USTA SOUTHERN SEEDING CRITERIA
In an effort to provide greater transparency and understanding of how USTA Southern
seeds will be determined for USTA Southern L 1, 1A and 2 events, FAC (Friend at Court)
method II.A.4.b., which provides for a computerized system of rankings or standings. The
Junior Competition Committee approved the below chart that the Tournament Seeding
Committees, with assistance from the USTA Southern staff, shall utilize to determine
If two or more players are tied in the final seeding order, the higher seed is awarded to
the player with the higher current Southern Standing.
On a Draw will be seeded numerically 1-4, and in groupings of 5's, 9's and 17's. When calculating 12U seeds, the 10U standings are not considered.
Seeding will be prepared by the Southern Office at the time they prepare the selection list.
Do the selection lists consider players who are playing up? Yes, in Southern Level 1A, 2 and 3 Southern events, 1/8 of the draw is taken from the younger age players in the top 80 who are still in the younger age group. For Level 3 evernts, 1/8 of the draw is taken from the younger age players in the top 40 who are still in the younger age group. This is not done in any Southern Level 1 Championships.
