Doubles Only Players, Please Note If we have rain, and postponed matches, doubles will be the first ones delayed. In a draw of 64 doubles players, there are 5 rounds and 31 matches to be played. In a draw of 64 singles players there are 9 rounds for consolation players and 123 total matches to be played. Simple mathematics tells us that when court time is limited, singles must take priority, if we are to complete the tournament in the allotted time.

Match Scoring Formats
Singles - regular scoring (2 out of 3 sets), Consolation - 2 out of 3 sets with 3rd set match tie-break Doubles - 8-game pro-sets with a match tie-treak at 8-all.
|
Rest periods between singles matches
The following heat policy will be implemented: When players are scheduled to play 2 singles matches in one day, they will be offered a rest period equal to the length of their first match (up to 3 hours). They will be offered a minimum of 2 hours rest regardless of first match length. This rest period guideline does not apply to doubles.
|
5-Minute Scheduling will be used. Last year we used 5-Minute scheduling and it was very successful. Scheduling every 5 minutes will mean that very few matches will be scheduled as part of a group, except for the large group of matches that will start each day. Check your match time carefully so that you won’t be late.
|
Electronic Devices Prohibited on court
Players may not use electronic devises on court that are designed for communication (cell phones, pda's, etc.) or data storage/display (pocket notebook, rolodex, word processor, etc.). Use of these devices will result in immediate code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct. (A device that is in the "ON" mode constitutes use.) Notes and printed material brought on court for reference with a player are permitted.

WHAT DOES NATIONAL LEVEL 5 DOUBLES MEAN TO YOU? If you are an aspiring national level player, it is often difficult to break into national level events because selections are based on National Standings. To have a National Standing, you have to play in a tournament that awards National Points. If you don't have any points, your lack of points will generally prohibit you from being admitted to a National event, where National Points may be earned. So, what can you do to get just a few points? This year's GA Jr Open offers National ranking points for doubles only. While the number of points is not large, they are NATIONAL points nonetheless, and could make the difference in you being selected for a National Open, USTA Regional tournament, or other National event. The points available range from 1 (8 X .15 = 1.2) for the winner of one match in the round of 128 to 13 (88 X .15 = 13.2) each for the two champions. If you win just one doubles match you will get National ranking points. As you progress though the draw the weighted (15% of singles) points for each round won are as follows: 128 - 1 64 - 2 32 - 4 16 - 6 Qtr - 8 Runner-up - 11 Champion - 13. These numbers may not be impressive, but they will be the first opportunity many of you have to gain National Ranking Points. We suggest that you take advantage of this opportunity!

Seeding
Since the Georgia Junior Open is a USTA Southern Level 3 Tournament, we must follow the STA SEEDING CRITERIA, which is: SINGLES Seeding shall be done using only the results from most recently published USTA Southern Combined Standings Lists of the division in the order in which players appear on the list. The most current list is the most recently published list on the day of the entry deadline. Players who have a standing in the next younger age division may be seeded in any group of seeds if they are in the top 10 of the most recently published USTA Southern Combined Standings Lists of any younger age division. Players with current top 50 USTA National standing, top 100 ITF ranking, top 1000 ATP or WTA rankings should be considered for seeding. Players from outside the Southern Section may be seeded based on National Standing and player record.
DOUBLES Teams shall be seeded in the order of their combined standings (e.g., Player A is #1 on the current standing list and Player B is #10. The Team of A & B would have a standing of 11.)
|
No Selection Process. All registered players will be selected.
Entry to this tournament is open to all USTA members. Entries must be submitted by Tuesday, July 14, 2009 11:59:00 PM Eastern Time. Only USTA members can register online if available.
In the future, you can jump straight to this tournament by entering the tournament identification number: 703460609 from the searchable schedule homepage.
