Notes
Mesa Tennis Center
Format:
This event is an exciting and innovative concept focused on
learning to handle the challenges of competition and on development
of the player. Early development experts know that the purpose of
competition for children ages 7-10 is to learn to be a competitor.
This event puts the emphasis on fun and learning to compete, rather
than on outcome.
Using the Court Warrior Wild Cards created by world renowned coach
Mike Barrell,
http://www.evolve9.com/product-category/court-warrior/ based on the
principles used in the design of many computer games, players will
draw a card at random prior to receiving their court assignment.
Each card provides an advantage to the holder (and a challenge to
the receiver) that can be used once, at any time, during the match.
Some are more powerful than others but all help players to develop
a greater understanding of the tactical elements of the game, while
other players learn to deal with the adversity that these
advantages create for their opponent.
An explanation of the use of the cards will be given to
participants at a short meeting prior to the first match.
Because of the element of randomness the cards provide, and the
emphasis of this event on learning, awards will not be based on
winning but on sportsmanship qualities.
Scoring format:
Red: 2 out of 3 seven point sets, win by one.
