Seeding
Since the Georgia Junior Open is a USTA Southern Level 3 Tournament, we must follow the STA SEEDING CRITERIA, which are: SINGLES Seeding shall be done using only the results from most recently published USTA Southern Combined Standings Lists of the division in the order in which players appear on the list. The most current list is the most recently published list on the day of the entry deadline. Players who have a standing in the next younger age division will be inserted into the seeds using the STA Seeding Calculator. Players with current top 50 USTA National standing, top 100 ITF ranking, top 1000 ATP or WTA rankings will be considered for seeding. Players from outside the Southern Section may be seeded based on National Standing and player record.
DOUBLES Teams shall be seeded in the order of their combined standings (e.g., Player A is #1 on the current standing list and Player B is #10. The Team of A & B would have a standing of 11.)
|
Match Scoring Formats
Because of heat all Singles matches on Saturday will play 2 sets with a Match Tiebreak in lieu of a 3rd set. On Sunday and thereafter Main Draw Singles (Ages 12-18) will play the Best of 3 sets. BG10's and all Consolations will play 2 sets with a Match Tiebreak in lieu of a 3rd set. Doubles will play 8-game pro-sets with a "first to 10 points" match tie-treak at 8-all.
|
Rest periods between singles matches
The following heat policy will be implemented: When players are scheduled to play 2 singles matches in one day, they will be offered a rest period equal to the length of their first match (up to 3 hours). They will be offered a minimum of 2 hours rest regardless of first match length. This rest period guideline does not apply to doubles.

Electronic Devices Prohibited on court
Players may not use electronic devises on court that are designed for communication (cell phones, pda's, etc.) or data storage/display (pocket notebook, rolodex, word processor, etc.). Use of these devices (except during the 3-minute coaching break between the second set and a match-deciding tiebreak) will result in immediate code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct. (A device that is in the "ON" mode constitutes use.) Notes and printed material brought on court for reference with a player are permitted.
|
5-Minute Scheduling will be used. For several years we used 5-Minute scheduling and it has been very successful. Scheduling every 5 minutes will mean that very few matches will be scheduled as part of a group, except for the large group of matches that will start each day. Check your match time carefully so that you won’t be late.

Player Eligibility and Player Selection
ALL USTA members are eligible to play, regardless or state or nation of residence. Draw sizes are unlimited, so there is no selection process. You will be admitted to whichever event you enter.
|
Doubles are USTA National Level 5 events. If you are an aspiring national level player, it is often difficult to break into national level events because selections are based on National Standings. To have a National Standing, you have to play in a tournament that awards National Points. If you don't have any points, your lack of points will generally prohibit you from being admitted to a National event, where National Points may be earned. So, what can you do to get just a few points? This year's GA Jr Open offers National ranking points for doubles only in the 12, 14, 16, 18 age groups. . We suggest that you take advantage of this opportunity!
|
10 and under Court, Racquet, and Scoring Formats
Boys/Girls 10s will play all matches on a 60-foot court 10's must use a 25-inch racquet. Racquet longer than 25 inches will not be allowed. Low compression balls suitable for 60-foot courts will be used. Singles matches will play two sets with at match tiebreak played in lieu of a thrid set. If you are a new 10 and under player, see the special membership offer below.
|
Competitors in the GA Jr. Open to Become “National Players” on TennisRecruiting.net Due to the strength of the competitors in the 2010 Georgia Jr. Open, this tournament in 2011 will be in a class that will determine “national players” on TennisRecruiting.net. Heretofore a "national player" is one who has competed in a USTA Level 1-3 tournament or in one of the Sectional tournaments that count for USTA national rankings. Because of the reduction in size of many of the USTA tournaments on its national schedule, TennisRecruiting.net is allowing several tournaments in 2011 to determine additional “national players” for its ranking system. This upgraded qualification is done annually. All 2011 competitors in the Georgia Jr. Open will become “national players” on TennisRecruiting.net.
