SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD!!!
The Tournament Committee had the privilege of identifying individuals that we thought deserved extra recognition for outstanding sportsmanship. It was a tough decision as all of the players competed with grace and heart! But in the end two players stand to receive the Sportsmanship Award…

LETTER TO THE PLAYERS
To the Participants of the 2014 USTA National Selection Tournament
@ Alpine Hills Tennis and Swimming Club on May 24-26, 2014:
Thank you all for entering the tournament and congratulations on
being selected. I have included below some specific information and
deadlines for the tournament.
USTA RELEASE & WAIVER FORM:
All players are required to submit a signed USTA Release &
Waiver Form before competing in the tournament. I'd appreciate it
very much if you could please complete this and return the form to
me by email or fax by Friday, May 16, 2014. The Fax number is (650)
851-1759. It would save me a lot of trouble to get the forms in
advance than trying to get them from everyone on the day of the
tournament before check-in.
DOUBLES:
The deadline to sign up for doubles is Saturday, May 24, 2014 at
10am. If you are playing with a partner both of you must email me
to confirm that you are indeed playing with each other. An email
with your partner copied will work too! This will limit any
confusion. When I get this email I will place you both in the draw.
If you are an alternate please do not email me your doubles
selection until you are in the main draw. Send your emails to
ogidi@alpinehills.us with the subject heading of 2014 USTA NST
doubles draw.
If you signed up for doubles but did not list a partner when
singles entries closed, you were removed from doubles. This
prevents situations where players are signed up for doubles by
their parents without their knowledge and then withdrawing later
after the draws have been made because their player doesn't want to
play doubles.
If you would like to play doubles but do not have a
doubles partner, please let me know via email and you will be added
in doubles. It is not the responsibility of the Tournament
Committee to match a player with a partner, but we will do our best
to help pair as many players as possible.

LODGING:
Alpine Hills is located in Portola Valley. There are not many
hotels in the town of Portola Valley itself. The best area to look
for hotels is in Palo Alto, around Stanford University, or in Menlo
Park. Both Palo Alto and Menlo Park offer an abundance of lodging
choices, ranging from B&Bs and motels to luxury hotels. Below
are some resources that may help with your search for lodging. In
most cases Alpine Hills is no more than 20 minutes from both
areas.
Local Lodging List
Stanford's Lodging Guide is based on proximity to campus and
includes website links, rates, and contact information.
Destination Palo Alto
Other helpful lodging information is available at Destination Palo
Alto.
AIRPORTS:
Three major airports serve the San Francisco Bay Area, including
San Francisco International (SFO), San Jose Norman Mineta
International (SJC), and Oakland International (OAK). We suggest
comparing fares to all three airports, as there can be significant
differences, even for the same airline.
Alpine Hills is roughly
equidistant from the San Francisco and San Jose airports. The most
convenient in terms of travel is San Francisco. Both airports are
about 30 minutes away. Although San Francisco is the largest of the
three area airports and offers the most airlines and flights, some
visitors find that San Jose's smaller size makes it a somewhat more
convenient alternative, especially for domestic flights. The
Oakland airport is 45 minutes to an hour away but sometimes has
cheaper flights than the airports in San Francisco and San
Jose.

MEMORIAL DAY
For you travel arrangements I just wanted players to know that
matches may go on until later in the afternoon on Monday. Please
make your travel plans accordingly.
That is all for now. Please let me know if you have any questions.
We are looking forward a great tournament this year and to seeing
you all on the courts!!!
Best,
Ogidi
