2/28/19 IMPORTANT UPDATES
We have been working very hard preparing for this event. We are very excited to have you here in Mobile, Alabama. We hope you enjoy your stay and get to experience a little bit of Mardi Gras. Below are the a few of the hot topics you are thinking about and we would like to put you mind at ease:
Player Handbook - a link is provided above to the Player Handbook which has the itinerary and other important information.
Practice Courts Thursday and Friday - There will be 48 open courts for practice at no charge, first come-first serve. We do not take reservations on these days. Thursday all day and Friday morning, please check in at the desk and ask what court you should go to.
Mandatory Registration Friday 5:00-8:00 pm central time - The website is very clear about the mandatory registration. No one is given permission to miss the mandatory registration. Some of you may run into flight delays. Should you run into difficulties, you must text me your location at 8:00 pm Friday night. I will have onsite alternates wanting the spots of people who did not make it to check in. It will be difficult to turn away those alternates if I do not know your exact whereabouts at 8:00 pm. This tournament is different than any other event you play in, This tournament is a team event and the making of the teams is dependent on the physical presence of the individuals. To make sure these teams are equally balanced based on the national rankings, it is imperative players are here and we are not just hoping they will show up. This is not just about you, it is about all the teams. For some of you this will be your first experience realizing the team comes first. We have a responsibility to all the players to make sure their team is as balanced as the next and we take that very seriously. The number to text is 251-510-0113.
Uniforms - Nike has helped provide the uniforms again this year. We do our best to provide you with the size you requested. You will receive your shirts at check in. If your shirts do not fit, bring them to practice Saturday morning. In your team meeting, your coach will ask if anyone needs to exchange sizes. Check with your teammates first. If there is no one on the team to exchange with, we may have some at the desk to exchange. Also, we provided the shirts and colors in a link on the tournament homepage a couple of weeks ago. If you are concerned about the shirts, bring something or your own similar in color so you will match the team.
Communication - everything will be posted on the tournament homepage. If you have any concerns or questions, please email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Once you are assigned to a team, all communication will go through your Coach. Make sure your coach has your contact information. It will be difficult for the tournament staff to answer phone calls or return voice messages. Some texts can be answered. The numbers to text are 251-510-0113 or 251-610-0483. Do not call any other numbers. Weather information will be posted on the website and communicated through your coach, so there is no need for you to text, call or email about weather. We are also using the Match Tennis APP to communicate so you can register below to get those notifications.
Weather - The weather forecasts have be very inaccurate for the last two months. We are keeping a very close eye on the weather and know our climate and courts very well. As I am typing this, I realized it was supposed to rain all day but I am looking at dry courts. We do have permission to start matches on Saturday if necessary (which is why we have to enforce the mandatory check in). Saturday and Sunday will be the two days we have to watch and make decisions hourly. Check the website and communicate with your coach. Please be patient with us, we post weather information very quickly once we make a decision. We also will text the coaches for them to communicate with you. There is a cold front moving in Sunday which is the reason for the potential rain. Monday through Wednesday should be DRY but cold, so pack warm clothes.
*** IMPORTANT to ALL PLAYERS*** MATCH TENNIS APP

On the voicemail, you can leave your credit card number, expiration date, CVV code on the back of card, and the zip code of the billing address. I will text you once the card has been processed and then delete the voicemail. We do not keep any written card information. I promise your card information will be safe and secure.
Friday night, there will be a list at registration for Onsite Alternates to register and provide contact information. Please check in and give your age division and phone number(s). With the Friday mandatory check in, there is a chance of last minute openings.
PLEASE BOOK HOTELS NOW!!!
This tournament has fallen on Mardi Gras weekend in Mobile. Mardi Gras is a busy time and the downtown hotels will all be full. The hotels we have listed have rooms reserved for us but you need to book early to ensure you have a place to stay.
TOURNAMENT ADMINISTRATION:This is a unique event in that it is a team format with individual registration. Because of that, the tournament software is not capable of providing the usual formats for displaying Selection Lists and Alternates Lists by division. We have to go to a lot of extra work to create and post the reports you expect to see. The first few days after selections are made, we will be diligently working on this; so please be patient with us. Selections were finalized Friday afternoon and we are now creating the reports you expect to see. If you are wanting to see the order of alternates, please see section below regarding the Ordered Alternates in the Section titled Tournament Registration and Selection Process.
Below are a few items of importance. Please scroll through the entire website as most of your questions can be answered here.

TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION AND SELECTION PROCESS
This site is hosting the USTA National Spring Team Championships for Boys’ and Girls' 18, 16 and 14 Divisions
ELIGIBILITY:Amateur players who meet the U.S. citizenship or residency requirements (see Section 4), the USTA age eligibility requirements, and membership requirements (current USTA membership) may enter.
The entry deadline for the USTA National Spring Team Championships is Thursday, February 07, 2019 11:59 AM (Eastern Time). This is one minute before NOON EASTERN TIME; it will still be daylight when registration closes. The selection process starts immediately once registration closes, so it is not possible to add late entries to the selection process even if you missed the deadline by a few minutes. It is also not possible to withdraw you during the automated selection process. You will be charged if selected.
Players must enter using TennisLink.
When tournaments are asked to give prior written approval to enter the USTA National Spring Team Championships and a concurrent tournament, that discretion continues to lie with the tournament. This tournament will not approve concurrent entries.
TOURNAMENT SELECTION AND ALTERNATES:
Separate USTA National Spring Team Championships shall be held for boys and girls. The TennisLink selection system shall accept 32 players from each division (BG 18-14) into the draw as follows:
• Up to 4 wild cards using the same process established for USTA National Championships (See Wildcards section below). Wildcards will not be selected during the automated process. Wildcards will be selected at a later date. It will appear there are openings for alternates, but we cannot fill these spots until the wildcard decisions are made.
• The remaining players from most recently published National Standings List from each age division, provided they have submitted timely entries, in the order in which their names appear.
Online Notification: Main draw players and alternates can view lists published to the TennisLink Tournament Home Page no later than 3 days after the entries close. All players accepted by the TennisLink system will be sent a confirmation email that includes as part of the text of the email the USTA Release and Waiver Form (please email, email@example.com or fax, (251) 208-5195, in this completed waiver). Any accepted player whose credit card was unable to be charged will also be sent an email notifying them of the problem with the credit card and instructing them to contact the tournament to make arrangements for payment.
Ordered Alternate List. The Tournament Committee shall prepare an alternate list for each division of those players with timely entries not accepted into the draw in the order in which their names appear on the same National Standings List used to accept players into the draw. Late entrants shall be placed on the alternate list in the order received after timely entries. Late entries received at the same time shall be ordered by lot.
The Alternate List will be published to the TennisLink Tournament Home Page as soon as possible and no later than 5 days after entries close. The order of players on an Alternate List is NOT to be changed if a new National Standings List is published. Before this list is published, you can see your order by going to the "Selection Process" tab and selecting your division. Find the first yellow dot and count down until you find your name, that is your order number.
On-Site Alternates. On-site alternates are those players on the alternate list who have come to the tournament site to be a last-minute replacement for a withdrawing player. The Tournament Committee shall establish a procedure for checking in on-site alternates and instruct players on the tournament website. The procedure shall include the following:
• On each day in which alternates may be accepted into a draw, any alternate desiring admittance must check in and be ready for play no later than 15 minutes prior to the first scheduled match time of the event for which they are an alternate.
• The order of the alternates is based on the original Alternate List published by the tournament, not a more recent National Standings List, and not in the order in which the players check in.
On-Site Alternates may be admitted into the tournament to fill in for a player unable to play a match. The original player if able may continue in the original spot on the team in subsequent matches. If the player is withdrawing from the tournament and not just a match, the onsite alternate will stay in that spot on the team.
This is a unique event in that it is a team format with individual registration. Because of that, the tournament software is not capable of providing the usual formats for displaying Selection Lists and Alternates Lists by division. We have to go to a lot of extra work to create and post the reports you expect to see. The first few days after selections are made, we will be diligently working on this; so please be patient with us.
Email is the preferred and most times only method of accepted communication. Emails are answered in the order received. If you send more than one email on the same subject, you will get responses to all emails in order. When emailing, always expect a response. That is your confirmation your email has been received and any necessary actions will be taken. If your email prompts a change that should be seen online, just know all changes require multiple steps as well as removal and uploading of reports. Usually, the response to email is made after the action has been taken on our end. While we are capable of making mistakes, give us 24 hours before you expect to see it online. If you do not see the change within a couple of days, please email and if necessary call.

Court Assignments: The team matches shall have 6 assigned courts in close proximity to ensure accessibility for the Coaches. The Officials will have the balls. Matches shall start with doubles and follow with singles. All doubles matches will be chaired. Most singles matches will be roved. MANDATORY TOURNAMENT CHECK IN:
ALL PLAYERS MUST BE PHYSICALLY ON SITE AT THE MOBILE TENNIS CENTER BY 8:00 PM FRIDAY, MARCH 1st, IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON A TEAM. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS!
In theory, the tournament schedule is to have a practice day and matches start on Sunday. We now have the flexibility to start matches earlier if it looks like weather might be an issue. In order to start matches early, possibly even Saturday morning, players have to be here Friday night. There will be no exceptions to this Mandatory Check In. We understand some of you might have weather delays in your area preventing you from getting here on time. We strongly suggest you make your travel plans with delays in mind. If we have onsite alternates or alternates within driving distance (three hours or less); we will not be able to save a spot for you because the team is dependent on all positions. You should make your plans with the Friday Mandatory checkin time as your guide.
ALTERNATES - We strongly suggest you pay close attention to your position on the alternates list. If you can come on a moments notice, please email the tournament director of your availability. If you are the first or second alternate, you may want to consider being onsite close to the end of mandatory registration. No matter where you are on the alternates list, if you are in driving distance, you may want to be onsite close to the end of mandatory registration. Any open spots at 8:00 pm will first go to an onsite alternate based on where they fall on the alternates list if more than one is present. If there are no onsite alternates, we will start calling alternates in order from the list.
