Welcome to the 2005 USTA National Open Championships Girls' 14s at Arlington Tennis Center! We look forward to seeing you May 21-25 at our award-winning facility. ATC is a public facility featuring 20 Plexipave outdoor lighted tennis courts, a full service proshop and concessions. Our proshop carries the latest in tennis racquets and other equipment, and we offer prompt stringing service. ATC's Director of Tennis was the USPTA Texas Division 2004 Manager of the Year, and both she and our Head Tennis Professional are former top 200 touring pros. In addition to our Director and Head Pro's professional tour experience, ATC's nine-member teaching staff includes USPTA Professional 1 pros, several former high school state champions and Division I full scholarship players, as well as a number of area high school coaches. ABOUT THE NATIONAL OPEN
This 2005 USTA National Open Championship is included in the National Junior Tournament Schedule and is considered a USTA Junior National Championship. This event is also sanctioned by the USTA Youth Competition and Training Committee. Wilson is the official ball for the tournament.

EVENTS AND ELIGIBILITY
This tournament is for Girls' 14s and under. Players who meet the U.S. citizenship or residency requirements, the USTA age eligibility requirements and membership requirements (current USTA membership) may enter. Players do not have to be age eligible for the subsequent USTA National Championship to enter a USTA National Open. An amateur player with an ATP, WTA or ITF ranking is eligible to enter only if her name appears on the most recently published National Standings Lists used for selection as of the entry deadline.

ENTERING THE TOURNAMENT
All players are required to enter this event on-line through the USTA's TennisLink registration system as the selection process is done electronically. Upon completion of the registration process, a confirmation number will be received that indicates successful registration. TennisLink will not charge credit cards unless the player is accepted into the tournament. Any problems regarding the registration process must be directed to tennislink@usta.com. Players must indicate their preferred site or sites in priority order. Players may enter only one division. Please note: the confirmation number does NOT indicate the player has been accepted in the tournament.

SLECTION PROCESS
The selection process for the USTA National Opens is computerized through TennisLink, and the selection and acceptance notification occurs after the entry deadline. Players are accepted into the draws and given preference in their choice of site based upon a variety of criteria. See link for more information.

SELECTION NOTIFICATION
Main draw players and alternates can view the lists at least five days after the entries close. All players accepted by the TennisLink system will be sent a confirmation email that includes as part of the text of the email the USTA Release and USTA Medical Release Form. Alternates will appear on the alternate lists al all sites they have prioritized. The Tournament committee will contact alternates selected to fill openings in the draw. Once a player has been accepted into a USTA National Open, the player shall not be eligible for play in any other USTA National Open held during the same time. Once accepted into a tournament, players should contact all other tournaments that have the players on Alternate lists to have their names removed (the process for removal from Alternates lists is not automated).

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ALTERNATES
Players who have not been selected after all four USTA National Open draws have been filled shall be placed in alternate pools at all concurrent USTA National Opens for which the players indicated a preference. Players will be contacted by the Tournament Director as soon as a space is available, and acceptance in writing is required. NOTE: ALL ORIGINAL ALTERNATES HAVE BEEN CONTACTED, AND OUR DRAW IS COMPLETE. HOWEVER, WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING LATE ENTRIES FOR PLAYERS WHO WILL BE CONTACTED, IN ORDER OF ENTRY RECEIVED, IN THE EVENT A SPACE IN THE DRAW OPENS (withdrawal, etc.). Alternates accepted into the draw will be contacted with additional information, including the Medical Release, and to secure payment for their entries. Note: The USTA on-line registration system does NOT charge credit cards unless a player is accepted in the tournament. After the deadline, Alternates will receive a notice from TennisLink informing them that their cards have not been charged, and that they need to contact the TD to pay for their entry in the tournament. No need to contact us. WE will call YOU for payment. Thanks!

USTA NATIONAL CLAY COURT CHAMPIONSHIPS
The top three Singles finishers in this tournament (who have submitted timely entries) shall be accepted into the USTA National Clay Court Championships. In addition, the Doubles finalists (who have submitted timely entries) shall be accepted into the Doubles draw for the USTA National Clay Court Championships, and they will also be Singles alternates (if they are not already in the Singles draw). Note: lower place finishers do not gain entry under this process even if one of the qualifiers fails to enter, is not age eligible or achieves entry by another procedure. Any player who is defaulted for any reason will not be eligible for the USTA National Championships.

