NEW TENNIS COURTS AT COD!
Experience the lifestyles of the rich and famous at COD! When you
step foot on our campus to play tennis; eat at our restaurants;
stay in our hotel, or whatever you decide (the possiblities are
endless in Glen Ellyn) - you will feel like a millionaire...even if
you don't have the money...yet. When you play at COD you will feel
like you are at a country club, but without the dues!
GENERAL TOURNAMENT INFORMATION:
FREE T-SHIRTS FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS!
We NOW have great lights (Musco brand) to make you feel like you
are at the US Open! Our 6 outdoor courts are in high demand. Our
facility was designed by V3co.com to be a destination for everyone
to enjoy. This isn't just a slab of cement with posts and nets. If
you decide to have a stay-cation this summer, then this is the
place for you. Plenty of Div 1, 2, 3 schools like to soak up our
National Championship atmosphere and play on our courts during
tournaments/dual meets/camps - you are invited too! Check out
www.codtennis.com for all the tennis events we run on campus.
DIRECTIONS TO THE TENNIS COURTS:
Official address is 425 Fawell Blvd, Glen Ellyn, but that will take
you to the other side of campus. You cannot access the tennis
courts from Fawell - you can only reach the courts from College
Blvd! (Fyi, College and Fawell run parallel with each other. The
other main streets: Lambert & Park run parallel). All the
athletic fields are next to each other
(football/baseball/track/tennis) - signs are on campus directing
you to the athletic fields. You can even park next to the courts
and have a tailgate party!
TOURNAMENT OFFICIATING:
This level 6 tournament follows the USTA rules very strictly. We
have line judges (college coaches/HS coaches/college players) who
will roam and actively go to each court when a dispute arises and
follow the Friend at Court manual. Please check your match times -
late penalties will be enforced.
SCORING:
All matches will be 2 out of 3 sets with a tie breaker in lieu of a
3rd set with regular scoring. If you lose your first match you get
to play more in the backdraw at the beautiful COD campus! We try to
play out the backdraw to completion if weather and court
availability allows.
SCHEDULE OF PLAY:
On Wed/Thurs/Friday junior matches will start at 4:30pm or later.
Adult matches will start 6pm or later. This is a nighttime
challenger. On Saturday/Sunday play can begin as early as 8am, but
we hope to continue in the late afternoon/evening to help you enjoy
the nights under the lights! However, rain or large draws can make
us begin early.
DRAW SIZE:
We never have a limit on the draw sizes at COD! We want to grow the
game big time! According to USTA rules we need 3 in an age category
to make it so. Please contact us before the deadline if you think
your age category will be too small and would like to request to
move to another age category. Please be aware when you register
there may be more than 3 but people do drop out before the deadline
and you'll be left holding the bag. Shoot an email in advance and
you'll be money.
SELECTION PROCESS:
We manually select & process all applicants at the deadline
time thru the USTA/TDM software.
MATCH TIMES:
We always put the match schedule & draws online within 2 hours
of the deadline to help you plan your life at COD!
WITHDRAWS/MIDWEST SUSPENSION POINT SYSTEM:
If you need to withdraw while registration is still open, please go
to our homepage and in the left margin click on "Edit Registration"
and proceed to withdraw. No reason is necessary while the
registration is still open. If registration has closed and
tournament has not begun yet, please email the tournament director
and list the reason for withdraw. If tournament has begun, please
call the tournament director when withdrawing from a USTA event
once the selections have been made, the only reasons that are
accepted by the USTA Referee without incurring FIVE (5) suspension
points are injury, illness or family emergency. Having a soccer
game, a family dinner, or not feeling like playing the consolation
are not accepted reasons.
SIGNING UP FOR TWO EVENTS/MIDWEST SUSPENSION POINT SYSTEM:
USTA/Midwest Section Suspension Point System The USTA Code of
Conduct and Suspension Point System is in effect. You are expected
to play the entire event as scheduled. The USTA/Midwest Section
Junior Competition Committee has adopted a new Suspension Point
System. All players will be given FIVE (5) suspension points for
entering two or more tournaments that take place at the same time,
in whole or in part, unless each Tournament Committee involved
agrees with the multiple entries in writing. This applies to all
players who signed up for the tournament including
alternates.
USTA CONTACT INFORMATION:
Procedure for tournament registration: because of Privacy Laws,
your contact information from USTA membership doesn't show up in
the Tournament Directors' software anymore. Only what you indicate
during the registration process shows up. We have no way of
contacting you if you leave these areas blank. For instance, your
opponent is sick. You may make an extra trip here and not need to.
You must indicate all phone numbers, home, cell (a must!), work and
your email address on each registration, EACH and EVERY time, for
each and every tournament you register for.
SEEDING REGULATIONS:
The committee pulls the seeds from the most currrent USTA Midwest
Rankings.
REFUNDS:
Unfortunately there are no refunds after we process the credit
cards, create the draws & assign match times. Please let us
know in advance if you have a scheduling conflict and we will do
our best to accommodate.
AWARDS:
We always have a very memorable award ceremony for 1st and 2nd
place finishers in every category. Every participant always gets a
FREE T-SHIRT! Come get your picture taken with our "Stanley Cup"
(Chaparral Jack).
QUESTIONS:
Contact Jim Bowers at: bowers@cod.edu if you have any questions.
During the tournament it's best to reach me via cell/text at: 630
890 4993. Texting is the best way to get the fastest response -
especially the day of the tournament due to the 100's of telephone
calls I receive. Please be aware I have 3-4 other
jobs/responsibilities and am unable to pick up the telephone.
BE SOMEBODY AT THE COD TOURNAMENT:
Are you serious about getting better? Is there some mistake why you
are not improving? Is your tennis game not lined up properly
similar to how some facilities have the tennis lights? Are you
upset so you don't want to play in anymore tournaments? Can you not
get your facts straight? Is your internet down? Don't despair! Play
at COD and all your troubles will vanish. Or, you may wish to watch
Oprah & Dr Drew on TV to see if that will help instead...
HIGHLIGHTS!
Free candy for all participants! 3 new tennis balls for each match!
Great location for family fun! Enroll at College of DuPage - A
value of a lifetime! An affordable education with no massive
student loans. Don't just dream about it...come enroll and COD and
play on our tennis team and/or participate in many of the other
opportunities we have.
SUGGESTION BOX:
Believe it or not, that's how we got new courts at COD. Driving
over in his VW Passat he pointed out that our lights were crooked.
We decided to demolish the old facility so we can make the new
lights line up perfectly for everyone. We want to make sure you
aren't disappointed with our tournys, so make sure you tell us what
we are doing wrong; wag your finger to inform us on how we can grow
the game better; or submit a grievance on what we can do to make
your life at COD the best it can be. We apologize in advance for
disappointing you.
NEW FOR THE 2011 AND BG10'S IN THE MIDWEST SECTION:
All BG10 Level 6 Challengers will play on a regulation size tennis
court but will be using the Green Ball. In addition, the scoring
format will always be two out of three sets with a Match Tiebreak
(superbreaker) in lieu of the third set. The Green Ball is 25 %
slower and lower bouncing than the Yellow Ball. This helps players
to continue to develop good technique, movement, as well as
implement advanced tactics. Both team and individual events are
played. The USTA/Midwest Section recommends this stage for training
and it is required in all Level 1-6 tournaments in the USTA/Midwest
Section Points Per Round Program.
