Notes
2016 is the eighth year for this junior tournament!
Boys and girls (divisions 16, 14 and 12 & under) from City
neighborhoods and as far away as Madrid, Spain, Puerto Rico,
Florida, and Texas have competed in the only junior tournament held
on red clay in all of western Pennsylvania. This USTA-sanctioned
and USTA-officiated event is organized by the Frick Park Clay Court
Tennis Club, a community tennis association (CTA). ---
This open junior tournament accepts both City and non-City
residents and has no USTA or other entry ranking requirements. For
residents of USTA MS Allegheny Mountain District, the 12u players
accumulate points towards a district ranking. For residents of USTA
Middle States section, the 14u and 16u event players accumulate
points towards a MS section ranking. Entries are open and players
of all levels - novice to experienced junior tournament players -
are encouraged to enter. Large draws for each event along with
players from out of town ensure local players are exposed to a
great variety of other players. Players in 12u singles will play a
compass draw with a minimum of 3 matches, Players in 14u and 16u
singles will player a single elimination draw with a first match
losers consolation draw. All doubles events are Round Robin, with
teams playing short matches against every other team in their draw.
To make the most of their tournament experience, relative novices
are encouraged to participate in the Junior Mini-Camp (ages 10-16)
at Frick Park the previous week. ---
All Main Draw first match losers are entered into a Full
Consolation Draw. Main Draw singles matches are best 2 out of 3
tiebreak sets and are held Monday to Friday, all day, 8 a.m. to
dusk, with Main Draw Singles Finals on Saturday at 12:00PM Noon to
be followed by all Singles Consolation Draws. All doubles are
scheduled for Friday, 8 a.m. - dusk. Doubles events are Round
Robin. Sunday is reserved as a rainday if needed. All schedules
subject to change and weather permitting - match schedules posted
online at tournament website. ---
