Tournament Information
Play will be held at the VANDY CHRISTIE TENNIS CENTER, outdoors, on the Northwestern Campus. The address is 2310 Sheridan Rd (cross streets are Sheridan and Colfax).
Play is anticipated to begin at noon on Saturday and run through Saturday afternoon. Sunday we will begin at 9am, and Monday we will play early afternoon/late afternoon.
The Chicago District Championship tournaments are District and Midwest Section Level 3 events with limited draws of 64 players in each age group. Seeds will be selected using Universal Tennis Rating (UTR). The consolation draws will only be played through to the point of identifying players to fill the Chicago District’s 13 Quota spots for the USTA/Midwest Closed Junior Outdoor Championships (“the Closed”), i.e., the “back draws” of the tournament will not be played to completion.

PLEASE READ ALL OF THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION BELOW
To be considered for endorsement to the Midwest Closed as a
Quota Player or an Alternate, a player must PLAY AND COMPLETE
his/her final match. Play and Complete is defined as playing all
points including the final point of the match. (see details
below).
PLAYERS PLEASE NOTE
By Midwest Regulations BG12,14,16 & 18 players may apply and
play in ONE QUALIFIER AGE GROUP. The only exception is the BG10
which can play in both the BG10 & BG12 Qualifier.
GENERAL
This is a Chicago District and Midwest Section Level 3 event with a
limited draw of 64 in each age group. This tournament will be used
to determine which players the CDTA will endorse to the Midwest
Closed Outdoor Championships on June 23-28, 2018. DO NOT enter this
event if you cannot, or have no intention to play the Midwest
Closed.
ELIGIBILITY
This tournament is open to Chicago District players who have shown
proof of US Citizenship (US Birth Certificate, US Passport, valid
Alien Registration Card, I-485 Letter). If you are applying to play
this tournament for the first time, you must mail, fax, or e-mail a
copy of your US Birth Certificate, US Passport, valid Alien
Registration Card or I-485 Letter to the CDTA office no later than
Monday, May 28, 2018. Send to CDTA, 2200 E. Devon Ave., Suite 319,
Des Plaines, IL 60018, fax 847-803-2383, e-mail cdta@msn.com. If
you did not submit citizenship documentation in 2003-2017, it must
be received in the CDTA office by May 28, 2018. Receiving the
documentation does not guarantee your acceptance into the event.
Please e-mail us at cdta@msn.com to make sure we received your
documentation before the entry deadline.
ENTRY DEADLINE
Tournament entry is by TennisLink only. The entry deadline is
Monday, May 28, 2018 at 11:59pm. When entering this event on-line,
you must list your current phone numbers and e-mail information in
the space provided. Be sure to print out your confirmation number
after completing the entry. You can check your entry status in the
applicant area of the tournament site.
SEEDING
Seeds will be selected using Universal Tennis Rating (UTR).
LATE ENTRIES
Late entries will ONLY be accepted by email to the Tournament
Director of the division.
If an alternate list exists, the late entries will be placed at the
bottom of the alternate list in the order of which their email was
received by the Tournament Director. Otherwise, the late entries
will be placed directly onto the competitor's list in the order
that their email was received by the Tournament Director.
NOTE: Once the seeds and draws are created, any late entry players
on the alternate list that would be seeded will be removed because
they would invalidate the draw and seeding (USTA Regulation
I.H.3).
PLAYER SELECTION CRITERIA
The following selection criteria will be used for the BG14, 16, 18
divisions: 1. Eight (8) players from the top 100 of the most
current USTA/Midwest Section Standing List in the next lower age
division. 2. 56 players from the most current USTA/Midwest Section
Standing List in the current age division of the event. Remaining
vacancies and/or alternates will be selected from the USTA/Midwest
Standing List in the division of the event.
ALTERNATES
Alternates will be posted in order and will be notified if a space
becomes available.
