WELCOME TO THE 2012 INTERMOUNTAIN SNOWBALL SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, in partnership with the Utah Sports Commission. We are looking forward to fabulous tennis matches and are excited to once again host this great event!

Mandatory player check-in is required Friday, January 13th, and will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. This year the draw is limited to the top 48 players that apply in each division. Alternates will be on site hoping for a chance to get into the draws. Check-in will take place at the Crystal Inn - located at 818 East Winchester Street, Murray. FINAL DRAWS AND MATCH LOCATIONS WILL BE GIVEN OUT AT THIS TIME!!!

UNTIL CHECK-IN, CHANGES IN THE DRAW CAN AND OFTEN DO OCCUR!!! Many draws will change as people drop out of events and are replaced by alternates. The draws are not final until you see the draws that are given out at check-in!!! The Utah Tennis Association office will be closed for the Holiday from 4:30 PM on Friday, January 13th, until 9:00 AM on Tuesday, January 17th. Draw information will not be available over the phone. Matches will start at 8:00 AM on Saturday, January 14th.

If any one singles division has more than 48 players applying, acceptance will be based on the most recent ITA Standings List for that particular division draw. The top 48 players APPLYING - ONLINE, ON TIME - will be accepted. Players registering online and receiving a confirmation number are NOT guaranteed acceptance - this is only confirmation that registration was performed correctly. Due to the size of this event and the number of people coming from out of state, time avoidances are not available. I will publish the accepted competitors list on Friday afternoon, December 16th.

Salt Lake Swim & Tennis Club will host a pre-Snowball Tournament warm-up and match play on January 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. This workout will be limited to 40 total participants. The cost is $30.00 per person. Please call (801) 487-3206 to register.

SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN TO ONE BOY AND ONE GIRL FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING BEHAVIOR BOTH ON AND OFF OF THE COURT. A SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO ONE PARENT FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING BEHAVIOR DURING THE TOURNAMENT.

INTERMOUNTAIN SEEDING PROTOCOL - Seeding for all of the Intermountain Tournaments (Circuits and Sectionals) will be taken straight off of the current ITA Standing's Lists except if there is an exceptional player aging or playing up. An exceptional player is defined as a player listed in the top 100 of the most current National Standings List in the lower age division. This exceptional player will be CONSIDERED for seeding. DOUBLES SEEDS will be taken directly from the most recent ITA Individual Doubles Standings Lists. Partners ranks will be averaged and seeded accordingly. Consideration for seeding will be given for exceptional doubles teams, which are teams comprised of players who are ranked in the top 100 of the Combined National Standings in the lower age group. AS SHOWN ON PAGE 71 IN FRIEND AT COURT - Number of seeds. The number of players seeded shall equal a power of two (for example, 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32). The maximum ratio of players seeded shall be one in three, except that any draw may have two seeds.

SINGLES - All singles matches will be the best 2 out of 3 sets with a 7 Point Tiebreak at 6 games all. Singles will be a 48 draw, with a full feed-in consolation. DOUBLES - 8 game prosets until the Finals. Finals will be the best 2 out of 3 sets with a 7 Point Tiebreak at 6 games all. Doubles will be single elimination.

IF YOU ARE PLAYING DOUBLES, YOU MUST SIGN UP ONLINE WITH YOUR PARTNER. THERE WILL BE NO DOUBLES REGISTRATION AT CHECK-IN! PLEASE REGISTER BY THE DECEMBER 14th DEADLINE. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PLAY DOUBLES BUT DO NOT HAVE A PARTNER, YOU MAY CONTACT ME AT (801) 944-8782 X13 PRIOR TO THE DECEMBER 14th DEADLINE AND I WILL DO MY BEST TO PAIR YOU UP WITH A PARTNER. NO DOUBLES ENTRIES OR PARTNER REQUESTS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER DECEMBER 19th DUE TO THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY, THE NEW YEAR'S HOLIDAY AND I WILL BE ATTENDING A NATIONAL TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR WORKSHOP PRIOR TO THE TOURNAMENT. You must play in the same age division as you are playing singles. Your partner MUST be in the same age group as you. For example, if you are playing in the Boy's 14's singles division, your partner cannot be playing in the Boy's 16's singles division. Unfortunately those types of requests cannot be accomodated due to the potential scheduling conflicts. The doubles format will be 8 game pro-sets, single elimination up until the finals. The final matches will best 2 out of 3 sets, regular scoring, with a 7 Poing Tiebreak at 6 games all. The doubles event is very important especially for those players who are interested in playing college tennis. Due to the decision to cut the ITA Snowball Sectional down to 4 days of play, we will not be able to play 2 or 3 rounds of doubles on the Friday of registration this year. DOUBLES MATCHES WILL BEGIN ON SATURDAY AND DOUBLES FINALS WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 17th.

