Sunday Matches Canceled
All Sunday matches have been canceled, while the weather improved, we did have two showers after 9am which impacted the time in which we thought we could have the courts ready. With the reality of not playing any matches until 1 or 2pm, seriously limiting match play, with the risk of showers still strong, we decided to cancel. We believe this was the most fair way to treat the players, as offering you credits for future tournaments will make it possible for you to get your full entry fee's worth, as opposed to us guaranteeing you only one match, which even last night we were frustrated about.
We ask that you please take us up on our offer to credit your entry as dealing with refund checks through the school will not be an easy process. In issuing credits, we will use our fee report from this tournament for future events. Once the entries have opened for the event you wish to play, simply email me at jscalese@scu.edu You will NOT be able to register online to get your credit and we will not be able to make changes for you if you do enter online. Entries for our early April tournament will be open soon, as for those using their credit, they can begin emailing as soon as entries open. We will prioritize those with credits in the event we need to limit entries. If you have any questions about the process please email me, I will be sending one final email to the players this evening after we have wrapped up things at SCU.
Thanks again for your patience and we hope this gives you some time to enjoy your Sunday.

FINAL DRAW POSTING- TOURNAMENT CREDIT OFFERED FOR CANCELLED EVENTS
WITH CONTINUED RAIN WE HAVE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO CANCEL ALL DOUBLES EVENTS!
ALL REMAINING MATCHES WILL BE PLAYED WITH NO-AD SCORING AND WITH A MATCH TIEBREAK IN LIEU OF THE THIRD SET.
CHECK THE DRAWS FOR YOUR MATCH TIMES. IF THERE IS NO SCHEDULED TIME FOR YOUR MATCH, THAT MATCH WILL NOT BE PLAYED. (AS IT IS, YOU'LL SEE THAT SOME MATCHES ARE SCHEDULED TO START AS LATE AS 10:00pm, SO IF YOUR MATCH HAS BEEN CANCELED YOU MAY BE HAPPY ABOUT THAT.) FOR THOSE FEW WHO HAD REQUESTED SPECIAL SCHEDULING, THAT WENT OUT THE WINDOW WITH THE RAIN. SORRY.
SOMETIMES NATURE JUST DOESN'T WANT TO COOPERATE, BUT FOR ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN SO PATIENT WITH US WHILE WE TRIED TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN, A GENUINE THANK YOU FROM ALL OF US ON STAFF.

Credits given to players who don't play
Echoing Max's comments, we have had a lot of support on this one and we appreciate the patience of the players who have made it easy for us to try to deal with this tough situation. As mentioned throughout the week, we do not have the ability to cancel a day of tennis until noon that day... so this same procedure will be used tomorrow if necessary. We are obligated to give as many people the opportunity the chance to play as possible and we believe this has been done. All doubles categories that have been canceled are offered a credit to any other SCU tournament that we hold. If we are canceled tomorrow, this will obviously apply to singles as well. We hope the players will take us up on this offer. If you have questions, please email me at jscalese@scu.edu
Thanks for your support and as Max said, let's hope for some sunshine on Sunday.

Rain Issues
USTA NorCal policies will not allow us to cancel an entire day's matches until 12 noon, but we will not be required to make that decision. At noon, we will again evaluate whether to delay or to cancel the days matches. We will not continue this trend past 1 or 2pm.
Our top priority is the player's safety. We will not under any circumstances play matches if the conditions are not safe and ask that players please do not get frustrated if they feel the conditions are okay and we are not ready to send matches on. Likewise, we also are prioritizing not ruining a player's day by bringing them down to SCU without a chance of playing, and we will also be sure we respect their time and travel as much as possible. We respect that some players will be coming from outside the range of 2 hours, so if you are on the road at 11am, please call, if not please use the internet. Please trust that the voice mail will be up-to-date as will the internet.
If matches are canceled for Friday, it will be at the referee's discretion as to how to schedule, modify etc... matches for the rest of the weekend. The tournament cannot be canceled outright due to a poor forecast, it must be done on a daily basis no earlier than noon.
We thank you for your patience and appreciate your support.

Rain Issues/Delays/Cancellations and all that no so fun stuff!
Rain is an unfortunate fact of life with winter tournaments and our #1 priority will be great communication with our players and doing all we can to complete as much of the tournament as possible.
We have had diverse weather reports but are finding that escaping the weekend without any rain is very, very unlikely. Therefore, please make note of our rain/weather delay procedures.
We will have internet access at the courts, so we will first post a note in big red or blue letters on the tournament home page. Please be sure to check the tournament home page before leaving for the courts. Please do not email asking about weather updates. This should be the first place you look. Any message listed will be the most recent update, so no need to follow up with a phone call. Please note that the tournament phone for SCU is 408-429-0783... ask for tournament director Jason Scalese. The tournament phone for Sunnyvale Tennis Center is 408-314-6334... site referee Tim Mathews. Please do not under any circumstances use any other phone numbers (SCU or STC main numbers) to contact us as they will not have the necessary information. If a rain delay occurs, recordings will be left on each of the two tournament desk phone numbers. The recording on those phone numbers will be the most up-to-date recordings. In efforts to preserve time and efficiency, please do not leave messages asking about weather, simply refer to the recording and trust that it is updated. If you have internet access, please check the internet for weather updates first. If phone usage is inevitable, please feel free to call. Rain delay/postponements/cancellations are made by the referees. Examples of updates may include delays of a certain amount of time (i.e. matches are postponed 1 hour, matches are delayed until further notice etc...) USTA policy insist that we not cancel an entire day's play until at least noon. We appreciate your patience and understanding when it comes to whether or not we call off an entire day. Please note, there will be no cancellation of the entire tournament outright, rain will be treated as an hourly or daily issue. I.E. we would not cancel Sunday play until Sunday at noon.

Men's 3.5, 4.0- Thanks for the incredible support- We have split the draws!
Due to the incredible amount of entries in the men's 3.5, 4.0 singles, we did what we felt was best in order to accomodate all entries. In accordance with USTA rules, we have split the events into 3 smaller draws to assure all players had an opportunity to participate, as well as limiting Friday play as much as possible. Our tournament management software divided the categories into 3 randomly selected events.
