They will be offered a minimum of 2 hours rest regardless of first match length. This rest period guideline does not apply to doubles.
|
Electronic Devices Prohibited on court
Players may not use electronic devises on court that are designed for communication (cell phones, pda's, etc.) or data storage/display (pocket notebook, rolodex, word processor, etc.). Use of these devices will result in immediate code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct. (A device that is in the "ON" mode constitutes use.) Notes and printed material brought on court for reference with a player are permitted.
|
MEDICAL RELEASES
USTA requires a medical release SIGNED BY THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN for every player. This form must be presented at the time of tournament registration. Please download and bring this completed with you. Players are not allowed on court without this signed release: The Southern form seems to be missing in action, so the link will take you to the Georgia form, which will have to suffice. We will have blank forms at check-in, so downloading one isn't urgent.

5-Minute Scheduling will be used. Last year we used 5-Minute schduling and it was very successful. Scheduling every 5 minutes will mean that very few matches will be scheduled as part of a group, except for the large group of matches that will start each day. Check your match time carefully so that you won’t be late.

WHAT DOES NATIONAL LEVEL 5 DOUBLES MEAN TO YOU?
If you are an aspiring national level player, it is often difficult to break into national level events because selections are based on National Standings.
To have a National Standing, you have to play in a tournament that awards National Points. If you don't have any points, your lack of points will generally prohibit you from being admitted to a National event, where National Points may be earned. This "rich get richer" scenario is a fact of life for a points per round selection system. So, what can you do to get just a few points? This year's GA Jr Open offers National ranking points for doubles only. While the number of points is not large, they are NATIONAL points nonetheless, and could make the difference in you being selected for a National Open, USTA Regional tournament, or other National event. The points available range from 1 (8 X .15 = 1.2) for the winner of one match in the round of 128 to 13 (88 X .15 = 13.2) each for the two champions. If you win just one doubles match you will get National ranking points. As you progress though the draw the weighted (15% of singles) points for each round won are as follows: 128 - 1 64 - 2 32 - 4 16 - 6 Qtr - 8 Runner-up - 11 Champion - 13. These numbers may not be impressive, but they will be the first opportunity many of you have to gain National Ranking Points. We suggest that you take advantage of this opportunity!

Doubles Deadline is noon Wednesday You have until noon Wednesday to designate your doubles partner, withdraw, or enter if you have not already. Email gajropen@goodsports.us to make any changes. If you don't designate a partner, we will assign one to you.

Doubles Registration Changes for 2008 To allow players to play singles and doubles as concurrently as possible, USTA GA State Championships will start doubles on the first day of the tournament. Doubles registration will be done on-line and via email only. Below are the details.
Doubles deadline will be 6:00p.m., the day after on-line singles entries close. After the on-line registration deadline and before the doubles deadline:- If you did not register on-line, you can register for doubles only by email.
- If you registered on-line and want to withdraw after the on-line registration deadline, you must do it by email.
- You may indicate or change your partner by email.
- After the doubles deadline, if you entered, either on-line or via email, without indicating a partner, you will be randomly paired with a partner by the tournament.
- If an odd number of players are entered, and you are drawn last, you will be put in the draw without a partner. You will have until 24 hours before your first scheduled doubles match to find a partner. If you fail to find a partner, you will be taken out of the draw and put on the waiting list.
- If you decide after the doubles deadline that you want to play doubles, you will be put on a doubles waiting list.
- If you sign up for doubles, either on-line or via email, and fail to show up for your scheduled doubles match, you will be given suspension points for "default-no show."
Check the First Match Time report for both your first singles match time and first doubles match time.

Seeding In an event such as this with some playing out of age group, and limited head to head results, seeding borders on impossible. The 2008 Friend at Court forbids the use of any rank list as the sole criteria for seeding. With that in mind we have attempted to honor the STA standings by filling approximately one half of the seeds from that list and filling the remainder with the most deserving players. With limited current head to head results, we have used as many sources as possible to complete the seedings. Appearance on any "ranking" or "standing" list does not necessarily relate to the quality of play, but more to the quantity of play. We will gladly accept your comments, as long as, they don't refer to standings, rankings or point totals. If adjustments are supported by match results, they will be made. Appeals must be received by 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.
