Withdrawals
WITHDRAWALS are sometimes necessary, and are only excused if they are for illness, injury, or family emergency.Withdrawals made before entries close can be handled by the player by going into your TennisLink record and deleting your entry..... Your credit card will not be charged. Withdrawals at least 7 days before play starts (that would be Monday June 11, since play starts June 18) are eligible for a refund. That refund will be processed once the tournament receives their final tournament fees, about a week or two after play is complete. Withdrawals dated June 12 or later are not eligible for a refund. If you must withdraw after entries close, immediately contact the referee by email. puajohnson@aol.com ..... If it is the day before matches begin (Sunday) , or any of the tournament playing days, please ALSO phone the tournament immediately (831 646 3881) so we may contact your opponent. Give your line number on the draw if you can. Speak slowly and clearly and spell the player name if necessary; be sure to give a return phone number. The email will be the determining factor for a refund. No one likes to drive to a tournament and check in at a hotel and find that their opponent has withdrawn and they could have been at home in their own bed that night, and saved that hotel or gasoline cost. For any withdrawal after entries close, please include a reason so we may pass it on to the USTA if necessary. Page 68, Item 8 of this USTA link will give you the exact regulation.>>

Take care of yourself and your driver
The usual "Mom and Dad" warnings are in effect. Hydrate (drink a lot) the week before matches begin. If cramping is ever a problem, eat bananas and supplements that may ward them off. Once you are on court, it is too late to plan ahead. Bring sunscreen, sun glasses, a towel, and a hat, as well as a container for water. Fill your water jug up at home or at the hotel--- there is nothing special about Monterey water, though we like it! We will have water and ice at all the sites. Bring a chair for your driver, and thank him or her for taking the time to bring you to the tournament. Suggest they bring a warm sweatshirt or jacket.

Checking the website: do it early and often
The USTA no longer automatically includes your email or any phone numbers to the tournament director and referee. Thus, you will need to be vigilant about checking the draws, once they are posted, for any changes. Be sure to check the Sunday night before play starts. The tournament may not be able to contact you. DRAWS WILL BE POSTED by June 15 by requirement of NorCal.

Weather the whether will be warm...
You can expect weather between 60 and 80 degrees. Players will probably want to remind their driver to bring a warm sweatshirt or jacket and long pants. Players will probably be happy in their usual tennis shorts and shirt, with perhaps a jacket for off-court wear. Afternoons are usually gorgeous once the morning fog clears. Here is a link to Weather Underground that will give you up-to-date weather. >>
