Northeast Atlanta (Lawrenceville) established dominance over North Atlanta (Alpharetta) as top seed, Grace Min, out-dueled 2nd seeded Whitney Kay, 6-4; 6-3 in the singles final.
Lauren Davis of of Gate Mill, OH took home 3rd place and the Midwest crown with a 6-0;6-2 win over Monica Turewicz of Lake Forest, IL.
In another sectional showdown Kaitlin Ray of Little Rock, AR captured the consolation title in a 7-5;6-3 two-hour slugfest with Katherine White of Columbus, GA.

Many, many players deserved this award. Unfortunately, we only had one to give. Congratulations to Kaitlyn, who was outstanding, and all those who displayed exemplary sportsmanship during this championship.

Musical Trivia winners
Jerry Pape was the first to get 50 points for identifying OKLAHOMA as the musical from which the line "There's a bright golden haze on the meadow" came.
Jim Askren, an umpire, also was awarded 50 points.
Bill Ozaki called from North Carolina to collect his 50 points. However, it was probably Sandy Hastings who actually gave him the answer.
Bill was the first to be offered the 25 point bonus question (What is the next line in the song?)
Sandy could be heard in the background giving him the answer.
Casey Chapin earned both 50 points and the 25 bonus points (with no help from Sandy).
o Shimizu answered the "double your points" fill-in-the-blank question: "Poor Jud, he's DEAD, a candle lights his head..."

Because of the 192-draw format, no player will be eliminated from singles until sometime on Monday. We suggest that you make hotel reservations for the longest stay that you can imagine. On-site Alternates
If you are not admitted prior to check-in on Friday, you may: 1) be an on-site alternate for singles play on Saturday 2) be an on-site alternate for singles on Sunday 3) play doubles (whether or not you play singles). On-site alternates should check-in at the main tournament desk prior to play on Saturday morning. Alternates are welcome to check-in on Friday and be part of all of the activities.

Contestants playing singles on Saturday must register on Friday, August 3, at the Peachtree City Tennis Center between 3:00 and 4:30 PM. Tournament packets and tee shirts will be distributed. Players not playing singles until Sunday may register on Saturday, or prior to playing doubles. The players' meeting will be held at 5:00. A group picture will be taken with players in tournament t-shirts. After the meeting southern hydration fruit will be served. (For the less-sophisticated, that means "We're havin' watermelon.")

Doubles entries close at 6:00 PM on Friday, August 3. If you don't have a partner, siign up on-site and indicate that you "need partner" Two rounds of doubles will be scheduled for Saturday, so everyone should plan to play on Saturday.

Scoring Formats
Main Draw Singles and Doubles will play the best of 3 sets. Singles Consolations will play 2 sets with a deciding match tiebreak (first to 10 by 2) in lieu of a 3rd set, when 2 consolation rounds are scheduled the same day.

Practice courts at a flat tournament rate will be available at Peachtree City Tennis Center on any day prior to the event. Reservations can be made by calling 770-486-9474 extension 0. After play begins on Saturday at 8am, other courts should available nearby. See the Hospitality Desk for directions.

Directions southbound from Atlanta and Atlanta Airport
The Girls' 14 National Championships will be held at Peachtree City Tennis Center, located SW of Atlanta. GoodSports and Peachtree City Tennis Center are at the intersection of Hwy 54 and Planterra Way.
From Atlanta, I-285, I-75, or I-20, take I-85 south to exit 61 (Fairburn/Peachtree City, Hwy 74).
Turn left (south) onto GA Hwy 74 and go approx. 11 miles to GA Hwy 54.
(It is the first traffic light past the overhead golf cart bridge with an American Flag on it.)
Turn Right on Hwy 54 and go to 3rd traffic light (Planterra Way).
If you turn left at the light, the Tennis Center is on the left.

Directions from Florida (adventuresome?, much shorter than Interstates )
Take I-75 northbound to exit # 205 (GA Hwy 16).
Turn left (west toward Griffin).
Go approximately 24 miles.
You will see a sign "Digby, unincorporated".
On the left will be Pike Academy. Just past that will be a Petro Station on the left .
Turn Right at the Petro station onto Hwy 85 Connector.
Stay on Hwy 85 Connector through Brooks approximately 8 miles to the deadend (at Hwy GA 85).
Turn left on GA Hwy 85 and go less than 1/2 mile to the first traffic light.
Turn right at the light onto GA Hwy 74.
Go approximatel 7 miles to the intersection with GA Hwy 54 (The Avenue will be on your left.)
Turn left onto Hwy 54.
Go to the 3rd traffic light (less than 1/2 mile).
Turn left at light onto Planterra Way.
The tennis Center will be on your left.

From Tennis Center turn left onto Hwy 54 and Go 1 mile to the 2nd traffic light.

Summit YMCA will be on the left. It will be at the top of a hill adjoining Summit Healthplex.

Players' Meeting
There is a mandatory players' meeting on Friday, August 3 at the Peachtree City Tennis Center at 5:00 p.m. Families and coaches of players are encouraged to attend. Following the meeting we will serve watermelon, our traditional southern delicacy.

Group Picture
Before, during, or after the Players' meeting on Friday, August 3, a professional photographer will take a group picture of the 2007 participants in tournament T-shirts. An order form will be in your player's packet.

The Players, Alternates, and Selection Process lists are frozen at the entry deadline. Any changes prior to the entry deadline will be shown in the Applicants, Players, and Selection Process lists.....However.....Once the deadline passes, player status is reflected in the Competitors list. Updates and changes only are reflected in the Competitors list to the left and the updated alternate lists above.

5-Minute Scheduling will be used.
Because of a new USTA-mandated procedure for handling lateness penalties for players in groups of matches scheduled at the same time, matches for this year's event will be scheduled in 5-minute increments. Scheduling every 5 minutes will mean that very few matches will be scheduled as part of a group, except for the large group of matches that will start each day.
Check your match time carefully so that you won’t be late. If you like this new scheduling procedure, money and gifts will be graciously accepted. If you don't like it, we'll forward your complaint to the USTA.

Sunday Morning Chapel Service
A 15-20 minute non-denominational chapel service will be held Sunday morning at 7:30a.m. at Peachtree City Tennis Center. Matches at the satellite site wil start at 8:30 so that you will have time to attend the service and be on time for an early match.

Players are selected from a designated Section or District ranking list.
Entry to this tournament is restricted. To see how entrants will be selected, follow the “Selection Process” link to the left. It is the player’s responsibility to check the selection list(s) after registering online to be sure that a check mark appears beside the player’s name on the list, in order to insure proper registration. Entries must be submitted by Thursday, July 12, 2007 12 Noon Eastern Time. Only USTA members can register online if available.
