TWO DOWN, ONE TO GO . . .
Once again on Saturday, the wind kept things interesting! While players burned up the courts, fans fought off hypothermia with sweatshirts and blankets! A slight backup in afternoon matches led to a switch to prosets for doubles--a fortunate choice, because just as the last match came off the courts, the sprinkles started, which was a light rain a short time later. Look for things slightly warmer Sunday, but still may not make it out of the 60s. Keep on swinging!

DRAWS ARE NOW POSTED!!!
There have been a few changes generally we have tried to contact you if there was a major change to your first match time or following match schedule, but not necessarily if there was a minor change to follow up match scheduled. We will attempt to contact you if there are any changes after this point, but we don't have complete up-to-date phone #'s and e-mails for all of you, so be sure to check again before leaving for the courts on Friday. Call Dennis at 651-983-6798 or Brice at 651-373-9702 if you see any errors or conflicts between singles and doubles times, etc. Girls 14 doubles will be posted shortly.

TOURNAMENT MAIN LOCATION IS WOODBURY HIGH SCHOOL
Courts in the surrounding area may be used if needed--your willingness to transport your child to these nearby courts is greatly appreciated! Woodbury H.S. is located at 2665 Woodlane Dr Woodbury, MN (do NOT mail registration information to this address!!!). From I-494 just south of I-94 in Woodbury take the Lake Road exit east, turn left on Woodlane, the school is a block or so down on the right. (See map link under "more info".) Matches scheduled here will be marked on the draw as "WHS". Note also that the "Woodbury Days" festival is being held near this location, so there may be some traffic and parking concerns--please allow plenty of time to arrive at your match (ESPECIALLY during Friday afternoon rush hour!), and check this website later for further instructions.

NEW SECONDARY TOURNAMENT SITE--EAST RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL (ERHS)!!!
We are not able to hold all of the matches at Woodbury HS, but the Woodbury area has a new high school opening this fall which we will use for some of our matches. This will be denoted as ERHS on the schedule for matches. ERHS is located at 4200 Pioneer Dr., Woodbury, MN--about 3 miles from Woodbury HS. It is on the south side of Bailey Rd. just east of Radio Drive. Unfortunately, the internet mapfinders (mapquest, googlemaps, yahoomaps) don't have it pinpointed quite yet. (In fact, if you go to satellite view mode, all you'll see is the empty field that was there last year when their pictures were taken! Yes, the tennis courts really are there now!) Mapquest.com seems to do the best--try the "more info" link, or search for bailey road and pioneer drive in Woodbury, MN. From WHS, head south on Woodlane Dr., and turn left (east) on Bailey Rd.--about a mile and a half on the right. From I-494, take the Hwy 61 exit north, and immediately take the Maxwell Ave/Bailey Rd. exit follow Bailey Rd. east for about 4 mi. From I 94, take the Radio Drive exit south about 4 mi., left on Bailey Rd. and it's on your right.

ERHS: Boys 16&18 Singles on Fri pm and Sat am, and ALL MATCHES ON SUNDAY
We will use the East Ridge HS courts on Friday afternoon for Boys 16 singles, and Saturday morning for Boys 16 & 18 singles matches. Boys 16 & 18 players may go directly to ERHS to check it--it is not necessary to check in at WHS. (Note that boys 16 & 18 doubles Saturday afternoon will be at WHS.) Then, on Sunday, ALL MATCHES FOR ALL AGES WILL BE HELD AT ERHS! The Woodbury Days parade is held on Sunday, which ends in the WHS parking lot. While it can be fun to see the floats, parking at times is extremely difficult (not to mention the distraction of the noise) so rather than deal with that we will play all Sunday matches at ERHS. If you don't have a match between 1:00 - 3:00, feel free to run over and check out the parade!

BRING WATER!
There are no drinking fountains by the courts, so please have enough water or sports drinks to stay hydrated for your matches!

IN CASE OF RAIN
it may be necessary to modify match times. Please DO NOT assume that just because it is raining where you are that it is also raining at the courts! Recheck the website for updated match times, or call 651-458-2350 for a recording with the latest tournament information, or if necessary call one of the tournament officials' cell phones . If matches get too far behind schedule, it may also be necessary to change match format (e.g. prosets). If there is rain, once it stops we can often have courts dry for playing within 20 or 30 minutes--it is helpful if you can be at or near the courts. If you want to track the weather radar, click the "more info"--it's usually easy to see what is heading our direction.

GENERAL TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
Singles and doubles for boys age divisions 10 -18, and girls divisions 10 - 14 are offered (note: girls 16 & 18 not offered due to restrictions on High School Varsity and JV players during their season. Girls in the 14 year old division who hope to play Varsity or JV should NOT register for the tournament). Players with little or no tournament experience are encouraged to participate! As an entry-level Challenger 2 tournament, the emphasis is on participation, learning, and having fun! Matches are expected to begin about 2:00 p.m. on Friday, and continue 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Sunday (most singles matches completed by 3:00 p.m. on Sat. & Sun.). We ask that you be as available and flexible during those times as possible, especially if there are weather issues. If there are particular time conflicts, let us know by 8/21 and we MAY be able to adjust scheduling (but no guarantees--we still need to keep the draws on schedule, and meet USTA player restrictions on the number of matches per day).

Match/Draw Format
Early round and all consolation matches will be 2 of 3 sets, with a match tiebreak played in place of a third set (first to 10, win by 2). A regular tiebreak (first to 7, win by 2) should be played at 6-6 in the first 2 sets. Main draw semifinals and finals will play a full third set. In case of delays due to weather, the tournament directors reserve the right to change format (e.g. 8 game proset). At least 2 matches are guaranteed, except in some doubles brackets with only 2 teams participating. However format for the draws varies based on number of players, so even after a loss, BOTH PLAYERS SHOULD REPORT BACK TO THE TOURNAMENT OFFICIAL TO RECORD SCORES AND VERIFY NEXT MATCH TIME. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE TOURNAMENT UNTIL AN OFFICIAL HAS VERIFIED THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE ANOTHER MATCH SCHEDULED. Players who lose in the semifinals generally have a 3rd place game. Most draws will be set up as "modified consolation", meaning a loss in the first or second round of the main draw (second round may be a players first match if they had a first round bye) drops a player to the consolation bracket. Draws of 5 or 6 may be scheduled as full feed consolation draws of 4 or less will be round robin. First round consolation may be used when all players are guaranteed 2 matches (e.g. 6 or 8 players/teams) Draws will be posted by 8:00 p.m. on Wed. 8/26.

MATCH SCHEDULES
First of all, we would like to ask you for, and thank you for, your patience. There may be times during the tournament when matches get backed up somewhat (due to weather, longer-than-expected matches, or a player requesting required rest time between matches if an earlier match went long or late). We will get matches on the courts as quickly as possible in the order they were originally scheduled. That said, please be at the courts 15 minutes before the scheduled match time to check in and prepare to go on court. If you are unexpectedly late (e.g. caught in traffic), at least call the tournament director's cell phone to let him know--if we know you are coming, we may be able to hold the match if not, or if a follow-up match time requires us to move on, you may be defaulted from the match. Also, if for any reason you need to withdraw from a match or the tournament, please inform a tournament official so your opponent can be informed they don't need to show up.