GIRL'S 18's matches will be played at the Sports Mall - located at 5445 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. BOY'S AND GIRL'S 16's matches will be played at the Salt Lake Tennis Club - located at 2471 South 1700 East, Salt Lake City. All Boy's and Girl's 16's matches to be played on Tuesday, January 17th, will be played at the Sports Mall - located at 5445 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. BOY'S 14's matches will be played at 2 locations, Coach Mike's Tennis Academy - located at 1216 South Wasatch Drive, Salt Lake City, matches will also be played at Liberty Park - the entrance to Liberty Park is located at 650 East 900 South, Salt Lake City. All Boy's 14's matches to be played on Tuesday, January 17th, will be played at the Salt Lake Tennis Club - located at 2471 South 1700 East, Salt Lake City. All 18's and 16's matches to be played on Tuesday, January 17th, will be played at the Sports Mall - located at 5445 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. All 14's and 12's matches to be played on Tuesday, January 17th, will be played at the Salt Lake Tennis Club - located at 2471 South 1700 East, Salt Lake City. The order of play for the final day will be: Consolation Quarterfinals, Main Draw Finals, Main Draw 3rd and 4th Playoffs, Consolation Semifinals and then Doubles Finals. Please note that the Consolation Finals will not be played.

Play will be subject to the rules of the USTA. The USTA Point Penalty System will be enforced throughout the tournament. NO UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT WILL BE TOLERATED!!! USTA Certified Umpires will be present at all playing locations.

All Tennis Players will be required to wear appropriate tennis attire and dress in a manner consistant with the facilities expectations as well as the expectations of a participant in the ITA Snowball Sectional Championships. Guys - no tank tops or very low riding shorts. Ladies - top and skirt should touch when checking in for your match. Questionable attire is subject to the Site Director's discretion.

We are expecting very frigid temperatures here in Utah during this tournament. Matches will be played in bubbles at several of the tournament sites. The temperatures inside of the bubbles are fine for the players, but are cold for the spectators. Please - IF YOU WILL BE WATCHING A MATCH IN A BUBBLE - PLAN ON BRINGING A WARM COAT, BLANKET ETC.!!!

There will be a Video Taping Permission Form available at the tournament desk. Parents or guardians of tournament participants will need to fill this form out in order to be able to video tape anything that will include the other player. This form will require a parent or guardians consent and signature to allow video taping of the full court match. You of course can always video tape your own player, but for the protection of the other minor player, you will need to fill out the form prior to video taping anything that will include the other player.

Please obey all rules and policies for the hotel and tennis venues. Anyone involved in any questionable conduct at guest facilities will be defaulted from the tournament. Please be respectful of others, be courteous to tournament staff and volunteers - an occasional thank you goes a long way! Please help to keep the tournament sites clean by picking up your trash on the grounds and courts. THANK YOU!!!

The holiday weekend is a very crowded ski weekend and hotel rooms are normally filled to capacity with skiers. Please book your hotel rooms now! After the cut-off dates, and if the hotels still have rooms available, it will be at the full rate on a space-available basis.

The Tournament Host Hotel is the CRYSTAL INN. The CRYSTAL INN is located at 818 East Winchester Street, Murray. REGISTRATION WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE CRYSTAL INN. This hotel is right off of I-215. It is the closest hotel to the Sports Mall and Cottonwood Country Club, and has easy access to Salt Lake Tennis Club and Coach Mike's Tennis Academy. This hotel also has easy access to the belt route for quick driving times to the other tournament sites. The hotel offers a very nice complimentary full hot breakfast buffet and light dinner, free airport shuttle, free high speed wireless internet, free morning paper, an indoor swimming pool and hot tub, an exercise facility, and in-room microwaves and refrigerators. Room Rates are $89.99/night, plus tax. Rate valid for room with 2 Queen beds, or 1 King bed with a pull out sofa sleeper - all non-smoking. If arriving before the tournament dates or stying longer, the rate will be honored for consecutive nights stay. The reservation cut-off date is December 31, 2011. Parking Notice: Please park in the parking lot directly East and across the road from the Eccles Tennis Center. There will be a $1.00 fee for the parking meter that will be good for all day. There is also parking along the street adjacent to the facility, the parking meters along the street need to be fed every 2 hours.

The HAMPTON INN is located at 3576 North Maple Loop, Lehi. It is the closest hotel to the Ivory Ridge Tennis Club. They offer a nice complimentary continental breakfast with 2 to 3 hot items daily. Also offered is free high-speed internet access, microwaves, mini refrigerators and an indoor swimming pool and exercise room. They are located very close to Thanksgiving Point, the Dinosaur Museum, IKEA and Caabela's. They are also next door to JCW's - my favorite hamburger place! Room rates are $75.00 plus tax per night for a Double Queen - non-smoking room. The reservation cut-off date is January 1, 2012. The COTTONTREE INN is located at 1030 North 400 East, North Salt Lake, just off of I-15. This is the closest hotel to the Eagleridge Tennis Club. The CottonTree offers a full hot breakfast that includes a self serve waffle bar, eggs and sausage or biscuits and gravy, assorted bagels and cream cheese, juices, hot chocolate, coffee and tea. They also offer a complimentary airport shuttle, an indoor swimmming pool and hot tub, and free high-speed wireless internet access. Room rates are $75.00 plus tax per night for a Double Queen non-smoking room. The reservation cut-off date is December 30, 2011.
