Unsanctioned TournamentThis tournament is not sanctioned and will not count for ranking by the governing organization.
Notes
USTA Texas along with the TAP Foundation will be presenting the
TAP World Tour. Stand Up Tennis is a way of playing tennis for
people with different types of physical disabilities who are able
to play standing with some adjustments depending on the mobility of
the player. People with amputations, hemiplegics, hemi paralysis,
congenital malformation and cerebral palsy may participate. All new
players to the TAP tour will be evaluated to determine which
classification and assigned a category. Players are not classified
by pathology or medical diagnosis since there are many physical
disabilities, some players will display the same physical condition
but we know that each person is affected in a very different and
individual way, we also rely on functional criteria, which is what
is being done in adapted sports for years. The events are Mens
Singles and Womens Singles and after the player is classified they
will be put into the following categories. Men and Women will be
combined if not enough entries.
Categories-
A1: Players with optimal functional mobility with impairment
below the knee or motor impairment of one upper limb. E.g. a player
who has an amputation or other disability below the knee or a
player who has an amputation of one arm at joint level or who
displays a congenital malformation in one arm.
A: Players with optimal functional mobility with impairment
above the knee of one or both lower extremities and with or without
alterations in one or two upper extremities. E.g amputation above
the knee, hemiplegic, hemiparesis, congenital malformation and
cerebral palsy.
B: Players with intermediate functional mobility that can
play on a 60 foot tennis court with a orange ball.
C: Players with a functional disability that can play on a
36 foot court with a red ball.
