FORMAT OF PLAY:
Beginning January 1, 2012, all USTA Southern Level 3 tournament will adhere to a set and consistent format. Taking cost and school day factors into account, the Junior Competitive Committee has determined that the Level 3 tournaments will be conducted as follows:
- Singles Matches are only to be scheduled on Saturday and Sunday
-Each division will consist of two 16 feed in draws, with dependent draws
-The draws will be waterfalled to make two balanced draws.
-Each draw will use the new Level 3 Point table (increased points)
-Selections will remain the same as in the past. The top 32 players will be selected using the same process for bringing in the lower age division (four from the top 40)
-Until Wednesday prior to the tournament start date, alternates will fill in for any withdrawn player
-On Wednesday, the tournament director will split the 32 players into two balanced 16 draws using a format supplied by the Southern Office.
-Seeding must be done using the Southern Seeding Calculator
- After the draws are complete, the next alternate will fill a "withdrawal" spot no matter in which draw the withdrawal occurs.
-If a seeded player withdraws prior to 9:00 am local time the Friday before the tournament, the seeds shall be adjusted (only in that partciular draw) according to FAC.
-If the withdrawal occurs after 9:00 am local time the Friday before the tournament, the next alternate would be placed on the same line as the withdrawing seed.
- Out of Section players will be considered only after all of our Section players have been taken care of first.
-In the 12s division, four 10s division players will be selected by the Southern Guidelines to play in the 12U. These players will not be considered for seeding
-Players will be guaranteed three rounds most will have four.
The new Level 3 point table will be used starting January 1, 2015
-Two 16 feed in draws with dependent draws
-All single matches will be best out of three sets with a match tiebreak (10pt) to be used for third set
-If the number of entrants for a division is less than 24, one draw will be made using a modified back draw
-One draw of 16
Pro set (8 game) to be used
We will not have contact information for doubles until selections have been made on Monday. You can register without a partner. We will randomly pair anyone who does not have a partner. We do not have facebook for finding partners. Facebook has proven ineffective for finding a partner since a lot of people wait until the last minute to register for the tournament.
If you find a partner before 8:00 pm Tuesday (9/22) night, both players need to email me with your partner's name at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You may not enter a different age division in doubles than your singles. I know this is difficult when you register for two singles divisions and are not sure for which singles you will be selected. It is also a problem because your planned doubles partner may end up playing a different age division in singles and you will have to find a new partner.
When making the selections, we will only select doubles players in the same age division as their singles with or without a partner. Once selections are made, you can be added to the correct doubles age division - please email me to be added to the correct doubles age division. Also, doubles pairings can be made or changed by emailing email@example.com. Please do not email/call asking for players contact information. Per USTA, Southern, and Louisiana Rules this is forbidden.
Allowing you to register for doubles without a partner, gives you the opportunity to let others know you are interested in playing doubles increasing your chances of finding a partner. By allowing you to register for doubles without a partner, you have the added responsibility to notify us if you find a partner or you want to be withdrawn. If you do not have a partner or withdraw by 8:00 pm Tuesday (9/22), you are telling us you want to be randomly paired with a partner.
