Ordering Alternates and On-site Alternates
Ordered Alternate List. Effective January 1, 2009, a new procedure for ordering USTA National Open alternates was adopted as follows:
• Players in positions up to 600 from the National Standings List of the division used to select players into the tournament in the order in which their names appear on this List
• Players not already placed on the alternate list in positions up to 400 from the National Standings List of the next-younger division used to select players into the tournament in the order in which their names appear on this List
• Players not already placed on the alternate list whose names appear on the National Standings List of the division used to select players into the tournament in the order in which their names appear on this List
• Players not already placed on the alternate list whose names appear on the National Standings List of the next-younger division used to select players into the tournament in the order in which their names appear on this List and
• The remaining entrants in an order determined by lot.
On-Site Alternates. Effective January 1, 2009, the procedure for accepting on-site alternates into the draw was rewritten for clarification as follows:
The Tournament Committee shall establish a procedure for checking in on-site alternates and instruct players in the Tournament Information Brochure. The procedure shall include the following:
• On each day in which alternates may be accepted into a draw, any alternate desiring admittance must check in and be ready for play no later than 15 minutes prior to the first scheduled match time of the event for which they are an alternate.
• The order of the alternates is based on the original Alternate List published by the tournament, not a more recent National Standings List, and not in the order in which the players check in.
On-Site Alternates may be admitted into the singles main draw to replace withdrawing players until the completion of the first round of play. Any player receiving a bye in the first round can also be replaced by an on-site alternate in the second round because this player has not yet
played a match in the event. This does not apply to players receiving withdrawals or retirements as these are considered matches won. On-Site Alternates may not play in the Feed-In Championship unless they have first played in the singles main draw.

A team’s combined standing is determined as follows: Player A holds the #200 standing and Player B holds the #201 standing. The Team of A&B would have the combined standing of 402.

Alternate Selection
I have ordered the first 64 alternates. These players have a National Standing in either the Boys 16's or 14's. Players that are not ordered have no National Standing. We will accept late alternates but they will be added to the alternates list after the players that are not ordered (they will be ordered next week). Historically, because of withdraws, we have reached players as low as 20 on the alternate list.
