THANKS TO ALL PARENTS & PLAYERS
Thanks to all the Players, their parents, and the different facilities that helped and cooperated to make this the one of the largest Kingstowne L5 tournament to date. Over +120 players participated in 10 different categories using 4 different sites, with 21 special avoidance requests honored. Although the scheduling was difficult, in general the tournament went off almost completely on Schedule. As far as sportsmanship I like to congratulate all champions and finalist for their great behavior on the court. Also I want to thank all court monitors, and referees that assisted me in this large event. I'll look forward to see you in the next Kingstowne Junior Open. Sincerely, AJ Yamin USTA TD

Update; Thur 4:30
My E-mail is not sending out messages, so I will have to wait until I get home to specifically respond to the emails received. I appreciate the understanding and cooperation. please continue to review the draws. For those that have players entered into 2 events, per our note put out before the entries closed, we do not accept multiple entries in events other than single elimination events. The system does not support this, and with 120+ players, it is vertually impossible to keep up with all the possible combinations that can occur. See Avoidance Request - Multiple event entries below. Please let us know which event you chose to remain as soon as possible. This may help someone else that needs to move matches. Thanks - Bernie

CHANGES - SIGNIFICANT ON SATURDAY/SUNDAY
mia copa - In my attempt to meet all the avoidance requests and satisfy reasonable times for the Main draw, I was unable to accomodate the back draw. To accomodate the back draw, many matches were moved on Saturday and Sunday to earlier start times. We lose the use of most of high school courts on Sunday. . My mistake, and my apology. Hopefully the revised schedule will continue to meet the request of most of the players. I realize that I probably missed some of the more subtile requests. I won't be there to catch the flack, so please be kind to the TD and the Officials that are there to help you.

Match times / Schedules
The schedules will be posted as quickly as possible on the web site. It is the responsibility of the player to be aware of their match time - Not the responsibility of the TD or the Official. Although timely schedule updates will be provided, no-shows, and withdrawals from the back draw's are common. Please check the web often, and particularly just before you leave for your match. If in any doubt, call the TD before leaving to determine if they have been notified of a withdrawal.

OFFICIATING
There will be one official, 1 or 2 court monitors, as well as the Tournament Director who will be roving between the 4 sites. Due to many events in the the Washignton metro area and across the Mid-Atlantic section, it is very difficult for Tournament Directors to get extra officials. It is ask that Players play by the USTA code. The Official will be available to help resolve disputes, and interprete rules. They are not there to call lines, but will issue code violations for unsportsmanlike conduct if it becomes evident that a player is abusing the code by calling obvious balls that are in, out. A player is entitled to stop play and request an official at any time during the match if an Official is within reasonable distance of that match. They will need to contact the Tournament Director, who will be in contact with the Officials.

WHAT IF YOU SHOW UP LATE?
- The L5 event is a learning experience for many players, so some lienancy is often shown if the player notifies the TD that they are stuck in traffic, etc and will be there shortly. Usually a maximum of 30 minutes is requested of the player that is waiting before a default is given. Remember, the primary purpose of L5 events is to gain experience by playing other players. Expect to be penalized if late, but also if you are waiting, show the same consideration to the player that you will want shown to you under similar situations. For L1. L2, L3, L4 events, we use the USTA FAC rules of 5:00 MINUTES or LESS = LOSS OF TOSS* PLUS * 1 GAME; 5:01-10:00 MINUTES = LOSS OF TOSS * PLUS 2 GAMES; 10:01-15:00 = LOSS OF TOSS * PLUS 3 GAMES; MORE THAN 15 MINUTES = DEFAULT

FMLC explanation
A first Match Loss Consolation event can be confusing. Example: a player is playing their second match against a player that is playing their first match. If the player that is playing their second match loses, they are out of the tournament. If the player that is playing their first match loses, they will be placed in the back draw. This creates some confusion because the schedule is generated under the premise that the player that is playing their first match always loses. This is often not the case. When that happens, the back draw scheudule is impacted. For example, Using players 1 through 4. #1 has a bye, player 3 defeats #4. #4 is now in the back draw. If #1 loses to #3, then #4 playes #1. If #1 wins, then #4 advances to the next round in the back draw. When this happens, there is some flexibility in the schedule, so keep up with the schedule every day. If you see this might happen, contact the Referee and we will attempt to accomodate changes if both players agree. Hope this helps.

SCHEDULING, WARM-UP & MATCH FORMATS
In order for the tournament to flow as smoothly as possible, players are required to be on site, ready to play, 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start of each match. Throughout the day, matches will be put on court as soon as an open court is available, which may in some cases be prior to the scheduled start time. Warming-up: Players have five minutes to warm-up with their opponent from the time the match is called. To keep the tournament on-schedule, the 5-minute warm-up will be strictly enforced. Match Formats: ALL PLAYERS MUST BE AWARE THAT THE MATCH FORMAT FOR THE MAIN DRAW OF THIS TOURNAMENT WILL BE TWO OUT OF THREE SET, AND A 10-POINT MATCH TIE-BREAK IN LIEU OF THE DECIDING THIRD SET. THE BACK DRAW (CONSOLATION) WILL USE THE 8 GAME SET(WIN BY 2) , WITH A 7 POIINT TIE-BREAK AT 8-8.

Avoidance Request - Multiple event entries
We will try to honor Avoidance requests when they are reasonable. The Avoidance will only apply to the Main draw. Please do not enter more than one event. With any tournament other than a single elimination, keeping track of avoidance requests for multiple events requires extensive review and impacts too many other players involved in the draw.

FRIDAY EVENING PLAY
