Five Sportsmanship Initiatives
1. We will ask all players at check in to read and if they are in agreement to sign the USTA Junior Player Oath. I recognize that tennis is a sport that places the responsibility for fair play on me. I promise to abide by the rules of the game, which require me to give the benefit of the doubt to my opponent. At all times I shall strive to compete with the true spirit of sportsmanship, recognizing that my behavior on the court is a direct reflection of my character. Whether this match ends with my victory or defeat, I promise to conduct myself in a way that honors my opponents, my team, those who support me, and the game of tennis.” 2. We will ask each player after every match to evaluate the sportsmanship of their opponent. 3. We will ask each Parent/Coach to agree and sign a Parent Sportsmanship Pledge. 4. USTA Midwest Sportsmanship Award will be given to a participant at the conclusion of the tournament. 5. In addition the Tournament Sportsmanship winner will receive a Joe Shade (JoeShade.com).

Please Read The Play And Complete Requirements
2019 USTA Midwest Section Closed Championship PLAY and COMPLETE Requirement 1. A player who does not Play and Complete his/her final match in the District Qualifier will not be eligible for a Quota spot or Alternate endorsement to the USTA/Midwest Closed Junior Outdoor Championships. 2. Play and Complete is defined as playing all points, including the final point of the match. A retirement is not considered a completed match for the retiring player.
3. A retirement, walkover or default in the player’s final match of the District Qualifier (including any feed-in consolation (FIC) matches) will cause the player to no longer be eligible to be endorsed as a Quota player or Alternate to the Midwest Closed. 4. There shall be no appeal of the Play and Complete requirement permitted. This Play and Complete requirement includes all matches, including the Main Draw Quarters, Semi’s and Final. Examples: If a main draw player (before the Quarters) retires, withdraws or defaults, they may still be placed in the consolation draw in order to complete the above requirement. If a main draw player gets to the Quarters, Semi’s or Final, they must Play and Complete their final match to be eligible for endorsement as a Quota player or Alternate to the Midwest Closed. They cannot default, retire or withdraw for any reason (illness, injury, etc.) as this would make them ineligible for any endorsement to the Midwest Closed.
