What are EDC Orange Team Camps? Early Development Camps are USTA Player Development Camps that bring together promising 8-10 year old kids to train and play using activities and competitive situations that accelerate player development and are loads of fun!
Each Camp is also a Team, so kids enjoy team training, and competitive play is team based and coached - which helps the kids learn more and have even more fun! Additionally, a short parent education meeting happens at the start of every camp, players receive a Pro-completed Net Generation Assessment following each camp and kids earn 10U Youth Progression Stars for every camp they participate in!
What's the difference between "Area" and "Regional" Camps? Regional camps are Invitational. The top players from each Area camp will be invited to participate in the Regional camps along with kids selected by EDC Faculty Coaches.
Is my child ready for these Camps? The best way to determine your child's readiness is with a Net Generation assessment tinyurl.com/orangeassess Kids who score 85% or better on Orange 3 and 65% or better on Orange 2 assessments will be able to enjoy and complete the activities in this camp series. Some camps may have space to accommodate enthusiastic kids who are not yet at this level developmentally. Please connect with the director of your area camp series to see if that's possible.
My child is already Green (or Yellow) ball qualified - can they participate in and benefit from these camps? Absolutely! Orange Ball training and play are tools to accelerate player development - and they're extremely effective! In years past we've had some of our section's best 10U players (kids who were playing well in and winning BLAST Tour Green ball events) participating in EDC Orange Camps. Here are video illustrations of the competencies kids should feel confident with during match play. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyZKc9djPr54e-rG1eyEDqVndZhlExOMQ Many kids are switching fully to Green ball before they've solidified these competencies, which delays their development. Ideally, once kids become Green qualified they would play a mix of Orange and Green to maximize their development, success and fun! Questions?
