THANK-YOU TO EVERYONE!!!
Tournament director Eric Voges, Head Referee Andrew Rogers and his officials, front-desk "Big Mama" Mary Cook and tournament organizer Eddie Baker, as well as the staff at the Champions Club, would like to say a big "thank-you" to all players, parents and friends that helped make the 2011 National Open 12s Boys' & Girls' Championships a tremendous success in Chattanooga's final year to host the event. Although it was quite hot and humid, the rain stayed away and the play on the court was exceptional. Congratulations to all the participants and continued success throughout the remainder of 2011, on and off the court.

DESIATNIKOV, WOOD CAPTURE SINGLES CROWNS
Third-seeded Abigail (Abby) Desiatnikov, only 10 years old and standing just over 4-foot tall, wrapped up her blazing fireworks display in the National Open 12s Championships on Independence Day at the Champions Club, claiming the girls' singles crown with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over fellow Buckeye State (Ohio) standout Alexandra Sanford, the No. 2 seed. Abby, who dropped only 22 games in five tourney matches, hails from Gates Mills, Ohio, while Sanford resides approximately three hours away in Westerville. The win was Desiatnikov's fifth straight against Sanford. Not to be outdone, Knoxville's Chase Wood, the No. 2 seed, knocked off top seed Trice Pickens of Cary, N.C., in the boys' title clash, winning 6-4, 6-3. Wood didn't drop a set in five tournament matches, losing only 17 total games for the holiday weekend.

SUNDAY'S MATCHES OF THE DAY
Oh, yes, it was hot again! But despite the heat index climbing well above 100 degrees on the court, Mother Nature failed to compare with Abigail Desiatnikov in the National Open 12s Championships on Sunday at the Champions Club. Desiatnikov, the third seed from Gates Mill, Ohio, opened singles play with a 6-4, 6-4 decision over unseeded Emma Decoste of Stuart, Fla. However, it was her second match that turned heads when Abigail convincingly knocked off No. 1 seed Meredith Roberts of Ridgeland, Miss., by 6-3, 6-1. She's yet to drop a set in four matches and battles fellow Buckeye Stater (and No. 2 seed) Alexandra Sanford in Monday morning's 9:30 (EDT) championship clash. As for the boys, top seed Trice Pickens of Cary, N.C., rallied from behind to hold off No. 5 seed Josh Mukherjee of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(2) in the semifinals. Pickens collides with second seed Chase Wood of Knoxville in Monday morning's 9:30 title showdown.

TOURNAMENT OFF TO A "BLAZING" START
It was hot on Saturday! Very hot! The temperature soared into the upper 90s, but the humidity made conditions feel well over 100 degrees on the courts at the Champions Club. And the heat certainly took its toll, forcing several retirements. But the players marched on in the National Open 12s.

SATURDAY'S MATCHES OF THE DAY
Lindsay Song of Birmingham, Ala., and Patrick Sklenka of Cumming, Ga., traveled the longest paths to reach Sunday's singles quarterfinals of the National Open 12s Championships at the Champions Club. Both won a pair of three-setters. Song, one of No. 5 seeds, opened with a 6-1, 6-7 (0), 1-0 (8) decision over Alexandra Pollack of Mequon, Wis., then failed to win a game in the opening set against Abigail Markel of Charlotte, N.C. However, Song got in tune to record an 0-6, 7-6 (6), 1-0 (7) thriller. Song battles No. 2 seed Alexandra Sanford of Westerville, Ohio, on Sunday morning at 9:30. As for the unseeded Sklenka, the Georgian first knocked off fourth-seeded Jeff Zucker of Short Hills, N.J., by 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (5), then rallied from behind to topple Knoxville's Thomas Loaiza, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (8). Sklenka clashes with No. 5 seed Josh Mukherjee of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., on Sunday morning at 10.
