SPORTSMANSHIP WINNER: LOREN BAUGH!
Congratulations to Loren Baugh, B16 Lincoln, of Highland Village, for being selected to receive the Arlington Tennis Center Challenger 2-Day Sportsmanship Award! Loren will receive a free camp scholarship to John Newcombe's Tennis Ranch. Loren's behavior on and off court was outstanding, and his attitude toward his opponents, his own game, officials and tournament staff was appreciative and respectful. Congratulations, Loren!
Note: Loren's mom was also great! She was removed from matches, stayed away from the tournament desk, and was even seen picking up trash from the grounds to throw away. Apples don't fall far from the tree!

PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT
WINNER GETS A FREE HIGH PERFORMANCE TENNIS
RACQUET AND BAG!
As a SPECIAL
treat for our Challenger players, Arlington Tennis Center is hosting a PHOTO
SCAVENGER HUNT for tournament players! How it works: ~Set up an Instagram account, if you don’t
already have one. ~Take pictures of yourself in front of or in at
least eight of the 12 locations listed below in “Rules,” and upload them to
your Instagram account with the hashtag: #atc2016challenger ~Winner will have his/her choice of one of three high
performance tennis racquets/tennis bag combinations! ~See “Rules” and “Info” below for more details.
~Have fun,
and get snapping those pictures!
RULES ~Be safe. Never compromise your safety (e.g.,
stopping in traffic, or illegally crossing a street) to take a photo. No game is
worth risking your personal safety, or that of others. ~Set up an Instagram account, if you do not
already have one. ~Email atc@arlingtontx.gov for instructions if you are unsure how to set up an Instagram account. ~The profile must be public. If you do not wish
to make your existing Instagram account pubic, you can set up a temporary
account and delete at the conclusion of the contest. Email ATC for instructions
if you are unsure how to do it. ~The account must have the player’s name in the
account name so the player is identifiable by name. ~Visit at least eight of the 12 locations listed
below, take your picture either in front of the destination, or inside it (if
it is an establishment), and post it to your Instagram account with the
hashtag: #atc2016challenger ~The picture can be a selfie, or one that someone
takes of you. ~Pictures for Globe Life (Rangers) Park and
AT&T (Cowboys) Stadium are acceptable as long as the Park/Stadium are
clearly visible in the immediate background. ~Pictures of establishments (e.g., McAlister’s
Deli) must include the name of the establishment for verification. ~Pictures must be taken within the designated
timeframe: Saturday, May 14, 6:00 AM – 5:00 PM. ~One post per player. For example, if two players
are friends, and they want to take one picture for both of them, they must EACH
post the photo to separate Instagram accounts.
WINNER ~The winner must have posted at least eight
scavenger hunt photos on his/her Instagram account. ~If more than one person successfully completes
the scavenger photo hunt with eight photos posted, all those players’ names
will be placed in a pool. One winner’s name will be drawn by the designated
tournament staff person. ~Players who post MORE than eight photos will
slide into first consideration for the win, so posting photos at nine, 10, 11
or all 12 locations increases the chance to be the winner! ~If more than one player posts ‘extra credit’
photos noted above, any players tied with the highest number of photos will
have their names placed in a pool, and one player’s name will be drawn by the
designated staff person. ~The winner’s name will be posted on the ATC Facebook
page no later than 7:00 PM on Saturday, May 14. ~Do not call the proshop or ask tournament staff for
the winner’s name. You must visit ATC’s Facebook page to learn the identity
of the official winner. ~The winner of the scavenger photo hunt will
choose between one of three performance racquet/tennis bag combinations. ~Racquet must be claimed on Saturday evening
before 8:00 PM, or on Sunday, May 15, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
SCAVENGER HUNT LOCATIONS WILL ARE LISTED ON
THE ATC FACEBOOK PAGE AFTER 7:00 PM SATURDAY!

All players are to read the Player Oath aloud to the site director(s), prior to their first match each day, and sign the form indicating the player has read, stated and understands the Player Oath. The Player Oath will be available at all sites:I recognize that tennis is a sport that places the responsibility for fair play on me. I promise to abide by the rules of the game, which require me to give the benefit of the doubt to my opponent. At all times, I shall strive to compete with the true spirit of sportsmanship, recognizing that my behavior on the court is a direct reflection of my character. Whether my matches end with my victory or defeat, I promise to conduct myself in a way that honors my opponents, those who support me and the game of tennis.

SPECTATOR POLICY
ATTENTION ALL SPECTATORS (INCLUDES PARENTS, COACHES, RELATIVES, FRIENDS, ETC.): In an effort to promote a more enjoyable and fair experience for all, the following policy is in immediate force and effect, and shall be diligently and stringently enforced. USTA Texas has implemented a “ZERO TOLERANCE” policy for improper behavior.1. Any attempt by a spectator to speak to the official in an abusive or disrespectful manner regarding a line call or other ruling during match play shall be cause for immediate removal from the playing area and, if warranted, from the premises.2. Any spectator behavior deemed unacceptable towards a player, other spectator or staff member shall be cause for immediate removal from the playing area or the entire premises. If said behavior is directed towards a player, either before, during or after a tournament, it shall result in an automatic and immediate suspension of that spectator’s right to attend USTA Texas tournaments, for a period of time to be determined by the USTA Texas Discipline and Grievance Committee.3. Refusal to adhere to a removal request shall trigger immediate enforcement of the point penalty system against the player with whom the spectator is involved (per point penalty system regulations), including possible immediate default from the tournament.4. The On-Site Official is the SOLE judge regarding unacceptable behavior. Inappropriate umpire/spectator communication, whether it be about a ruling or any other facet of a tennis event is prohibited while a match is in progress. Being a parent, coach, etc. does not endow special privileges. With the only exception of the right to remove their own child from competition at any time, a parent or coach is merely a spectator.
|
EXCESSIVE OVERRULE
The USTA Texas Officials Committee, along with the Competitive Department, has established a guideline in reference to excessive overrules as clarified in the Friend at Court. FIRST OFF CONSOLATION (FOC)
All Challengers (all age divisions) use the First Off Consolation Format. This format will show as Single Elimination for the main draws on the tournament homepage, but all players are guaranteed two matches. This format eliminates most “maybe/if matches” and almost every player in consolation will play their first consolation match on Saturday. How does it work? Players that lose in the main draw will be fed into the consolation draw in the order that they come off the court .This new format ensures more players playing on Saturday.

25". BE PREPARED! Arrive on time and with the right-sized racquet to avoid
being disqualified from your match! By USTA Texas regulation, ORANGE

SPORTSMANSHIP AMBASSADORS
USTA Texas tournaments utilize Sports Ambassadors to assist in identifying both outstanding and poor sportsmanship displayed by players and / or persons associated with players. Sports Ambassadors are not easily identifiable, as they will appear to be regular spectators. However, their observations carry great weight with regard to issues (good or bad) reported to the Section.
|
COURT MONITORS
Court monitors may be used at some sites, and with some divisions (such as 10s) to assist players, as well as assist officials in monitoring aspects of the tournaments. Court monitors may time warm-ups, call foot faults, over rule bad calls (balls called out that were in) and stop play to secure a USTA official if a situation warrants action through the point penalty system.
