Midwest Level 2/ National Level 5
For ranking Purposes, this is a USTA/Midwest Level 2 and a National
level 5 tournament.
NO REFUNDS AFTER PLAYER SELECTION IS
COMPLETE.
Warm Up Courts.
Warm Up Courts can be booked starting Wednesday the 5th at 8am. No
earlier. On Friday, all three facilities, can be booked for warm
up, $10 for half hour or $20 for full hour (Markin beginning at
6pm, Maple Y beginning at 3pm to 10pm with programming filling some
of the court, and Portage Y beginning at 2pm to 10pm with
programming filling some of the courts). On Saturday, Maple Y and
Markin (Kalamazoo College's indoor facility) have 4 warm up courts
open from 6:30-8am that can booked for half hour at a time for $10
ea. When reserving, PAYMENT must be made at that time. At Portage Y
on Saturday, 3 courts are open from 6:30-7:30p then 1 court from
7:30-9am, and from 1-1:30pm, for $10 per half hour. On Sunday, all
three facilities have warm up courts from 6:30-8am that can be
booked for half hour at a time for $10 each. On Monday, warm up
courts will be available at Maple from 6:30-8am that can be booked
for half hour at at time for $10 each. Please call the Maple Y for
booking court for Maple Y and Markin at (269)345-9622 ext. 163. DO
NOT CALL MARKIN TO RESERVE COURTS. For reserving courts at the
Portage Y please call (269)324-9622 ext. 400. Other facilities for
warm up courts: West Hills Athletic Club (269)387-0410 and Battle
Creek Minges Creek Athletic Club (269)979-1111.
Draw Size/FIC Consolation/Scoring
For this tournament, draw size will be 64 players with a full
feed-in consolation thru the quarterfinals with no doubles. Players
may play up to three matches on Sunday if they are in the
consolation. Please note that with the Feed In Consolation Format a
total of 16 players will be competing on Monday morning. Due to the
increase of matches, the final rounds will end later on Monday.
SCORING FORMAT - Matches will consist of two tiebreak sets (with a
set tiebreak at six games all), and a match tiebreak (first to 10,
ahead by 2) in lieu of a full third set for all consolation
matches. ALL main draw matches will be two out of three full
tie-break sets. In between the second and third sets for main draw
matches, there is a mandatory ten minute break. For the consolation
matches, in between the second set and third set match tiebreak,
there is a mandatory three minute break. Advantage scoring will be
used for all matches.

Times will be posted on Tuesday, January 4th by 3pm. Click on the
blue link above: Future Match Info Report to find out your first
match time. Please do not call or email to find out times before
Tuesday afternoon. They will not be given.

PLAYER SELECTION & ALTERNATES
Player Selection (Competitors/Players By Event) and Numbered
Alternate Listing will be posted on this tournament page by 6pm on
the Monday following the tournament entry deadline. The alternate
list will be posted through a report that you will be able to click
on. Selections were done by Dec. 22nd ranking list.
ORDER OF PLAY
Saturday: Play begins at 8 a.m. Main Draw will play 1st and 2nd
round matches followed by the 1st round of the FIC (Feed In
Consolation). Sunday: Play begins at 8 a.m. Main Draw will play
round of 16 and Quarterfinals FIC will play the 2nd, 3rd and 4th
round of consolation Monday: Play begins at 8 a.m. Main Draw
Semifinals, Finals and 3/4th playoff FIC will play the qualifying
quarterfinals, quarterfinals. Semifinals and finals of the FIC will
not be played out.

Tournament hotel is the Holiday Inn West at 2747 11th Street
Kalamazoo, MI 49009 (269)375-6000. The tournament rate is $115
(rate includes two breakfast buffet coupons per room). To reserve a
room, call (269)375-6000. It is under the booking of the Kalamazoo
YMCA USTA tournament. You will also receive 20% off Burdick's
Restaurant for your entire stay upon check in for breakfast, lunch
and dinner.
2010 USTA/MIDWEST SEEDING AND SELECTION
CRITERIA
All USTA/Midwest Sectional and Designated Tournaments will adhere
to the following Seeding and Selection Criteria as set by the
USTA/Midwest Section Junior Competition Committee. Players will be
selected based on the most current USTA/Midwest Section Standing
List at the time of the tournament entry deadline. Players will be
selected by the following 1. Eight (8) players from the top 100 of
the most current USTA/Midwest Section Standing List in next lower
division (except in the boys and girls 12s divisions where 4
players will be selected) 2. 56 players from the most current
USTA/Midwest Section Standing List in the current age division of
the event (except in the boys and girls 12s division where 60
players will be accepted) Remaining vacancies and/or alternates
will be selected from the USTA/Midwest Section Standing List in the
division of the event. Seeding will be done based on the
USTA/Midwest Section Standing List the following week. The second
list will only be used for Seeding. The alternates will not be
re-numbered with this new list.
USTA/MIDWEST SECTION DOMICILE RULES:
The USTA/Midwest Section Closed Junior Championships, the district
qualifiers, the USTA/Midwest Section Designated Tournaments,
USTA/MIDWEST Indoor Fall Closed/Indoor Opens and USTA/Midwest
Section Junior Davis & Wightman Cup events are open to citizens
of the U.S. permanent resident aliens in possession of a valid
alien registration card, individuals who are applicants for
adjustment to lawful permanent resident status and who can present
a USCIS receipt for a pending unadjudicated form I-485, aliens who
have resided continuously in the US for more than one year and who
are members of families of persons in the diplomatic or consular
corps and aliens who have been granted Refugee Status, Asylee
Status or Temporary Protected Status.
CONTACT INFORMATION
We cannot contact you unless you provide us your telephone numbers
and your e-mail address. The USTA Legal Department has determined
that they cannot provide contact information to tournament
directors unless the customer provides the contact information
during the registration process. Previously the home phone number
and email address were pre-filled from the USTA Membership database
when a player went through the online registration process. The
pre-fill was removed due to privacy concerns. If you don't provide
an email address and/or telephone number when you register for this
tournament then we will be unable to notify you about any possible
changes in the tournament.
USTA/MIDWEST SECTION SUSPENSION POINT SYSTEM &
SIGNING UP FOR TWO TOURNAMENTS
Signing up for two events: The USTA Code of Conduct and Suspension
Point System is in effect. You are expected to play the entire
event as scheduled. The USTA/Midwest Section Junior Competition
Committee has adopted a new Suspension Point System. All players
will be given five (5) suspension points for entering two or more
tournaments that take place at the same time, in whole or in part,
unless each Tournament Committee involved agrees with the multiple
entries in writing via e-mail. This applies to all players who
signed up for the tournament including alternates.
DRESS CODE
Proper tennis attire must be worn during all tennis matches.
As recommended by the USTA, DRAWS WILL BE POSTED
WHEN FIRST ROUND PLAY BEGINS.
KALAMAZOO WEATHER
No matter the weather, the tournament will be played. Please make
appropriate travel plans especially if snow is predicted.
