Draw Types: DON"T FORGET THE PLAYOFF FOR THIRD PLACE!
All Singles and Doubles draws will be Single Elimination. Players should expect to play the first day of the tournament when they sign up. After the semifinals. the winners will play in the finals, and the losers will complete in a playoff for 3rd and 4th place. The playoff is NOT a consolation match, and is required. See the Junior Handbook, page 8 under OPEN rules.

Thursday and Friday Withdrawals
We have had several withdrawals on Friday and it necessitated me spending several hours redoing some draws, reseeding the events, and then loooking through email, there were more draws late at night.
Players sent over 20 emails asking for special scheduling , so I needed to adjust the new draws for those requests.

Welcome to the Boys and Girls 10 age groups
2007 brings us the adventures of a new age group, the 10 and under boys and girls.Play is offered in SINGLES ONLY for these two groups. If this is a new experience for you, do not be afraid to ask for help either by email or phone. Email is preferred, as the director and referee are often on court or out of town with other tournaments and league events.

Prepare for an enjoyable club, efficient officials, and great tennis
If you have not played tennis at Alpine Hills, you have missed out on a great tournament, so maybe it's time to see what all the fun is about.......... Sign up and join us for a great week. Alpine Hills Tennis and Swim Club is located on the EAST side of the Santa Cruz Mountains, west of Stanford University. There is no bus service, but perhaps you can carpool.......... Food is available from the snack bar, or you can bring your own lunch and enjoy it in the shade or in the sun. There are benches and tables all over the club, and a deck overlooking the lower 9 courts. There is a pro shop with racquet stringing and tennis-related items.

Phone Number and Email not provided: Players must check draws for changes
The USTA no longer provides tournaments with your email or phone numbers. In order to know what changes have been made to the tournament draws, you will have to check your own draw online as late as the night before the tournament. To assist other players so they do not get caught up in arriving for a cancelled match, please do your best to withdraw as soon as you are unable to play. Do this by emailing the referee so your withdrawal will be time stamped.

DOUBLE YOUR FUN WITH DOUBLES
There is no more enjoyable form of tennis than doubles. The Alpine Hills draws are typically large, and the play is challenging. Doubles is not only a life-long format for tennis but it is a way to make a new friend, and maybe a life-long friend. Take a look at the applicant list on the internet, see if a friend is playing, and sign up for Alpine Doubles. Both of you must be paid before entries close in order to guarantee you a spot in the draw. Another great feature is you are not alone out there. In addition, this is the only time coaching is allowed-- from your partner! And you should see the trophies... Contact the referee at least a week ahead of the entry deadline if you need help contacting a potential partner.Once entries close, players without a designated partner will be not be included in the draw.

Weather considerations: TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
The week is likely to be hot, and with a full three sets of regular scoring, you may be playing long matches. How do you prepare? Hydrate yourself. Take in a lot of water before the match, get those carbs into your system and load up with vitamins, minerals and natural energy found in bananas and fresh fruit, so you don't cramp or weaken due to lack of preparation...... Once you get in trouble on court, you are in danger of not finishing your match...... Bring an extra shirt and socks, a large water jug so you will have plenty of water on court, sun glasses and a hat, a towel and sunscreen, a smile and energy. You have two minutes between sets, and a ten minute rest period before a third set (unless you are in the 18's age group, and they just get those two minutes). Here is a link to an article oh HYDRATION.>>

Withdrawing: These are the USTA rules
If you must withdraw before entries close, go into your TennisLink account and delete your entry, and your card will not be charged. If you withdraw more than 7 days before play starts, you are eligible for a refund. Between the time entries close and the 6 days before play starts, you can withdraw, but you may have to wait until the tournament receives all their fees to get a refund. As soon as entries close, we will do the draws, and your withdrawal may cost you penalty points, so plan wisely. BEGINNING JULY 30, NO REFUND WILL BE GIVEN FOR WITHDRAWALS. On the days the tournament is on, you need to phone us so that we might inform your opponent ASAP and possibly save them a drive if there will be no match. You also STILL need to email the referee (puajohnson@aol.com) with the reason; you are not eligible for a refund. Most likely the referee is not going to be on the internet until late at night, if at all, and it is too late to phone players then. These rules are on the USTA site.
