Thank you for singing up for the tournament this weekend! It is the first L6 of the new system in Oklahoma and we are excited to try it out! We had a really large turnout for this event, only 6 indoor courts, and some club programming that I need to work around. I put in considerable hours on the schedule trying to make it all work. Fair warning: the schedule is not pretty. But all the matches are scheduled and will get played...that is the important thing!
New Format Notes (please read):
The scoring will not be the same for main draw singles and consolation singles. Please read the scoring notes carefully,
The consolation finals on both Boys 14s and Girls 14s will NOT BE PLAYED. Any draws that have 13+ players in them will NOT play the consolation final match.
L6 events are 2 day events in general. Oklahoma is trying to keep doubles as an option for indoor tournaments so USTA is allowing us to run matches on Friday evening to accommodate doubles. You will notice I scheduled some doubles on Friday.
Due to the complexity of this many matches/divisions on 6 courts, I did schedule tight. There is a chance we could run delayed. However, unless otherwise instructed from the tournament desk, please have your player check in 15 minutes prior to each match time. It is imperative that players are ready to go on the court when a court opens up in order to keep everything running smoothly and finish our days on time.
Scoring Formats: Main Draw Singles: Ad scoring. Best of 3 sets with a match tiebreak in lieu of 3rd set.
Consolation Singles: No-ad scoring. Best of 3 SHORT sets with a 7-point tiebreaker in lieu of the 3rd set for the consolation draw (3-all, competitors play two more games. If 4-all, a 7-point tiebreak is played.) Doubles: No-ad scoring. 8-game pro set
Checking In: Please remind your player that they are responsible for checking in prior to each match start time. When they check in for their matches they are assumed to be ready for play (i.e. water jugs filled, already gone to the restroom, shoes tied, etc). When your player checks in, they need to be prepared to give me their name, their division, and a good contact phone number in case I need to reach you during the tournament. Timely checkins will help me keep the tournament running on time.
Sportsmanship: USTA Oklahoma gives sportsmanship awards at each tournament. Players, parents and coaches are all encouraged to nominate players that demonstrate good sportsmanship. These nominations will be due to me by 3 pm on Sunday.
Practice Courts: Oak Tree has 6 outdoor courts that are available for warm-up during the weekend (weather permitting). The facility will open at 7:30 am on Saturday and 7 am on Sunday. You are welcome to jump on an indoor court to warm-up prior to matches beginning. Players are expected to share these courts. No indoor courts will be available once matches start each day.
Facility: We are excited to host you at Oak Tree Country Club. While here for the tournament, please feel free to use the Sports Center facilities and the restaurant at the main club as our guest. Any purchases you make must be paid for with a credit or debit card. Oak Tree is private club with member accounts and is not equipped to handle cash. You may let the guard at the guard gate know that you are here for the USTA tournament. The phone number to the pro shop is 405-341-3978. The address is 700 Country Club Dr., Edmond, OK 73025.
Last, but not least, the draws are online! If you have any questions about the tournament, don't hesitate to email me at lisa.m.minihan@gmail.com.
