough to do damage. Courts are mostly dry already and will probably be ready to go close to 8am, so if both players check in by that time we should be able to get those matches started. Matches scheduled after 8am, please show up at your scheduled times. 8am matdhes won't be called until 8:30am, but we will get them on earlier if players are ready! The sun is out right now with some blue skies. Fingers crossed for the rest of the day!
----- 6:30am: It rained a little around 1am, so courts slightly wet. We will begin rolling courts soon, so start time delayed by half an hour. If any friends or family of players can help roll courts to get matches going as early as possible, it would be greatly appreciated!

Match times have been updated.
Update: Tueday 1:15pm All match times have been updated. Please take a look at your playing time. It may have changed due to the rescheduling of other matches. At least one player has caught a mistake already. So please let me know if you see anything that doesn't look right.
Thanks so much again for your patience. Hopefully the rain will stay away for the second weekend.
Thanks,
John.

New Match times will be posted by Tuesday morning
Hi everyone, I'm working on rescheduling all the rained out matches. I will post them by Tuesday morning. This affects everyone, even if you didn't have a match that got rained out, because some matches will get pushed to Saturday, pushing back the start times of some of the matches already scheduled on Saturday. So everyone needs to check their times. Thanks again for your patience. And thanks to the players and volunteers who help with rolling the courts over the weekend. It was a great help!

Sunday match updates
Update 5/19/2019 2:56pm
If you have schedule constraints for Friday (for people who had matches today) please let me know by email by tonight. If I don't hear from you, I will assume you are okay with any time on Friday. I will try to accommodate requests as much as possible within reason.. -------- Update 5/19/2019 12:42pm All matches for today are cancelled. Sorry for keeping everyone hanging. The sun is out again, but looks like just enough time to get the courts dry before rain starts again.
Please send me email (rather than text) letting me know your availability for Friday. I will do my best to accommodate your schedule within reason. If some people say 8am and others say 8pm, something has to give, so please be as flexible as possible. You can give preferred times along with times you absolutely can't make it. Late morning to the afternoon would be ideal so that we can accommodate people who have school or work.
If you have a specific question, feel free to text.
Also, during the tournament best to text me rather than calling the main number, which is our pro shop and they would have to come find me. Thanks everyone!
John.
Update 5/19/2019 11:55am We were almost ready to put matches on the courts again when it started raining again. So frustrating! Matches delayed at least 4 hours from posted times. Trying to make a call to decide if it's a washout for today in the next half hour to 45 minutes. Most likely the doubles matches will be pushed to next weekend. Everyone who was scheduled for a match today, please let me know what times you can make it on Friday. I will try to accommodate as best I can, but can't make any guarantees, but if you don't tell me, I can't do anything.
Thanks for the patience! Sorry to keep everyone hanging.
Thanks,
John.
----- Update 5/19/2019 9:57am All matches were set to go, but it started raining again! Delay is now 3 hours from posted time to give us time to dry courts.
We may move some of the later matches to next weekend. If you have a later match, please email me whether or not you can play Friday and what time. If we have to push some singles matches to Friday, we can add other matches as well. If we don't have to move the singles to Friday, then we wouldn't have other matches on Friday either. Please keep an eye here for more updates.
--------- Update 5/19/2019 9:28am Courts are drying nicely. The sun is out and we see blue sky. The rain stopped at 8am.
If you have a later match in the afternoon, please show up early, and we may be able to get you on earlier.
------ Update 5/19/2019 6:52am It looks like rain is stopping a little after 8am instead of 7am, so we are going with a 1 hour delay. So whatever your match time is for today, please add 1 hour to it!
Thanks,
John. ------------ Update 5/18/2019 8:35pm Okay, I've updated all of the match times. Please check your match time again to see if it has changed. Let me know ASAP if you see any mistakes. I had to manually schedule everything, so mistakes are definitely possible, although I checked it multiple times. I had to move a couple of matches to next weekend due to the possibility of someone having to play three matches if they kept winning. Thanks again for your patience, and hope for good weather tomorrow.
Tomorrow morning, feel free to text me on my cell phone at 650-346-3107 if you are unsure about the conditions. We will start rolling the courts dry as soon as it stops raining, hopefully by 7am. If you have any friends or family who can help get the courts dry, please have them see me. It will help us to get more courts into play. If we get more courts dry faster, we will be able to move up matches earlier.
If you were in the middle of your match when it started raining, you won't necessarily be on the same court tomorrow, especially if you were on a back court, since they take longer to dry. We will start play on the front courts.
Thanks,
John.
------- Update: If you were on the court and finished the first set, your match will start at 9am on Sunday. If your match was still in the first set, your match will start at 9:30am. We will work on getting enough courts dry to continue the first set of matches, then continue getting more courts dry as we go through the day. If your match was scheduled for Sunday already, it will probably get pushed back. I'm trying to complete the schedule changes by 8pm tonight. But I will post here when I'm done, so don't take anything you see as the final time until you see a post here saying I'm done. Note that because of interdependencies, some match times next weekend will be changed as well. Thanks!
----- All remaining Saturday matches have been rained out.
All matches that were on the court when rain started will be the first matches on court on Sunday. I will update the playing times this afternoon and post here on the tournament web site. Please keep checking for updates. I will post here again when scheduling is complete.
Thanks for your patience everyone! -- John Togasaki