TOURNAMENT CHECK IN
Tournament check-in is Friday, May 20, from 5:00-8:00 PM. PLAYERS MUST CHECK THEMSELVES IN FOR THE TOURNAMENT (not parents, coaches, etc.). At tournament check-in, players will receive important tournament information, copies of the draw, a tournament gift and other “goodies.” Players will also sign up for and confirm partners for doubles (see DOUBLES for more information). See LATE CHECK-IN for more information. PLAYERS MUST BRING THEIR MEDICAL RELEASE FORMS TO CHECK-IN. See also PLAYER MEETING. Players who cannot check in on Friday night should contact ATC in advance to make arrangements for check in on Saturday morning, 8:00 AM-9:00 AM only (check in will conclude before play begins at 9:30).

PLAYER MEETING
Our mandatory player meeting will be held on Friday, May 20, 7:00 PM, at Arlington Tennis Center. The Tournament Director and Referee will discuss important aspects of the tournament with the players, and a group photo will be taken of all competitors who are present. Players who are unable to attend due to travel issues must 1) contact the Tournament Director prior to Friday at atc@ci.arlington.tx.us, and 2) check in for the tournament between 8:00:00 AM - 9:00 AM Saturday morning, May 21. The tournament check-in desk will close once match play begins on Saturday morning.

DOUBLES
Doubles sign up will be held on Friday evening, May 20, and continue through Saturday, May 21, 10:00 AM. Draws will be made and posted by 3:00 PM on Saturday, with play beginning after Singles have finished for the day. Only Singles players and Singles alternates are eligible to play Doubles. Players may designate a partner or be assigned one at random. Doubles is single elimination, with awards for First and Second place. Remember, if your name is not on the list for doubles, you can sign up on Friday night or Saturday morning!

RELEASE FORM
The USTA Release and USTA Medical Release Form was available at the end of the confirmation email received after the player has been accepted into the tournament. This email should be printed by the player, signed and brought to the tournament at check-in. Alternates gaining entry after the selection has taken place will also need to sign and bring the form with them to check-in (formed emailed week of May 9).

SITE INFORMATION
All matches will be played at ATC. Call 817-459-6163 for directions. Please note: *Spectators are not allowed on courts at any time. *Pets and smoking are prohibited in the ATC proshop/building & inside the fenced areas around the courts. *Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the property (including the parking lot). *To comply with Health Department guidelines, water jugs are not on courts, but free cups/ice/water are available.

PRACTICE COURTS and WARMUPS
A limited number of practice courts will be available free of charge throughout the tournament. Practice courts may be reserved in half-hour, half-court increments. Please contact one of our Customer Service Representatives at our front counter to reserve practice courts. In addition to practice courts at Arlington Tennis Center, area park courts are also available. See map link for additional information. Players may also arrange on court time for warmups with one of our nine-member teaching staff.

PLAYER BANQUET
The Player Banquet Buffet will be held Saturday evening, May 21, 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM at Arlington Tennis Center. The delicious buffet will be catered by the very popular Buck 'N Loons Restaurant. Tournament players will be our guests, and additional tickets for the banquet (for parents, coaches, etc.) may be purchased for $10 each at tournament check-in on Friday night. Dinner will include two types of chicken, vegetables, salad, cookies and tea/soft drinks. Yummy! The buffet will be open for an extended period of time (see above) so that players and guests can choose to eat before or after doubles play. BE SURE TO KEEP YOUR BANQUET TICKET STUB - WE WILL BE AWARDING DOOR PRIZES DURING THE BANQUET!

SPORTSMANSHIP
ARIEL MORTON OF HOUSTON, TEXAS was chose by the officials and tournamnet staff to receive the Sportsmanship award. All participants, however, were deserving of recognition as members of an outstanding group of players. Congratulations to Ariel and to all players in our tournament!

