THANKS TO EVERYONE
A big "thank-you" goes to all players, parents, spectators and tournament workers for a great National Open 12s event at Chattanooga's Champions Club. The young talent was outstanding with great matches and memories. And although the heat sizzled to over 100 degrees most days, Mother Nature co-operated with no (or very little) rain. Again, thanks to everyone!!!

KWAITKOWSKI, WILLIAMS CHAMPIONS AT CHAMPIONS
THAI KWAITKOWSKI of Charlotte, N.C., alphabetically seeded 9-12, defeated a higher seed for four consecutive days, wrapping up Wednesday morning's play at the Champions Club with a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(10-7) boys' singles championship decision over top seed Gordon Watson of Naples, Fla. In consecutive matches (days), the spirited North Carolina talent knocked off No. 4 Danny Mack (round of 16), No. 5 Hunter Mills (quarters), No. 2 Conrad Harron (semis) and then Watson. CAITLYN WILLIAMS of Knoxville, Tenn., had no trouble defending her No. 1 among the girls' singles challengers. She dropped her opening two games in the title round against Jacqueline Crawford of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., but quicklly bounced back to win 12 of the next 13 games for a 6-3, 6-0 triumph. Crawford was a fifth seed.

AND THE SINGLES FINALISTS ARE ...
Although both the boys' and girls' top seeds will play Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. at the Champions Club for the National Open 12s singles championships, No. 9 Thai Kwaitkowski (boys) of Charlotte, N.C. and No. 5 Jacqueline Crawford (girls) of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., grabbed the remaining two finals berths with relatively easy victories on Tuesday. Kwaitkowski pinned a 6-1, 6-2 loss on No. 2 Conrad Harron of Chicago to advance to the title round against No. 1 Gordon Watson of Naples, Fla., who decked No. 3 Maxx Lipman of Nashville, 6-1, 6-2, in the semis. Crawford, meanwhile, stopped No. 5 (5-8, alphabetically) Sydney Campbell of Franklin, Tenn., by 6-3, 6-1 to step up a championship showdown with No. 1 Caitlyn Williams of Knoxville. In her semifinal test, Williams bounced Annie Dimuro of Chester, N.J., 6-2, 6-1.

TUESDAY'S "FIREWORKS'' MATCH OF THE DAY
As the Fourth of July summer day sizzled to the mid-90s -- with a heat-index of well above 100 on the court -- Megan Kurey of Alpharetta, Ga., and Julie Vrabel of Centreville, Va., battled for two, grueling hours for the right to advance to Wednesday morning's 9 a.m. girls' singles consolation final. Kurey, the No. 3 seed, rallied in the third-set match tie-break to survive with a 7-6 (5), 1-6 1-0 (10-4) decision. Kurey meets No. 9 Kendal Woodard of Stockbridge, Ga., in the consolation finale. Woodard defeated No. 4 Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum of New York City, 6-1, 6-3, in the semis.

MONDAY'S MATCHES OF THE DAY
Girls' singles top-seed Caitlyn Williams of Knoxville was the only higher-seeded player to survive in Monday's four quarterfinal matches at the Champions Club. Williams knocked off No. 9 Kendall Woodard of Stockbridge, Ga., 6-0, 6-1. However, No. 2 Julie Vrabel of Centreville, Va., No. 3 Megan Kurey of Alpharetta, Ga., and No. 4 Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum of New York City all got bounced into the consolation bracket by a trio of No. 5 seeds (alphabetically 5-8). Vrabel dropped a 6-1, 2-6, 10-8 decision to Sydney Campbell of Franklin, Tenn., while Jacqueline Crawford of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., toppled Kurey by 2-6, 6-4, 10-7, and Annie Dimuro of Chester, N.J., defeated Bernard-Feigenbaum, 6-3, 6-1. In the Fourth of July's semis, Williams meets Dimuro and Crawford takes on Campbell. The one higher-seed boys player to fall was No. 5 Hunter Mills of Mayfield, Ky., who lost 6-3, 6-4 to No. 9 Thai Kwaitkowski of Charlotte, N.C. Kwaitkowski has knocked off two higher seeded players in consecutive days and on Tuesday squares off against second-seeded Conrad Harron of Chicago.

MONDAY'S DOUBLES DELIGHT
Not only did the duo of Strong Kirchheimer of Cary, N.C., and Trey Strobel of Bradenton, Fla., rally back from a 7-3 pro-set deficit to the fourth-seeded tandem of Sean Karl of Brentwood, Tenn., and Maxx Lipman of Nashville, but the No. 6-seeded Kirchheimer-Strobel fell behind in the match tie-break, 6-1, before winning the last nine points for a 10-6 win and a berth in Tuesday's semifinals. Kirchheimer and Strobel will take on the top-seeded team of Danny Mack of Lakeland, Fla., and Gordon Watson of Naples, Fla.

SUNDAY'S MATCHES OF THE DAY
Boys' singles No. 9 seed Thai Kwaitkowski of Charlotte, N.C., a big hitter for a little guy, got off to a fast start and never looked back in ousting fourth-seed Danny Mack of Lakeland, Fla., 6-1, 6-0, to advance to Monday's quarterfinals against No. 5 Hunter Mills of Mayfield, Ky. Two other higher seeded players lost on Sunday in the 95-degree sizzler: No. 13 Will Adams of Indianapolis, Ind., toppled No. 5 Howard Weiss of Great Neck, N.Y., 6-2, 6-2, in the boys' draw, and No. 9 Kendal Woodard of Stockbridge, Ga. -- an 11 year old who stands 6-foot tall -- knocked off No. 5 Tiffany Tavares of Las Vegas, Nev., 6-3, 6-2.

SATURDAY'S MATCHES OF THE DAY
Rebecca Nylen of Auburn, Ala., could win but one game in her Girls' singles round-of-16 match against Shannon Tooley of Alpharetta, Ga., in a battle of unseeded players, but the Bama gal bounced back to win the second set in a tie-breaker, 7-0, then kept the momentum going to post a 10-7 match tie-break win for the deciding set. Nylen will tangle Sunday morning with fourth-seeded Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum of New York City. Only one seeded player (boys or girls) lost on the court. Ashley Noyes of Marblehead, Mass., claimed a 6-3, 6-4 girls' singles round-of-16 victory over No. 9 Sarah Pariser of Alexandria, Va.
