Tournament
communication - please enter
your email address when you register so that we might be able to reach you if
there is a problem. If you do not enter your email address, you may not receive
additional communications as needed. Please email the tournament director and
the referee with all correspondence or questions. Do not call the front desk - we may not get your question or
message. Check this website frequently for other information, weather updates,
etc. This tournament will be held over three days - July
17-19, 2020 (Friday through Sunday) with Open and NTRP components playing.
NTRP divisions: This
tournament has TOY designation for 3.0 and 4.0 NTRP divisions. For these
divisions only, players will earn 1-1/2 times the standard number of points per
round. In addition, in these divisions only, a 3/4 playoff will be held for
additional points for those players.
All players are limited to any two events at the same
NTRP level (unless there is not a draw in one of your events). You may also not
cross-over to play an Open event.
Format for NTRP play will be the
best of three sets with a match tiebreak in lieu of the third set. NTRP draw
limits are 32 players for singles and 16 teams for doubles. If the draw size
exceeds the limit, in non-TOY divisions, the tournament reserves the right to
select 25% of the draw, and the remaining 75% will be randomly drawn into the
event. In TOY events (3.0 and 4.0), the first 25% of the draw shall be
selected using the most recently published Grand Prix Points Race List of the
division in the order the players are listed; 25% of the draw may be selected
at the discretion of the Tournament Committee; and the remaining 50%, and if
there are any remaining spots not selected by rank or at the discretion of the
Tournament Committee, shall be selected by lot. Doubles and Mixed Doubles teams
will be selected based their combined ranking using the most recently published
Individual Doubles Grand Prix Points Race List for the division of the event.
Full refunds will be sent to those who do not get into the tournament should
the entry limit be exceeded. Please note that ALL events may have a Friday evening
(starting at 5 or 6 PM) start REGARDLESS OF DRAW SIZE.
Please be aware
that play may go very late on any evening, and that you may have a next day
early start, especially if you are electing to play in two events!
OPEN divisions: The Open event will have a minimum $5000 purse, and this will be divided among the events by the number of entries.
Players are limited to entering any two events in the Open division. They may
not cross-over to play in the NTRP division.
The Open
Division will be limited to 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams. If this
limit is exceeded, the tournament reserves the right to select up to 25% of the
entrants, and NorCal will then do the remaining selections based on UTRs. Full
refunds will be sent to those who do not get into the tournament should the
entry limit be exceeded.
Play will start no earlier than 11 AM on Friday for
singles. All Open singles (men and women) players MUST be able to play on
Friday if they enter this division. All other OPEN events may start later on
Friday regardless of the size of the draw.
Please be aware
that play may go very late on any evening, and that you may have a next day
early start, especially if you are electing to play in two events!
The format for all OPEN events will be the following:
Singles – we will use
a MTB in lieu of the third set for all matches until the quarterfinals. The
quarterfinals and beyond (semis and finals) will use the best of three tiebreak
sets. Doubles – we will use
the best of three tiebreak sets for all matches.
The
deadline to enter this tournament is Sunday, July 12th, at 11:59 PM.
No refunds will be given after entries close unless a player is not selected
due to a draw limitation. Draws and schedules will post no later than Tuesday, July
14th, 11:59 PM, for Friday play. The Saturday and Sunday schedule
may post one day later. Late players may not be accepted; so please enter on
time if you wish to play!
Please remember that
it is July and it might be very hot! Expect play on Saturday and Sunday to
start at 8 AM. Players should expect to play two matches per day per event
entered. Sometimes the scheduling is not kind, and playing four times in a day
can happen for all players. Singles tends to play earlier in the day, doubles
later - but please note that this is not a guarantee.
Avoidance Requests: are not
encouraged and will not be honored if they affect the smooth playing of an
event. What helps you may not be kind to others.
Rules of
Play: We applaud and expect good
sportsmanship from all participants, including coaches and spectators. We are
governed by the Code which dictates that benefit of line calls
should always be in favor of the opponent when there is doubt.
Lateness
penalties will be enforced. Players are
expected to check and comply with all scheduling done by the Tournament
Committee. A player is deemed to have arrived when the player checks in at the
place designated for checking in and is properly clothed, equipped, and ready
to play. The lateness penalty clock starts at the scheduled match time
regardless of court availability.
Appropriate tennis attire, including non-marking shoes,
is required for all matches. Clothing not considered proper tennis attire can
include, but not be limited to:
• Sports bras worn alone (without a shirt).
• Shirts with references to sex, drugs, alcohol or tobacco.
• Compression shorts worn alone (not covered by shorts or a skirt).
Please also note that ANY withdrawal in an adult
tournament is subject to two suspension points issued by NorCal, even if for an
excused reason. Hotel information is
pending.

Concurrent Tournament Rule
A player shall not be entered at the time entries close in two or more USTA sanctioned tournaments scheduled to take place at the same time, in whole or in part, unless each Tournament Committee involved understands the situation, concurs in writing, and each agrees to accommodate the player’s schedule. The final decision rests with each tournament committee. If one tournament agrees to accept concurrent entries and accommodate the player's schedule but the concurrent tournament does not, the player may not enter both. If entries for the overlapping tournaments close on different dates, approval must be received from all Tournament Committees no later than the entry closing date that occurs last. Players who enter a tournament and play it to completion, may then enter another tournament with overlapping dates without permission. If a player violates this concurrent tournament rule ranking points earned in any concurrent tournament played will not count toward ranking or the Grand Prix Points Race and the concurrent tournaments will not count toward the minimum tournament requirement to qualify for Grand Prix.
