Notes
Information on the tournament
The National Open Hard Court Championships is a great
tournament for all competitive players. Former Champion Jack Sock
won the Men's Open Singles in 2010 and teamed with his brother Eric
to win the doubles in 2011, and soon thereafter his career took
off. 2017 Australian Open semifinalist CoCo Vandeweghe also played
in the National Open before witnessing a meteoric rise in her
ranking. Many serious juniors, high school, college players and
touring pros participate as well as local and out of state
competitive players, looking for some great matches and competitive
play to test their skills. There are no restrictions and you are
guaranteed two matches for each event you enter. The tournament has
a first match consolation format for all events.
Projected Schedule of Play
The Men's Open Singles play will begin on Monday, May
29 at 9:00 a.m., which is Memorial Day. The Women's Open Singles
usually begins on Wednesday. The Men's, Women's and Mixed Doubles
draws close at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 28. Men's Doubles usually
starts on Tuesday, with the Women's Doubles starting Thursday or
Friday. The Mixed Doubles usually starts on Wednesday. The actual
start date for all events depends on the size of the draws, yet
these estimations should help when making travel plans.
Practice courts
Courts for tournament players will be available on
Saturday and Sunday afternoon May 27/28 and before the start of
play each day. Please check in at the Reservation Desk to get a
court. Looking forward to another great tournament.
Prizes
Gold, silver and bronze balls are awarded to first
second and third place. There is a playoff for third and fourth
place. Prize money is awarded to all finalists in the main draw.
Looking forward to a great tournament!!!
Guest Lecture for Tournament Players
Prior to the start of the National Open, Dr. Robert
Soloway, who has a PhD from Emory University in Cognitive
Psychology, will be here at BTC giving two different talks to
interested players. He has trained children, and professional
players. Dr. Soloway is the author of "Tennis in the New Age" and
producer of the video, "Seeing the Ball." Conscious Tennis is a
training technique that teaches athletes to concentrate and watch
the ball. It results in greater consistency, more accuracy, and
less stress. The first lecture titled, "Play Better
Tomorrow," will be held at the BTC Clubhouse on Sunday, May 28
at 3:00 p.m. The follow up lecture titled, "Intention, Attention
and Tension," will be held in the Clubhouse also on Thursday,
June 1 at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Soloway's talks are fun, fascinating and
helpful to players of all levels.
