National Level 5 Doubles !!
WHAT DOES NATIONAL LEVEL 5 DOUBLES MEAN TO YOU?
If you are an aspiring national level player, it is often difficult to break into national level events because selections are based on National Standings.
To have a National Standing, you have to play in a tournament that awards National Points. If you don't have any points, your lack of points will generally prohibit you from being admitted to a National event, where National Points may be earned.
This "rich get richer" scenario is a fact of life for a points per round selection system.
So, what can you do to get just a few points?
This year's Top Gun Academy Doubles Championship offers National ranking points for doubles only. While the number of points is not large, they are NATIONAL points nonetheless, and could make the difference in you being selected for a National Open, USTA Regional tournament, or other National event.
The points available range from 1 (8 X .15 = 1.2) for the winner of one match in the round of 128 to 13 (88 X .15 = 13.2) each for the two champions.
If you win just one doubles match you will get National ranking points.
As you progress though the draw the weighted (15% of singles) points for each round won are as follows:
128 - 1 64 - 2 32 - 4 16 - 6 Qtr - 8 Runner-up - 11 Champion - 13.
These numbers may not be impressive, but they will be the first opportunity many of you have to gain National Ranking Points.
We suggest that you take advantage of this opportunity!

STARTING DATE
For your schedule, we will plan on starting the tournament on SATURDAY October 11th. In many draws, the tournament will be completed on Sunday October 12th. Any draw over 16 teams will be completed on Monday, October 13th. Please be prepared to play 3 matches a day in the consolation draws so that we can complete as many divisions on Sunday as possible.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
This is a Southern Level 3 DOUBLES tournament utilizing a FULL FEED IN draw. This is a change from the original COMPASS draw due to the lack of consolation ranking points awarded to compass draws. It really makes no sense to play a compass draw even though it provides you with more match play, the ranking points are almost non-existent utilizing a compass draw, hence the switch to FULL FEED IN. Each match will be best two of three sets in the main draw. Consolation matches will be best two of three sets with a third set tiebreaker.

In an effort to promote match play and completing tournaments, players will be assigned one (1) suspension point for any match that is not played due to walkover, withdrawal, or default. While players do sustain serious injuries or do become ill, players pulling out of tournaments have become too common. The intent of this is to promote play, not punish players. Players are not suspended until they receive 10 total suspension points.
