Parents and Coaches Rules!!
This is a quick reminder to the parents and coaches - Level 8 tournaments are entry level events... the kids will make bad line calls (usually not on purpose!), they will lose track of the score, serve from the wrong side, foot fault, and make just about every error you can think of. We all tend to live a little vicariously through our kids, but please let them work thru it on their own!! These tournaments are non-elimination events that don't earn ranking points and are designed to get them used to match play and prepare them to play in higher level events. The 8 and Under players will have a court monitor on each court, the other divisions will have 1 monitor per 3 courts. Tennis is an individual sport, parents and coaches are not allowed to be inside the fence, talk to the players (other than cheering), or take part in the match in any way other than as a spectator. Thank you!
The formats vary for each division, depending on the size of each draw. All events are approximately 2.5 hours of continuous play except 8U Red Ball. Red Ball will be approximately 1 hour of play. All divisions are non-elimination round robins. Tournament winner and runner up will be determined by total match wins EXCEPT ORANGE BALL. See notes below about Orange Ball format. Medals will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place in each division. 3rd place medals will also be awarded in the orange ball division because of the large draw size!
Co-ed 8 and Under: 36' Court, Red Ball. Each player will play 3 matches, each match will be the best 2-out-of-3 10-point tie breaks, win by 1. There will be a court monitor helping each court with scoring and line calls. Parents are allowed to sit on the benches inside the fences for this division only.
Co-ed 10 and Under: 60' Court, Orange Ball. Timed Format. 13 Total Players. Each player will play 7 or 8 matches with some players having a bye-round. Each match will be first-to-4-games, win by 1, no-ad scoring. Each round will be a maximum of 15 minutes, incomplete matches will be stopped at the 15 minute mark regardless of the current set score and a winner will be determined. The overall winner and all other final places will be determined by a championship head-to-head round based on TOTAL GAMES WON in the first 7 rounds. Parents are NOT allowed inside the fences for the 10 and Under matches.