CONFLICTS
Players must be available to play at all times during the
tournament. The only conflicts we will try to accommodate are
school sessions (weekday matches are scheduled after noon), school
testing (ACT, SAT for 18 & under division only), and a player's
graduation ceremony. Conflicts must be submitted in writing and
received by the Tournament Director by May 28, 2018.
PLAY SITE
LocationThe tournament will be held OUTDOORS at the Vandy
Christie Tennis Center, 2310 Sheridan Rd. The courts are at the
intersection of Sheridan Rd and Colfax, one block south of Lincoln,
on the north side of the Northwestern Campus. In case of rain,
matches will be moved indoors to the Combe Tennis Center, 2311 N
Campus Drive (one block east of the outdoor courts, on the
lakefront. Take Sheridan to Lincoln; head east on Lincoln; courts
will be on your left).
SCORING FORMAT
Most play is scheduled to start on Saturday morning, however in the
BG18 age division, players must be prepared to play starting Friday
after school if needed. Main draw is 2 out of 3 sets, regular
scoring, with a full feed-in consolation. A Match Tie Break in lieu
of a 3rd set will be used in the consolation rounds up until the
last consolation round where 2 out of 3 sets will be played. The
consolation draw will be played only up to the qualifying spots for
endorsement purposes. Defaults, withdraws, walkover &
retirements are considered matches played and wins for the
advancing player, but do not meet the "play and complete"
requirement for the losing player.
ELECTRONIC DEVICESPlayers cannot access any electronic
devices during the match except during an off court split set
break.
START TIMES
First match times will be published above in the Future Match Info
Report. Subsequent match times will be given at the tournament
desk.
RAIN PROCEDURES
Players should report to their proper site at the designated match
time unless (1) you receive instructions from the Site
Director/Tournament Director, or (2) a rain update on this site has
specific instructions. A short period of rain may delay matches,
but will not automatically move matches indoors. Please be patient
with the tournament staff as they work through any rain or other
delays.
DRESS CODE
Proper tennis attire is required. No matter how professional
players are attired, we will be enforcing the following
regulations. Clothing NOT considered proper tennis attire can
include, but not be limited to: - Sports bras worn alone (without a
shirt) - Shirts with reference to sex, drugs, alcohol, tobacco or
violence. - Compression shorts worn alone (not covered by shorts or
a skirt). - Girls tops must cover midriff when arms are at rest. -
Boys: no tank tops or cutoff t-shirts.
ENDORSEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 2018
The Chicago District has been allocated 13 "Quota" spots for
automatic selection to the 2018 Midwest Outdoor Closed tournament
this year. The Endorsement process has been updated to select
players from the Chicago District Championships - District
Qualifier event in the BG 12-18 age divisions.
1) 8 Quarterfinalists from the Main Draw will be automatically
endorsed.
2) 4 players are selected from those that advance to the
Consolation Quarterfinal Round from the Consolation Quarterfinal
Qualifier Round.
3) From the 4 players that did not advance to the Consolation
Quarterfinal Round from the Quarterfinal Qualifier Round, 1 will be
selected in ranking order from the Midwest Ranking list published
the week prior to the tournament.
4) Alternates will be selected from the tournament Competitors in
the ranking order from the Midwest Ranking list published the week
prior to the tournament.
5) If a player does not reach an automatic qualifying position in
the draw and wants to be considered for an alternate status for the
Midwest Closed, the player must have played and completed their
final match.
Play and Complete is defined as playing all points including the
final point of the match.
No Appeals of the Play and Complete Requirement are
permitted.
ENDORSEMENT TO THE MIDWEST CLOSED
There is no paperwork to fill out. To be accepted into the Midwest
Closed draw players must (1) ENTER THE CLOSED ON-LINE, (2) APPEAR
ON THE DISTRICT LIST AS ONE OF THE 13 ENDORSED PLAYERS. Alternates
must also ENTER THE MIDWEST CLOSED ON-LINE and appear on the
District alternate list. Midwest will then determine which
alternates will get in based on records of all players in the
alternate pool.