Entries extended one day to Saturday, May 11.
The entry deadline has been extended one day to Saturday, May 11. Online entries will not be extended beyond this date because we need to get the draws made. Mixed doubles deadline is still Sunday, May 19, when the last match of the day ends, but any entries beyond the online deadline on May 11 will have to be done in person by check.
|
No matches on Friday, May 17
It looks like the weather will be good, so there will be no matches scheduled on Friday, May 17. As long as the weather is good on the first weekend, there will be no play on Friday, May 24 either. Friday, May 24, will only be used if we need to make up matches from the first weekend due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Concurrent Tournament Rule
A player shall not be entered at the time entries close in two or more USTA sanctioned tournaments scheduled to take place at the same time, in whole or in part, unless each Tournament Committee involved understands the situation, concurs in writing, and each agrees to accommodate the player’s schedule. The final decision rests with each tournament committee. If one tournament agrees to accept concurrent entries and accommodate the player's schedule but the concurrent tournament does not, the player may not enter both. If entries for the overlapping tournaments close on different dates, approval must be received from all Tournament Committees no later than the entry closing date that occurs last. Players who enter a tournament and play it to completion, may then enter another tournament with overlapping dates without permission. If a player violates this concurrent tournament rule ranking points earned in any concurrent tournament played will not count toward ranking or the Grand Prix Points Race and the concurrent tournaments will not count toward the minimum tournament requirement to qualify for Grand Prix.
|
Block Seeding
Block seeding will be used for the men's singles. If the women's singles starts the first weekend, it will be block seeded as well. Players who are block seeded will start on Saturday, May 25.
|
Doubles Registration
All Doubles registration must "INCLUDE" your partners name and USTA Number. Teams that fail to comply with this will not be included in the event. You can enter a max of two events, but if you are eliminated from one in the first weekend, you can enter the mixed by Sunday afternoon, May 19, but entries after the online deadline will have to be made in person, paid by check.

The draw limits are 164 for men's singles, 64 for women's singles, 64 teams for men's doubles, and 32 teams for mixed doubles. We have never had to turn away players due to the draw limits so far.

First Round Play
We will do everything in our power to avoid the two Fridays of the tournament. They are there in case of rain (or other factors) or if the draw size of the men's singles is larger than 100 players.
Men's Open Singles - If the draw is larger than 100, the first round may start as early as Friday, May 15, 2020. But if it is less than 100, it will start no earlier than Saturday, May 16, 2020. If their is a significant chance that there will be a lot of rain the second weekend, we may start matches on Friday, May 15 even if the draw isn't over 100.
Women's Open Singles - will start no earlier than Sunday, May 17, 2020.
Men's Open Doubles - will start no earlier than Saturday, May 16, 2020.
Mixed Open Doubles - will start no earlier than Saturday, May 23.
