2020 "LITTLE MO" SLAM - WIN THE 6 FOOT TROPHY!
In honor of Maureen's Grand Slam win, MCB created the ultimate
challenge in 2013 for any player to win the "Little Mo" Slam. If a
"Little Mo" player can win their yellow ball division at all three
"Little Mo" Internationals in the same year, they will receive the
tallest trophy ever given in junior tennis (6' tall) and the title
of Slam Champion! The "Little Mo" Slam continues this year with the
1st leg at the Balboa Tennis Club in San Diego, California (June
19-24, 2020). The second leg will be held at the historic West Side
Tennis Club in Forest Hills, New York (August 24-29, 2020). The 3rd
and final leg will be featured at the PGA National Resort & Spa
in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida (December 4-9, 2020). There have
been eight players who have accomplished this great achievement in
the past seven years. Who will it be this year?
The "Little Mo" Internationals is one of the premier junior
tournaments for talented, high performance boys and girls (ages
8-12) in addition to the "Big Mo" division for ages 13-16. These
events are designed to provide outstanding competition at the
international level while also encouraging players to develop new
friendships, learn good sportsmanship, and most of all, have fun.
The "Little Mo" is also unique in that it gives youngsters the
opportunity to gauge their ability against other players born in
the same year from around the world (i.e., 8's play 8's, 9's play
9's). All singles and doubles yellow ball results from the three
"Little Mo" Internationals (California, New York, and Florida) will
count towards Universal Tennis Ratings (UTR only accepts yellow
ball results).
The "Little Mo" Internationals is our flagship event for
international players, which brings together the youngest and
brightest stars in tennis from across the United States and
worldwide. It is a great opportunity to play against others from
different countries and see various styles of play from around the
world. Many well-known collegiate players and famous tennis
professionals have participated in the "Little Mo" program over the
years including Andy Roddick, Dominic Thiem, Ryan Harrison, Coco
Gauff, Taylor Townsend, Vasek Pospisil, Borna Coric, Madison Keys,
Donald Young, Steve Johnson, Sonya Kenin, Denis Kudla, CiCi Bellis,
Ana Konjuh, and Belinda Bencic. Roddick won the "Little Mo" in 1992
at 10 years of age and said, "the 'Little Mo' was my first big
win!" Gauff won the "Little Mo" in 2012 (age 8) and said, "the
'Little Mo' was where the belief began."
2020 "ROAD TO THE LITTLE MO NATIONALS"
In addition to the Internationals, MCB hosts the "Road to the
Little Mo Nationals" circuit of sectional, regional, and national
tournaments across the United States. It is the only yearlong
circuit of its kind for talented, high performance boys and girls
(ages 8-12) who reside in the USA and its territories. All yellow
ball results from the Road will count towards Universal Tennis
Ratings (UTR only accepts yellow ball results). We hope you will
join us this year for the 23rd Annual "Road to the Little Mo
Nationals"! Please visit our website at www.mcbtennis.org
for more information on our 2020 calendar.
The "Little Mo" tournaments are hosted by MCB in memory of its
tennis champion namesake Maureen Connolly. Known by her nickname
"Little Mo", she was the first woman to win the Grand Slam in 1953
- winning all four major tournaments (Australian, French,
Wimbledon, and U.S. Open) in the same year. She is still the only
American woman and the youngest at age 18 to have accomplished this
magnificent feat. Only five players in the history of tennis have
won the calendar Grand Slam.
Thank you for your support of the "Little Mo" as it is truly a "one
of a kind" tournament for young tennis players. Last year,
approximately 3,000 youngsters worldwide competed in the "Little
Mo" and we hope to see even more youngsters play this wonderful
"sport of a lifetime" next year. We wish you all good luck in your
matches, but most of all, we hope you enjoy the tournament, have
fun, and meet some new friends. Play "Mo" Tennis!