AWARDS
Awards will be given for First, Second, Third, Fourth and Consolation in Singles, and for First and Second in Doubles. In addition, a Sportsmanship Award will also be given to the player who demonstrates overall positive sportsmanship on and off the court throughout the event.

WITHDRAWALS
Players who withdraw after the deadline must immediately contact ATC via email, atc@ci.arlington.tx.us, regarding the need to withdraw. Bona fide reasons for withdrawal are illness, injury and personal emergency. Players may NOT withdraw from one site in order to gain acceptance into another site. All withdrawals for reasons other than illness, injury and personal emergency are considered defaults. All withdrawals must be made in writing (email, fax or regular mail), and the withdrawal must come from the players or legal guardians. Players who withdraw more than one week before the tournament will receive a full refund. Players who withdraw less than one week prior to the tournament will not receive a refund.

FORMAT
The format for Singles will be best of three sets, regular scoring, with a full feed-in through the quarter finals. The format for Doubles will be 8-game prosets, regular scoring, tie-break at 8 all, single elimination.

SCHEDULING
Singles matches will begin on Saturday morning (see draws for times), May 21. Singles: Main draw will have two rounds scheduled on Saturday, and Consolation will have one round scheduled on Saturday. Sunday through Wednesday, Main draw will have one round scheduled per day, and Consolation will have two rounds scheduled per day. Doubles: Doubles will begin on Saturday evening, May 21, after Singles play, with no more than two rounds scheduled per day. Note: inclement weather may necessitate adjustments in the schedule.

DRAWS
*THE DRAWS FOR THIS TOURNAMENT HAVE BEEN UPDATED ON LINE, AND RESULTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO THE FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM AND DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Prior to the completion of first round matches, players who withdraw may be replaced with alternates who are not yet in the tournament. *Based on available information, the top four players from each section were separated in the draw, and the Tournament Director also separated players from the same town (and Section, when possible) for first round matches. *The draws will be updated nightly after all rounds for the day have been completed in both singles and doubles. In addition, results will be reported to both area newspapers (Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Dallas Morning News) daily. *Draw size for Singles is limited to 64, and draw size for Doubles is limited to 32 teams.

SEEEDING
Seeding for this tournament was done based upon the latest available 14s National Standing Lists. Other resources used in the seeding process were NSLs from lower age divisions, advice of USTA National Coaching Staff, Final National Ranking Lists for the previous year, Sectional or District lists and player records. The Tournament Committee (the Referee, the Tournament Director, the Tournament Coordinator and other Tournament staff) is responsible for seeding, with input from the national junior competitive department.

OFFICIALS and POINT PENALTY SYSTEM
All officials for this event are certified by the USTA. In addition to the Referee, we will have at least one roving official for every four courts. The Main Draw Semi Finals and Finals, the Consolation Finals, and the Doubles Final will be chaired matches. The Point Penalty System (PPS) will be strictly enforced.

A professional sports photographer, John Tyler of Action Photography, will be on site during the tournament! You will be able to see and purchase snaps of yourself and your friends on the web. Say CHEESE!

Arlington Tennis Center is located directly across the street from Medical Center of Arlington, one of our area's largest hospitals. In addition, ATC will have a certified trainer on site throughout the tournament, courtesy of Medical Center of Arlington's brand new, state of the art, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center.

ICE WATER
To comply with Health Department guidelines, water coolers are not on placed on courts. However, free cups, ice and water are available at the proshop, and players are welcome to purchase water, fountain drinks, sports drinks and juices in the proshop. Players may also bring their own water jugs on court.

DRESS CODE
We ask that all players and spectators wear traditional attire appropriate for a family tennis environment. All guests (players and spectators) are required to wear shirts (including ladies wearing shirts over sports bras), and no bare stomachs / abdomens. Shorts and skirts should be of an appropriate length, as well. Thank you for your cooperation.

Players are selected from a designated Section or District ranking list.
Entry to this tournament is restricted. To see how entrants will be selected, follow the “Selection Process” link to the left. It is the player’s responsibility to check the selection list(s) after registering online to be sure that a check mark appears beside the player’s name on the list, in order to insure proper registration. Entries must be submitted by Thursday, April 28, 2005 12 Noon Eastern Time. Only USTA members can register online if available.
